Have you thought of collecting stamps? Less noise...except for that slurping sound. But maybe the neighbors will think you just have a dog.


By the way, the drum set looks pretty cool. If I heard you play the drums, my first words would be "Not quite my tempo".

Aside from a quick bash on some electronic drums in a Best Buy store of all places about 10 years ago I have not played for 40 years. It was good to know back then that although rusty, I had not lost the ability.

These drums and the accessories were incredibly inexpensive for what you get. I now think they are a couple of years old. Boxed as new but old stock. Many of these kits are not supplied with a beater or sticks, and a stool, forget it. So a good little bundle.

Your right, five years ago I would have jumped on such a project the same day. Despite walks and vitamins I am physically a little weaker than I used to be and not so driven, a product of age and circumstance. When I was married there was the odd project to do and mowing the lawn etc. Even getting up early to drive to work, now all gone. Even to get up early to sit at my computer at home and do most of the jobs I did at the office has gone.

The virus does not help it must be said, I would have been more active if it was not around. Playing safe takes it's toll.

It's good you live on a farm and an go horse riding and muck in as little or as much as you want. You have a little space to do it in too

We really love our subdivision. I would definitely call it our "forever" home. It has trees in the back ( which is a must for me) and we are close to everything. But I surely understand your perspective. It is nice to have a plot of land with acres to call your own and away from the hub- bub of things. I can see the allurement of that

My apartment is ok, 640 square feet, a little room for a washer/dryer, coat closet, a small living room, kitchen area, small dining area where I have my drums and computer, a reasonable sized bathroom and a bedroom with a walk in closet, even a little balcony. It is more than enough for one and larger than what you may typically get in Europe. You get used to it.

In fact, putting the drums in it makes it look bigger. People say that up to a point, you can put more stuff into a small place, pictures on the walls, mirrors and furniture, scatter rugs etc and it actually makes it look bigger. Aside from a couple of pictures I have bare walls so I am going to buy a load. I also am going to experiment with ambient lighting in the way of LED freestanding lamps which will give you different color settings and some light towers for either side of my computer.

Different zones, lighting and things of interest give the psychological illusion of a lager space. It is something I have learned since living here and now appreciate.

When I used to visit my parents place and home town in the UK, it seemed a small space and took a day or two to re-adjust to the closeness of everything and the size of the house, but you do and become used to it again.

It's a jungle, a concrete one unfortunately. But once I exit the gates, a short hop across a side road and I'm in a complex of shops and restaurants. So have a bakery, hairdressers, H&R block, Chinese Buffet, Subway, Waffle House, Taco Cabana, Garage and a few other places. The one annoying thing, a Kroger used to be there and now it's an empty facia, it moved across the busy main road and down into a dip so a bit of a walk and crossing the road walking is a bit precarious. There are a load of other new stores there as well.

So aside from the lack of green and the Kroger closing, it really is a convenient place to be.
