Help Choosing a Monitor, Please

Greetings,

I'm starting my Christmas shopping for that very special someone in my life, me!

I am looking to replace my current monitor setup of 2 - 30" Apple HD Cinema displays. I love them, but the footprint is a bit much.

I am looking at stacking 2 of these, from Dell: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell...or-accessories, like in the picture. I'm assuming there is a special mounting stand to achieve this.

Not sure about a curved monitor. Also not sure if the text will be too tiny to read without putting my nose against the screen. I know I can change the resolution, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of having maximum real estate. My current monitors display at 2560x1600.

I'm not a techie, so reading the specs on the Dells does nothing more than give me a headache.

If anyone can offer any real-world experience, that would be helpful. If not, just the ability to interpret the specs would be most helpful.

Note: I play no games. I do normal everyday computer tasks but I do make a lot of videos.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can lend.

Cheers,

Big Frank

P.S. Hoping that everyone is well and staying safe. :-)

    Hi Frank,

Hope to find you and Honey doing well.

My experience with curved monitors (8 hours a day) is "I can take em or leave em." In a production area with a minimum of 200 agents per shift - no one complained.

The same experience with two monitors side by side is also the same.

The stacked configuration in an office environment required a few IT techs to set it all up properly. A home desktop environment with only two monitors obviously requires a proper setup and I would recommend contacting Dell prior to purchase for "home installation".

Specs wise, Mark is more up to date than me, so I suggest a word with him.

    Hey there, how are you...

I bought this one in May, an Asus 32" (flatscreen non glossy), 4k (2840x2160), Freesync, Display Port, HDR10 , just under $400.00. Very pleased with it, easy on the eye and am using it 5 days a week, working from home.

    Not a affiliate link....

The stand was already connected out of the box, so don't know much about stacking etc. I checked the specs, it does not have Vesa sockets for wall mounting or connecting to some sort of pillar using Vesa that would allow for two monitors, one above the other. so it would just sit on it's existing stand. Perhaps your existing one has that capability so you could mount it above this.

Size-wise, about what I have, now. I'm looking to make a massive change in how I work. I'm not an incrementalist. "Go big or go home!" :-)

      Thank you, though.

I had not clicked on your link for some reason. Yep, that's really big. Being curved you will find advantageous given the size. You would probably have to pay a lot more to get true 4k in that size. so the resolution is ok. I like Dell stuff across the board, I would say go for it.

Have you got the new updated Mac Pro to plug it into.

Being a Mac user, I have never owned any of their product.

No, still can't justify that for what I do. Haven't ruled it out, but I hate buying entry-level stuff. The configuration I would buy without reservation is $25k. We'll see if I make to Christmas 2021.

I still have my sights on that Z4. Maybe next spring.

Just had my 3rd year anniversary on the current machine. Put on 6,000 miles in 3 years. Still looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, and getting its summer's end detaining next week before I mothball her for the winter. Sad! lol

I would give Dell a call on the phone during the week . Tell them exactly what you told us here.

Dell has excellent phone service when you are going to buy one of there products. At one time they out source there tech support over seas. But after numerous complaints it seems like they got the message and bought it back to the USA.

Once you buy from Dell. Every month you will get a new brochure with all new cool products to purchase.

Currently typing this response on a Dell desktop.

I wondered why the quality of the writing was so good.
