I have used the built in free Windows Defender now for several years. No problems. Using Google Chrome also is great at stopping malicious web page popups by default.

The College where I work also uses Windows Defender.

I run with Windows defender on most of my computers and NONE at all on my more sensitive ones - but these tend not to be windows OS.

When it comes to computer security less is more. If you look at the whole idea from a programmers prospective... You would include checks to determine what protection is being used.. and then apply the needed work arounds to get beyond the present security.

If you know anything about programming you will understand the most basic of commands in this type of process would be "If - Then - Else" IF this is present do this, and THEN do that. So a series of IF IF IF but 99% of all virus programming that I have ever seen does not have an "IF" for If there is no protection THEN do X.

take the love virus for example... no virus protection and the file just sits quietly on your hard drive.

    So yeah Less is More

Just make sure it washes its hands and stays 6 feet away from your monitor and printer.
