You are going to be placed on a desert island, you have a choice of one Superhero Move to take and watch. Which would you choose? You can give your reasons if you wish.

Mine would be Wonder Woman. Simply superb.

    I assume you mean movie.

    Avengers endgame, probably. Logan maybe.

      Typo Corrected.

Out of those 2, I would choose Endgame as it's much longer and could be re-watched without becoming too boring as the spectacle is there to feast the eyes on.

    Ironman!

Although l may watch the Blob?

I hear they are doing a remake, (not really) showing which planet the blob came from, why his parents put him in an asteroid, why the other blobs at school called him blobby blob, and why he hates being at the end of a stick, and raids theatres, goes after women with glasses and sweaters, etc.

Mary Poppins or Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. Both have real super powers unlike Batman, who's just a rich vigilante with a sore throat.

    None.

If you're being placed on a desert island it's obviously as a punishment and being forced to take a superhero movie with you to watch constantly is just rubbing salt into the wounds. It may also constitute a breach of basic human rights.

Also, how would you watch a movie on a desert island which by its very definition wouldn't have electricity in the first place? If it does have electricity then it's a tropical tourist resort where you'd find far better ways of spending your time than watching any movie, let alone a superhero movie.

There's no reason why a desert island would be less likely to have electricity than any other island. Now, a deserted island is a different matter.

In that case they've probably got some sort of cinema. TV as well. You might also be able to get Netflix, or at least YouTube. Why would you be forced to take a movie with you and only be allowed to watch that?

Let's put things in perspective shall we.

At the time your OP was made it was the middle of a Saturday when you were able to do anything you wanted (within the boundaries of the law), and the #1 thing on your mind was contemplating which superhero movie other people would take with them onto a desert/deserted/dessert island.

Anyway, let's pretend that it wasn't a stupid premise for a question, there are more points of clarification needed.

            Why specifically a superhero movie?

            Why not a comedy?

            Why not a western?

            Why not a documentary?

Why not a boxed set of a classic TV show? That'd certainly waste, erm, I mean take up more time on this mythical desert/deserted/dessert island you've been put on.

Then again why a movie at all? Why not a book? Why not a mix tape of your favourite Budgie* tracks?

All of these are just as valid a set of questions as which superhero movie you'd take on your sojourn.

Yet, on a Saturday afternoon with the world at your feet, you felt a burning need to ask "Which superhero movie you'd take with you onto a desert/deserted/dessert island?"

Your life hasn't turned out the way you planned it, has it?

(* I threw the Budgie reference in specifically for Dan Riffle who I know devotes his even sadder and more pathetic than your's life to reading my every post, especially as we are drawing close to his favourite time of the year - ie awards season.)

It's a hypothetical question. Of course you would have a way of watching it. Instead of just trying to nit pick the question or make up silly fictitious scenarios about why you are placed there, why can't you just answer it? You should go into politics.

Well you obviously don't want too. The suggestion of being put on a desert island was merely to reinforce the idea that once you had made your choice, there could be no going back. You were cut off from getting any more super hero movies.

Incidentally, over the last couple of months I watched on Stan just about all of the Marvel movies before they were transferred to Disney's streaming service, with the exception of Antman, The Hulk and Spiderman because I have my limits.

The pick of the bunch are the Deadpool movies because they actively poke fun at the themselves. Indeed, I can't think of a genre that is more ripe for having the piss taken out of it than the superhero genre.

Next would be the Guardians Of The Galaxy films because they too don't take themselves too seriously.

Of the "serious" movies, the pick is Captain America: The Winter Soldier mainly because it's closer to being a Bond film than a superhero film.

Wonder Woman almost made it to the top of the pile however it was let down at the end by some decidedly cheesie SFX. For such a big budget film I would've though that they could've spent a bit more on them.

With films in this genre, and indeed sc-fi, fantasy, horror and even straight action, it's important for the story to progress at such a clip that you don't notice how utterly implausible they are. The first Die Hard and the first two Bourne films are prime examples of this. They keep the pace at a level that stops you noticing how far fetched they are. With Wonder Woman I was happily along for the ride right up until the big SFX climax, and then was distracted by the low budget nature of them and that took me out of the moment. Once that happens with a film, there isn't any turning back.

Oh yeah. Black Panther was pretty good too.

Worst one of the lot is easily Thor: Ragnarok. It features a scene where the armies of Ragnarok are heading off to battle. It shows flying ships armed with laser type weapons. OK, nothing wrong with that. It then cuts to a scene showing ground troops marching off to battle armed with, (wait for it).....

    .... swords. SMFH.

Anyway, I guess my whole problem with superhero and Star Wars/Trek is that they're less movies and more two hour adverts for the inevitable toys that go with them. There's a reason why George Lucas sold the Star Wars film rights to Disney, but kept the rights for the toys. He knows where the real money is.

Years ago, one of the 1950s Superman series costumes was on E-Bay. It was complete except for the boots. It was a minimum bid of (I think) $3,000.

I almost bought it. My wife talked me out of it with reason and thought.

If I would be placed on a deserted island, I would choose the movie How To Survive A Deserted Island.

    What?

That can be considered a superhero movie too!

Ok, for the sake of argument.

The Dark Knight is my favorite. 10/10 epic movie, actors, suspense, story etc. It was a tough decision thought with all the Marvel movies.
