using an air fryer .. is how i make fries at home .. but more steak fries than thin cut french fries ..little oil on the fries a few seasoning depending on my mood .. and about 15 - 20 minutes cooking time ..

i use a pressure cooker to cook potatoes to ..not to make fries but they come out fully cooked and nice and fluffy to cut up woth a fork ..great to season before cooking ..i do have to wrap any meat i want to cook at the same time in tinfoil with it's own seasoing .. but .. both an air fry and an electric pressure cooker make cooking real easy and low clean up

Fries made at home, from potatoes you say, never thought of that.

I am a dab hand at whipping out a bag of them from the freezer and putting some into the oven for 20 minutes. Works out pretty well.

I like my homemade fries made from fresh homegrown potatoes. Takes longer, but it's well worth the wait.

I can only have homemade fries from homegrown potatoes once every 3-4 months because that's how long it takes to grow a potato. I haven't had any this year because with all the rain it filled up my bucket by the front porch and ruined it. Then I tried again just a couple of months ago but my cousin slipped off my porch steps and fell right onto the potato. Now I have to start all over with another bucket because it got squished and crumbled from the rust.

Have you tried those grow bags that are designed
just for growing potatoes? I have not tried them yet
but I plan to start growing a variety of things if this
          pandemic continues.

I could never find a grow bag that fits on my porch. Also, I get maybe two hours at most of direct sunshine between the skyscrapers. The ray of light is barely enough for one potato. And this year was a particularly bad year for my potato crop because of all the rain and my stupid cousin who smashed the bucket. Hopefully I can find a sturdy bucket for my potato and have some homemade fries again before the end of summer.

Now I am worried about you. Please let me know if you need help
and send me your coordinates. I will dispatch a rescue team. Or
              send you some french fries.

Homegrown potato's don't taste like most crap you can buy at the store so imo the effort is always worth it.

A 10 dollar timer plus a 20 or 30 dollar led spectrum light will cut your growth time in half...less if you spend more.

IMHO "potato" grow bags are a gimmick and not worth any price.

ANY container will do, as long as it can drain.

However, ALL cloth-like containers will produce a faster harvest, with a larger yield,
          without doing anything different.

I grow a large variety of potatoes and the best thing you can do hands down
for yield and speed (other than light) is to amend your medium 50-50 with
worm castings AND create a 2 - 3'' deep layer to place your chits on.

If you do that, you won't need any additional fertilizer, including side dressing after blossom - IF the variety you choose blossoms.

Regardless of the variety, you will have fingerlings, new and golf ball size potatoes within 45 days or less.
With a controlled light source, maybe faster. I'm in FL I don't need led's, so I don't really know the speed.
I actually get too much sun.

If you want to treat yourself, grow some Yukon Gold and, then make some fries.

I make fries from regular potatoes or sweet potatoes in the oven.

    - Toss them in a little bit of olive oil & put them on a baking sheet (use tinfoil for easy clean-up)

    - add garlic, salt & pepper or sometimes creole seasoning

    - bake them at 425-450 degrees for maybe 35-45 minutes depending on thickness. Flipping them once is a good idea so they don't stick or get to brown on one side.

Sometime I just slice the potatoes 1/4 to 1/3 inches thick or in thicker wedges (good for sweet potatoes) & place them on a wire rack so they get evenly browned.

    Now I'm hungry...

I prefer making fries at home as I am very peculiar when it comes to making fries. They are more like my guilty pleasure and my go to food.

Wash, cut, freeze, fry. Salt to taste.

The key is freezing it, or at the very min soaking them in super cold / almost frozen water
after slicing them to size for 30 minutes to an hour.

That's what makes them crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.

If you want to try something different that sounds worse then the taste try adding vinegar. A vendor out of Pennsylvania called Dallas French Fries use to keep a container of vinegar out. Pump some on the fries and they are really tasty.

In the UK, it is an absolute requirement to have malt vinegar on your fries along with salt. We are talking about proper chips here of course, not the McDonalds type. I seek it out at the supermarket.

lol, I had to look up what malt vinegar was...imagine my surprise when I
see ads for the same type of vinegar I use to clean my coffee maker, and make oil vinaigrette.
