Hey guys,

What car you own right now and use on a regular basis and what car is your dream car and planning to buy in the near future?

I am not talking about Bugatti or Ferrari which cost 1M+++ ,but I am talking about the regular car which for some of us would be affordable, like $20+ car.

I will start first.

I am driving C class Mercedes, 2015 year. It's too small and planning to buy a Volvo XC90 2017.

What about you?

In 2000 my son bought a top of the line new Isuzu Trooper...in 2003 I bought it from him. LOVED that car - and drove it with only minor repairs - until last summer. My mechanic said 'it's time' and i knew he was right.

Called a dealer I know - told him in general what i was looking for...a month later he called to say 'got it'. Three hours later I bought a 2017 Honda CRV EX with leather. Paid cash. I like this car but still miss my big trooper - gave it to a young friend who was newly married and needed wheels....it's still going.

I considered something bigger/fancier or sportier but in the end stuck with my favorite kind of car....paid for. It's big enough for me, the dog and a saddle...that'll work.

I drive an Isuzu too! Isuzu Crosswind. Manual, and I love it. Very frugal, very practical, and doesn't give me headaches. Only major repairs were replacing the fuel pump, and fixing a leak on its airconditioning. On a fine day, it gives me about 40 mpg.

Dream car? I'd say Lancer Evo.

Love the Isuzu Trooper love shown above. I had a 1990 Trooper that I drove for a long time in our mobile auto detailing business. Even took the seats out of the back and installed a water tank at a point. That thing just kept going and going. Eventually I sold it to my brother to help him out. I bought it from a guy that owned nothing but Troopers. I miss it.

I drive a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. Picked it up last year because I wanted a 5 speed and it is basically the same thing as a Toyota Matrix. A friend of mine has over 300,000 miles on his and has a second and I buy my cars for reliability over everything. So far so good. I also have a 2000 Ford Focus wagon and a 2001 Mazda MPV that my wife uses in her cleaning business. I don't pay more than $3500 for my cars, get them with relatively low miles, and drive them until the wheels fall off, usually many many years. I get the most for my money.

    Greetings All,

Still driving the Bimmer, but will be trading it in on a BMW Z4 in the spring of 2021, should I live that long. Six years old and just turned 30k miles. Garage kept and detailed every 6 months. Looks like she just rolled off the showroom floor. If I can't put the top down, I don't drive it. :-)

Hoping that everyone here is doing well and staying safe. Honey and I are great.

    Cheers,

    Big Frank

Good to see you still kicking Frank. I am working from home as the college has virtually nothing open and all classes online.

Now I'm wondering if you indulged yourself in the new Apple designer Cheese-grater, not to mention the sumptuous 32" 5k monitor with the 1k stand?

Greetings Sir. Yes, unbelievably, although I have taken a licking, I keep on tickin'. That said, the old implantable device is about due for new batteries, so they'll probably swap-out the latest and greatest unit currently available. I'm sure this will be the last one. lol

I've been working from home for 25 years at a level I would describe as basically, 'sheltering in place,' for the entire time. You might find it hard to go back to the office. Let's be honest. Working in your tighty-whities is kinda hard to beat and it's nice not to have anyone almost catch you taking a PornHub break.

No. I'll admit to being tempted, but I just can't in good conscience make a $25k investment, which is the least expensive configuration I would be comfortable purchasing. Honestly, the most intensive work I do these days is making videos and it's not like I'm using Final Cut Pro X. Believe it or not, my old Mac Pro trash can, which I did max-out when I bought it along with the 2 - 31" Apple Cinema displays is working just fine and I love the compact size, lack of both heat and fan noise. I have loved this machine from day one. I did recently upgrade the video cards to the top offering. The only other thing I did was purchase a 5TB external drive to free up space in all my partitions as I was storing a lot of infrequently used video assets. I also picked up a really sweet Rodecaster Pro and a new Shure SM7B mic with a Cloudlifter preamp. Sweeeeet!!! :-)

I'm going to wait and see what the new iMac Pro's have to offer in a couple of months, as long as I can still use my dual monitor set-up and just use it for the CPU. I just switched to Catalina OS a couple of days, ago because I was afraid that my machine might not take to it well. Honestly, it seems to have put a little vim into the old girl. She's running like a top. lol

The only thing I might do is pick up that monitor and stand. That would be a nice upgrade, but beyond that, no - I'll save my money for that BMW Z4 in the spring. I have wanted that for years and I should have bought it when I bought the one I have. I just couldn't find a shoehorn large enough to get me into that thing. I'm currently on what I call the Z4 diet, so by spring, I should be good to go. The Motor Trend review on PBS, or was it Car and Driver, was phenomenal. I wish I had never seen it. lol

Cool looking car, I mean really cool.

Stuck at home since after the week of Spring Break, I went to get in my Prius. The car battery had died, not the big one, the one under the hood, Generic ones die after 3 years. I am still under a deal with Toyota to get it replaced but since the food store is across the street and I was getting fearful of interacting with people, being 63 and all, I have just let it sit there. Perhaps foolish.

So, because of this, I was not spending much money aside from my rent and bills, a few months went by, and I was getting bored, so I decided to splash out on some new tech, not having updated in 6 years.

I bought a new Dell PC, XPS, an i9 processor with 8 cores, 10th generation. 64gigs of ram, a one terrabyte SSD and a 2 terrabyte conventional drive and a 4 gig graphics card. Came to about 2.5k in money. I also got an Asus 32" 4k monitor. Having gotten the bug I bought a Dell i7, generation 10 laptop with 16 gigs of ram, a 17.3" touch screen with full 1080p HD, 512 gig SSD, with a 2 gig graphics card, it has a backlit keyboard and the screen folds all the way back to make a large heavy tablet, all metal chassis. I am completely sold on Dell

To finish up the purchasing I got 2 Amazon Echo's, a pair of Bose speakers for the computer and a Navidia Shield (a sort of super souped up Firestick)

I gave my older PC to a friend who had an old PC that was running really slow, cloned her hard drive to an SSD and put it in mine, runs like hot snot now. Feels good to do someone a favor, especially because she uses one in her business.

Well, that's me done for the rest of my life with tech (who knows :-)) I need boring stuff now like some more kitchen utensils, new clothes, some furniture, pics for my bland walls etc. LOL

Sounds like you were right to just enhance what you had. As long as it serves and aint broke etc. I admit, What I bought for me was a bit of an indulgence, self treat. :-)

Wow! that certainly is a lot of cool stuff. Good luck with all of it. I hear you, about 'Dell.' What can I say? Some people swear by Miracle Whip. Me? I'm a life-long Hellman's guy. :-)

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I have done nothing for the last few days except take nice, long rides and nice, long swims. Also, don't know if you're aware but my 'no-kill' animal sanctuary received its 501(c)3 IRS status, so a lot of activity going on there. I recently picked up a pride of beautiful peacocks to add to our almost 150 critters currently being housed. They are amazing. I spend a lot of time just watching them stroll around. lol I'm thinking of starting to breed them. I'm looking for exotic strains. These were raised from chicks which was a whole lot of fun. They're not mature, yet.

I took a look at your Peacocks, rather beautiful. What other animals do you have in your menagerie?

I would say I now have the Hellman's of the PC Ecosystem. For the first time. :-)

Noticeably faster and seamless usage, the speed of the laptop was a real revelation.

Surprisingly, I want to extol the virtues of the Navida Shield Pro. If you have a Firestick or Roku, this device is like the top line Mac Pro by comparison, very responsive and fast and has a feature that is worth the 200 dollar price point alone.

              Upscaling and sharpening.

I, and I expect you have a 4k TV and thinking wow, what a great picture. The fact is, the amount of content out there in 4k is still relatively low. Nearly all TV is broadcast at 720 or 1080p, basic HD. Then the TV being 4k attempts to upscale the picture to something approaching 4k. The results, while better than the original still are nothing like true 4k.

The Shield has an intellegent IQ feature. Not only does it upscale the picture to something that is almost indistinguishable from true 4k, it also sharpens the picture revealing more detail, very noticeable. So, as long as you are watching stuff through the shield, it's like you have upgraded your TV for little money, as long as it is 720 or 1080p content you are watching, it is like converting all to 4k.

So, if you are using a cable box for example it would be well worth getting the providers App to put on the Shield instead and view it streaming via that. Then you will get the full benefits. Stuff like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Pluto tv etc all enhanced. if you are using them.

The Shield for some reason does not come with a connecting HDMI cable. I plugged in an old one I had and had some teething problems with it. I quickly learned that you have to get an updated cable that is upgraded and compatible to get all available benefits your TV or modern TV'S ARE capable of. This is what I purchased (non affiliate link) for $14.99

              https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So if you want the best picture ever, the Shield would be a worthy investment for 4k TV owners.

I sound like an advert don't I, but I'm just pleased with something I purchased and recommending it. :-)

I think it was 2 Christmas purchases back. I'll be shopping this Christmas if I'm still breathing but I want a 95" or a 100" since it will be the last one.

It's a very peaceful, inspiring, and special addition to my life. It has recharged my batteries. Having 60 acres to roam around on, with horse trails is nice, too. Not bad for $1 a year. I can still sell. lol

60 Acres, wow, Shhhhhh, don't tell Claude or he will park his Trailer Home on it.

Sounds like you definitely have 4k

I did rather an intense foray into high quality 4k short throw laser projectors just to see what was available. (they project from about 10 -18 inches from the wall so you cant move in front of them and block the picture.) Very expensive and of course you need a good, dedicated screen to get the best out of them.Never as bright as a good quality TV though but you could go up to 150" in screen size.

I purchased a 55" Samsung 4k Q70R a while back which has the extra colors that Quantum Dot technology is good at.. Excellent picture but the Shield Device improved it.

Difficult to fathom what to suggest for a big screen purchase. 8k will definitely be the choice, especially if your getting a huge screen. Aside from that, the technology comes on in leaps and bounds so best to get whatever's good at the time of purchase within your price range.

                                Clever...for you.

A couple of days ago, when Cheryl and I got back from the store, she said "Did you ever notice that garden gnome in front of the bathroom window before?"

I buried it in the back yard, three feet deep. It took you two days to dig yourself out.

Keep off my lawn. Next time, it will be a deeper hole.

Greetings. Yeah, still truckin'. It's very hard for me to believe considering the shape I'm in. I don't understand how an organism can take decades of abuse and just keep going. I even feel like there's nothing wrong with me. Maybe that's the secret. I don't know.

We are thinking of buying a new Chevy Sonic.

I'm not joking. It may be the last car we ever buy.

My dream car? One that doesn't break down....one that doesn't get stolen.

I carry my cash with the ones on the outside of the folded bills.

    I'm cheap.

Or, as my wife calls it....cheap.

Using Google Earth, I have zoomed in on your home location (street view) and seen your Model T Ford parked in the driveway. You will be amazed at the technology and comfort a Chevy Sonic will give you, and no more changing gramophone records under the hood when you want to listen to music. They will have this new fangled thing called stereo radio.

Would that be the "Red Hot" or "Kinetic Blue Metallic" by the way, the obvious choices for such a dynamic person like yourself?

We love our manual Mini Cooper, but I've been trying to talk myself into this lately.

Not exactly family friendly (or a car, for that matter), but would make commuting to and from the city ridiculously fun

    I drive a 2019 Peugeot 208.
The variant with a panorama roof. It's amazing.

Now for my dream car, honestly, a Ferrari F40. My very first radio car was one such, so I was sold. I know it's not happening.

I have a 2006 convertible Jaguar XK8 - the last year before the model changed far too many things I loved about the car, including losing the burl wood dash. I also have a 2018 Hyundai Sonata that I might be trading for the new Lincoln Corsair SUV, my first SUV. I don't really have a dream car right now, other than something lotto crazy like a Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV.

Legit question: how often is your Jag in the shop and how bad are the repair costs?

I almost pulled the trigger on an older Jaguar last year, but got cold feet.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

You were going to put down an older Jaguar, but your feet were cold? Were you at a mountain top full of snow running after Jags in your bearfeet?

A 2003 Dodge Dakota truck is my go to vehicle.
Two days ago my blinker light speed increased and yesterday, my console brake light came on. Just came back from a 30 minute trip to Auto Zone where the cost to have everything fixed was $2.74.
