As the title states, are forums a dying breed? I feel like I've seen less successful forums pop up. I mean sure we have some that are established like this but, I find that new forums struggle. What are some struggle points with forums?

A simple search would of pulled up this recent thread - https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...marketing.html and you may get some answers from the posts in it.

Good question. I believe that professional forums are capable of a normal existence. Everything else, like chatting forums, has been replaced by social networks. It is much more convenient when everything is at hand + high speed responses. Forums only for old school)

I wouldn't say forums are "dying", but rather becoming increasingly fragmented into specialized interests, regions, professions, etc. For example, I've noticed over the years that a number of once very active Warrior members have split off into their own forum startups.

There are also "groups" of every imaginable segment on Facebook and other social networks. Far from dying out, I think they are more like perhaps evolving. Some marketers get valuable indirect traction from search engines by leveraging their forum posts along with social media.

They are not dying, but the activity on them is much more diluted. With so many platforms where people can gather around and talk, forums remain a choice for a select few.

If you define success as getting lots of traffic from people pretty much asking the same questions, Google's updates have made quick work of forums that (used to) dominate that kind of traffic. These can be called forum type 1.

Google has pretty much redirected the flow of forum type 1 queries to Q+A platforms. Those are very tricky to monetize (from an affiliate's or guru's perspective)

Forums are still around but the ones that are actually growing and making money are not very newbie- or basic info-seeker friendly. Not exactly fertile ground for coaching /guru or $7 guides type sales

Forums in the classical sense no longer have such popularity as before.

Social networks and instant messengers are actively occupying the market. This is normal - progress.

When choosing a forum and social networks, I 100% choose the second.

The exception is the old and already well-known forums among the audience.

I don't believe forums are dying, what they are doing is evolving from the traditional structures to hybrid feature packed state of the art platforms.

I was wondering that myself. This is the only forum I've belonged to since 2009

I find forums very useful, most of the time I look for the answers to computer problems I find them in specialist forums and user groups.

I recently purchased a new computer and monitor of a different brand. The monitor would lose signal about once a day. I had to re-plug in the HDMI cable. I have solved that by trying some recommendations from these forums. I also had a sound buzzing problem where while watching a You-Tube video, periodically the sound would buzz for a few seconds. I think I have found the solution to that too.

So, no, they are not dying. The only thing you have to look out for is that you are not looking at an answer posted several years back.
