Your problem is similar to trying to fix a car that has a old flat head that died
You decided to jam a V-8 into it to make it run. Because you don't like the modern technology. Simple solution is to retire the old clunker.

Nah, 7Pro is still purring away, (next month 4 years, zero updates, lol).

But not the virtual XP, which as everyone is saying, may be past being able to log on?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is a Photoshop issue for Shane. Don't bother telling him to upgrade Windows because he's not willing to upgrade his version of Photoshop.

Shane, I did a cursory review and couldn't find anything to help you. You should probably go directly to MS with your issue.

Technology and software has finally caught up with you, some software and services have finally become redundant. You had a good run. Probably no fix for this. Adobe Cloud works out at $5.25 per week. If your making a living using Photoshop then this is more than worth it. A paltry expense. Be realistic, move on. All you have to do is raise your prices a fraction to cover this expense.

As far as I can see you can still get a free upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 to start your journey, Microsoft just don't advertise it anymore. https://www.theverge.com/2020/1/14/2...s-7-10-free-os (remember to download the tool first, scroll down a bit on the Microsoft site when you hit the link) Always backup your files first though, then you can do a clean slate or keep your files. I updated from 8.1 to 10 a few years back on my 2014 machine and it kept my files.

Just checked Adobe and in AU, it is about $74 a month, (that is for CS/Ill only).

I have saved myself $2800 to date by not doing the cloud Adobe thing, which is enough to buy a decent Apple Laptop if necessary.

And l have been online most of the day and night during that time, or about 10 hours per day, (since l tend to leave it on when out).

Norton is more than enough, to protect and squawking tech-heads giving sermons is just that.

I make a correction: I have looked up the price for just Photoshop in Australia. It is $29.99 per month in Australian dollars. I have not looked up the current exchange rate compared to US and I don't know if you need anything else? Ok, so that's $7.50 Australian dollars per week.

If you can't afford to add that as a business expense per week then you need to change your profession. Perhaps omit one of those trips to the mall to have your expensive cake and coffee per week and cancel that rag you read and look at the news online or on tv, like I do. (I know, sacrilege)

No Mark, same site l found, and it is in US prices, (button down the bottom of the page for countries, doesn't affect prices, trust me l tried it once, CS2 cloud 1 week trial).

So $29 is about $10AU more or about $40 per month, and since l need Illustrator for Vectors on occasion, that needs to be doubled, or $80 per month.

Which means l have saved almost 4k, if prices stayed the same over that time frame, (they where more expensive years ago, when the cloud idea got stuck in their claws).

If you can't afford to add that as a business expense per week then you need to change your profession. Perhaps omit one of those trips to the mall to have your expensive cake and coffee per week and cancel that rag you read and look at the news online or on tv, like I do. (I know, sacrilege)

Ok, worst case scenario, you need to spend $20.00 a week to pay for the tools to run your business as you say you need illustrator as well. What's your point? If you cant afford even that as a business expense then you should quit doing what you are doing and go out and find a job. It's just not financially viable to continue. But, really, talk about overheads being low. I would love to be able to run a business that has such a low outlay.

If you can't find a solution you will be doing this anyway.

You remind me of Steve Wagenheim who asked for help and just continued to winge and moan because he was not making any money, or enough money with his music. I listened to his music, it was dated and dire. He never changed, proceeding to do the same stuff and ways of promoting it, over and over again, expecting it to work and refusing to listen to advice, you appear to be in that same rut, the world changes and your not. I did the same things online for years and made hardly a dime until I broke free, tried something different and actually made some money.

At least your products and skills look reasonable in comparison, I will give you that.

I worked for a Community College for nearly 16 years in financials, just retired. The salary was not fantastic compared to private businesses but the vacation time was 6 weeks a year, unprecedented in the US. I retired with full benefits. One of them is that you get to keep your .EDU email address which meant I would have unlimited access to both Office 365 and the entire Adobe Cloud Suite for free, for life.

They do that for people who work as or for Educators over here. The lower salary was the sacrifice but as you can see, it had it's perks.

As far as watching world news is concerned, I'm sure the rag you read has it's biases. I look at the BBC website as it is non profit and reasonably neutral.

If saving money is your top priority - then don't upgrade anything - but you will increasing have to deal with systems not working efficiently.

Have you ever considered getting a XP hard disc ? Or a repair kit so you don't have to play around with Virtual XP.

Here is a link to the Antique shop ( I mean Ebay ) they are still available. Ebay handles international now so you won't have to worry about delivery.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/windows-xp-.../323921646784? FYI that is not the only seller of it.

If not spend the time learning Apples operating system. Order a new computer and be done with it.

That sort of thing is a possible solution. Have an external USB HD with a full install of XP on it or somehow create a partition on your existing Hard Drive and have a dual boot setup. However, a bit technical to achieve I would think. You would need to install the old Adobe suite to the XP installation too. Not impossible, but would it work with the current internet card? Always a gamble. This would be for a Laptop, not a PC.

He can also just clone his existing set up and then run the clone in VmWare or other virtual emulator.

If you do that shane, then you can have a nice new computer and it will run win 10 & XP at the same time.

Ok, looks like l have to say it again, l am not using adobe suite for my main business, (flyers brings in a trickle, but l haven't done one of those for some time) but did use it for my forum, (and probably saved myself between $500 - $1000).

But yet again it isn't key to my business dealings but sure helps.

Sure the Newspaper l read isn't perfect and stupidity can creep into it as most sources can, but if the BBC is anything like our ABC, then l would find a more sane source of information.

The ABC was, and is modelled on the BBC and while far from perfect especially since the Board of Directors and a lot of the executive team are political appointees from the party that is opposed to the whole idea of a public broadcaster.

Also coincidentally (not), this so-called left wing bias at the ABC that Astroboy alludes to (describing them as a cult) as being common knowledge, is no such thing. The ABC is by far the most trusted news source in the country, and the only references you'll find to any "left wing bias" are 2 independent inquiries into this alleged bias by the incumbent conservative government, The first one came back with a conclusion that there was no bias at all, They didn't like that one so commissioned another inquiry to uncover the "truth". They tilted the odds in their favour a bit (lot) by stacking the inquiry panel with their "mates". They too came back with a "no bias at all" conclusion

The only other reference(s) to this alleged left wing bias you'll find are opinion pieces penned by people employed by Rupert Murdoch. And there are tons of those, There isn't a day goes past that there isn't at least one article across the Murdoch stable of mastheads.ranting about the "cultural Marxists at the ABC". It is as predictable as it is pathetic. And all because the news they get from ABC is trusted by most Australians, whereas anything and everything Murdoch publishes, isn't trusted. At all.

Or to be more specific the ABC, is biased as hell, even though they are legally obligated to be balanced.

They should be dragged before the courts, but apart from funding cut threats they keep dodging a bullet.

Most Australians know it, and even Ita Buttrose, trying to paint a warm and intelligent face on it, doesn't help.

Bring up one of their pet delusions, (it isn't flat earth religion, but it may as well be) on Q&A, and you will see time and time again, a panel of at least 8 people, trashing the one person, with his bag of facts, trying to say what is true.

And the audience, lol, they may as well be witches carrying forks.

As l said most Australans know the ABC is one sided, and is tetering on breaking its contractual agreement of balanced reporting.

Some of their key beliefs are valid, but most are just nuts, and becoming more nuts by the year, as things just don't do what they want them to do.

And the funny thing is a 12 year old kid could go online and prove whether their key beliefs are actually real or not, but they would never do that, blindly following their trusted sources online is enough!
