Think I found it!

The new Suicide Squad. Didn't think it could get worse than Justice League (Joss Whedon cut), but it did.

I watched it and thought it was pretty good.

It has a specific audience. It's an absurdist, hyper violent comic book movie.

It's one of those movies that a specific audience will enjoy and a general audience (of "Normals") will dislike intensely.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Added later; Actually, I didn't think at all about the characters, or if it's Marvel or DC. Almost none of these characters are ones I'm familiar with. But I'll say it was more fun than the first Suicide Squad.

I just thought it would be fun to watch, and it was..

I love a hyper violent absurdist comic book movie as much as the next guy! Deadpool was awesome, on point. This I didn't enjoy.

Random question, any idea why the title was the same as the first movie?

The first movie was Suicide Squad. This one is The Suicide Squad.

        Different directors.

There were only two parts I didn't like. When Savant killed the bird, and when the burned the birds later.

Any of these types of films that are too lighthearted, comical or contain swearing and crude jokes are not for me. I prefer my superhero's and stories to be more serious. (within the absurd framework of the genre that it is) It rather parodies the whole idea.

You would have had more fun seeing Free Guy. 86%. I had a gut feeling about that one. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/free_guy

The critics gave The Suicide Squad a 92% and audiences gave it an 85%.

This was directed by the same director as Guardians Of The Galaxy. Same sensibilities. A little less of the brilliant dialog.

I'm sure I'll enjoy Free Guy when it comes out.

    You guys are HILARIOUS.

The worst movie I ever saw was:

    A.I. Artificial Intelligence

OMG that movie was horrible. We went
to the theater to see it and I was sitting
there chomping on my popcorn hoping
that it would get better but it just kept
    on circling the drain.

I was so embarrassed because it was
my idea to see that movie after people
like Larry King said how great it was.

And my date was not impressed, he kept
giving me side-eye and shaking his head.

There are some other crummy ones but
that is the one that always comes to mind.

Although it wasn't fun, I really liked the movie.

I think we are confusing movies we don't like with movies that are bad.

      I don't enjoy at all;
      Romance movies.
      The Hallmark Channel.
TV shows and movies that are making a Woke point.
      Musicals (with very rare exceptions)
Movies where families are arguing all the time. A personal prejudice of mine.
      Dramas about relationships and families.
      Religious movies.

Just don't like them, but that doesn't mean they are bad movies. Some are excellent movies I just don't like.

To me, a typical bad movie is a science fiction or horror movie made on a $10,000 budget, made in a week, and by a terrible director.

Plan 9 From Outer Space comes to mind. These are bad movies. There were dozens of these terrible cheap movies made in the 50s.

I was watching Carnival of Souls a week ago. My wife said "Do you like this movie?"

I said "No. It's a terrible movie. But I have to stay till the end."

If you want to see a truly terrible movie, watch From Hell It Came, The Robot VS The Aztec Mummy, Cat Women Of The Moon.

And the single worst movie I have ever seen.....Robot Monster made in 1953. It has to be seen to be believed.

      Those are terrible movies.

I am not confused at all. I didn't like it because it was bad.

I am a TCM person, I can keep the TV on that channel all
day long, until I start wondering what's on the news.

Been watching a lot of Western Channel lately, it reminds
me of my Husband. Rest his soul. I never liked westerns,
but now it's, "oh he loved Lonesome Dove," while I sit there
watching Tommy Lee Jones schlepping Robert Duvall from
Montana back to Texas for five hours.

Anyway, enjoy those corny movies with your wife while
you can, I promise you might sorely miss that someday.

Same. Old Black and White movies are my favorite. TCM, The Discovery Channel, Science Channel, and History Channels are where I spend most of my TV time, and that's where most of the movies are shown that I record.

Don't I know it. I think about that every day. It's my only real fear.

When my wife watches The Hallmark Channel, I sit next to her and read. I hate that kind of sanitized movie...but that isn't the point. Sitting next to her for a quiet few hours makes pretty much anything tolerable.

Just like her, when I'm watching the Science fiction movies that I think are terrible......so bad I spend most of the time laughing at the screen. And she sits patiently, reading a book, waiting for it to be over. Good times.

I change the channel if it's boring, or really predictable.

But there is something about a truly terrible movie, that forces me to sit through it.

Even movies that are so boring they are hypnotizing.....Lawrence Of Arabia was like that to me. I saw it as a young man, and was bored out of my mind. It never ended. It went on forever. I think it came on TV at 10PM, and it lasted half way through the night.

But I was invested. I wasn't going to let this movie defeat me. I trudged on, dying of thirst...putting off going to the bathroom....half starving....until it finally ended. I felt victorious.

But who knows? I might like the movie today.

Rotten Tomatoes gave that movie 93% from the critics and movie-goers alike, just goes to show that a movies content and subject matter is one of taste.

I didn't say it wasn't a great movie. There are lots of great movies out there that I wouldn't enjoy watching.

The current movies that are winning Oscars (for example) that are making social statements, I just can't watch. That doesn't mean they aren't important great movies.

I understood that. I would rather watch Interstellar than Laurence any day. (although I still don't understand the ending of Interstellar)

Any very good, well written movie and well acted can be enthralling but you have to give it a chance. Your like me though, we don't go near them in the first place. I even avoid comedies, preferring tv sketch shows and monologs.

No Super Hero's, SIFI, or Tme Travel etc, not interested. Movies, at least for me are for escapism, not to sit through the drudgery of the human psyche.

Interstellar? To me, a brilliant, heart felt movie....but I agree about the ending, I didn't get it at all. All the scenes where he was in the worrmhole, looking at his daughter across time....none of that made sense to me at all.

I LOVE TLJ. There's something so charming about
him. Plus he's just so cool.

Once I detect a movie is going to be awful I change
the channel right away. I would not walk out of the
theater though because there's usually more going
on besides just the movie, like a date/double date.

One of the last times we went to the movies was to
see Avatar. It was me, my Husband and a couple
of the in-laws, we had SO MUCH FUN that night.
We went to dinner and then to the movies, it was
      a wonderful date night.

Besides its special effects, Avatar wasn't really
that great, but I would have stayed regardless.

First off the Birds is from 1963. Special effects are not like they are today. Alfred Hitchcock was usually ahead of the time with the technology. That was available almost 60 years ago.
The movie The Birds was based on a true event.

"Alfred Hitchcock's film The Birds was inspired by the 1961 true event of California's Monterey Bay. Dying birds, clearly disoriented, dive bombed into houses in the Monterey Bay area. Marine biologists suggest that the birds were poisoned, causing them to act erratically and fall to their eventual death. " ( Sourced via a google searched)

Speaking of shock and terror - Psycho was another of Alfred Hitchcock's famous movies.

I had no idea that Brackwom was talking about The Birds.
That movie is a classic and Tippi Hedren was great in that role.
I love all those old Hitchcock movies, but Psycho not so much.

        One of mine as well.

It's interesting to me the tastes we have.

I used to love watching old Abbott and Costello movies. A couple weeks ago, I recorded several of their movies. I got through two, before I realized that I didn't think they were funny anymore. Same with the Three Stooges.

The Pink Panther movies still make me laugh out loud, but my wife hates them.

Think of it this way. Think of the flavor Butterscotch.

Personally, I don't like the taste. Does that make butterscotch bad? No. It means I don't like it. I like sardines and anchovies. Some of you are gagging right now just seeing the words.

We all have things we like or dislike.

Is The Suicide Squad a bad movie? It's purely a matter of preference. 91% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes liked it, as did 85% of the audience. Did they all see a different movie? Were they all hypnotized? Bought off? Are they idiots? Or is it possible that 15% just didn't like the movie?

"Worst movie ever?" That reminds me of something...

A guy was in my store, looking at his phone, trying to get a lower price online (it happens often). He couldn't find a better price and said "This is the worst day of my life".

Being the person I am, I offered condolences. I said "I'm so sorry to hear this. Did a close family member die today?" He looked at me like I was a moron, and said "No, of course not".

"Did you just find out you have a terminal illness?" He was getting little annoyed.

I said "It's just that you said this is the worst day ever. Do you mean because you can't pull up a price on your phone, it's the worst day you've ever had?"

        He said "Yes".

I said "My God, I wish I had a life where that was the worst thing that ever happened to me. You are leading a charmed life, I hope it continues"

        He left.

It used to be about once a year that I would allow myself to say what I think. Now, soooo close to retirement, I do it more often.

        It's kind of fun.

          .
I agree, it is weird how two people can have completely different tastes in things..like polar opposite.

For example, one of my running buddies back in the day while living in Nashville commented about how the girl was so hot behind the cash register we were eating at. I did a double take and I kid you not she was just physically unattractive dare I say straight out ugly ( and I would say about 99.999 % of guys who saw her would say that)

Then that same friend was dating this hispanic girl and while we were all sitting at dinner ( Me, him and his girlfriend) he kept saying ( in front of her) "Rob don't you think she is just gorgeous". He said it about three times in the span of 2 hours. And she was not gorgeous even in the slightest, imho ( and in most guys).

Anyway, sorry to sound superficial but just wanted to give examples of how Claude's notion is spot on when it comes to people having different tastes. And how two people can literally see the same thing and have opposite views on it.

I understand that but as a woman, and in our defense, at
least we try to glam ourselves up and present ourselves
in a positive light and try to be on our best behavior.

But most of you guys don't even give a care how you look,
                dress or behave.

Imagine how we feel when presented with someone who
hasn't even bothered to shave. It's not exactly eye candy.

And BTW, although some of us might have a little drama,
                women are not movies.

Sorry if I hurt anybody's feelings.

Well she's with him because he probably finds her ability to look that good.

As long as he has the money he will have a girl like that .

Beauty standards differ around the world in the USA woman tan to darken their skin much of the world . Much of the world lighter skin color is more attractive. As lighter skin is tied to wealth.

Shortly after my divorce was finalized I was in Walmart and a short haired woman started talking to me. She was mature, though probably 10 years younger than me, of average sized build, neither beautiful in the classic sense or unattractive, well dressed in a casual sort of way. I found her attractive enough and great to talk too., but due to my "never again" attitude towards women at the time, I did not initiate anything and eventually walked away saying "well, it was nice to meet you" I have since regretted that.

It was quite a while after that I remembered way back that when working in a PC store in the UK, I had a women customer who was very similar appearance and looks and I "think" their was some attraction there. Nothing came of it though.

So does that mean you are attractive (and attracted to) to certain types of women. Perhaps. But that's a different thread.

But in this one, it is plain to see we are all attracted to different types and genres of movies. Sometimes forgiving, allowing for them to be less than phenomenal simply because we like the premise.

I totally agree with that, love the panther movies, so silly and still love the slapstick and characterizations.

But, the old ones, not funny. I will make two exceptions, the Marx Brothers and to a much lesser extent, Laurel & Hardy.

I agree. But I think Laurel and Hardy are funnier. The Marx brothers had several really well done movies.

The Pink Panther movies have some of the most gut wrenching...laugh out loud moments in movie history.

By far this is the worst l have seen.

Terrible acting, cliche story and anyone single doesn't stay so for long.

I only watched it for the sexy alien, and putting bets on whether the robot would fall over or not?

Although this was pretty bad, but the Giant Spider, just got it over the line, (going by memory there was a spider).

First, welcome back, you were missed.

And I've seen those two movies. Terrible movies made in a week, with almost no money.

But they aren't the worst of that batch. Robot Monster is, I think the worst movie ever made. as bad as Plan 9 From Outer Space.

I Robot Monster, the alien is a guy in a gorilla suit, and a diving helmet. His alien weapon is...I'm not joking...a soap bubble machine......it makes soap bubbles.

The vast majority of the movie has the "Monster" walking back and forth on a hilly plot of land...and walking in and out of a shallow cave.

It's so boring, it's painful. I've watched it twice this year. I can't stop laughing at how terrible the dialog is, and how nonsensical the action is.

      A true classic.

      Enjoy

Sounds like Boris Carlof is in it, you sure it is terrible, after all he made Frankenstein, (past tense)?

And the Devil Girl, does use Inverted, Nuclear whatever it was, which gives a weak premise for blowing shit up, but movies like that need a happy ending.

Boris Karloff wasn't in either movie. But Bela Lugosi was in Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Lugosi suffered from severe back pain and was a hopeless drug addict in later life. He made a long string of terrible science fiction /horror movies in the 1940s and 1950s.

Sometimes he played a very minor part in the movie, but his name helped get investors for these terrible films.

Plan 9 From Outer Space was Lugosi's last film. He died after a few test scenes were shot. The "director" used the test footage of Lugosi (that didn't fit the film at all), and hired a stand in for Lugosi's shots.

A few years before he died, Lugosi was in the hospital for drug addiction. He held a press conference saying that he was cured. the reality was that the had to leave because he couldn't pay the bill.

Sometime Lugosi was only paid $1,000 to be in a movie.

Not seen but I note the idea was taken from an existing conspiracy theory that the moon is hollow and put there for a reason. The only things cited to support this is that it is pretty much perfectly round and allegedly rang like a bell when things were crashed into it.

As you have said in the past, due to its size, relatively stable orbit and distance, the dynamic it plays in stirring up the tides, weather and perhaps life could be a prerequisite or huge influence on it appearing.

It should be easy to determine the density of the moon based on the gravity it exerts upon the Earth and on its size and mean distance I would have thought?

As you have said in the past, due to its size, relatively stable orbit and distance, the dynamic it plays in stirring up the tides, weather and perhaps life could be a prerequisite or huge influence on it appearing.

It should be easy to determine the density of the moon based on the gravity it exerts upon the Earth and on its size and mean distance I would have thought?
The moon rings like a bell because all objects carry vibrations, even a moon.
The Moon's density is known, and is exactly what you would expect from a solid rock the size of the moon.

It's almost perfectly round for the same reason all planets and moons with gravity are round. And the Moon started, not as a collection of rocks, but globs of molten magma. The Earth is almost perfectly round for the same reason.

In the movie, it shows that the Moon is actually a ship with a dwarf star at its center powering the whole thing.

At the movie, my wife whispered to me "Aren't dwarf stars bigger than the Moon?".

The answer is Yes, they are bigger than a Moon. Bigger than our planet in fact.

And even a dwarf star that was so small it would fit inside the moon, would still have the gravity of a Sun. Even the smallest white dwarf star would have a gravity thousands of times greater than Earth's gravity.

But...the movie is so ridiculous for reasons I haven't stated. Every few minutes, something impossible happens.....a lower budget Armageddon. and 2012 combined.

But then, if you simply detach the part of the brain that knows anything, or thinks, it's a fun movie.

My wife has almost no scientific knowledge. But at the end of the movie, I asked her what she thought and she said "It was one impossible miraculous minute after another. But the actor playing the conspiracy theorist was funny". I agree, he was the part of the movie that made it watchable.

But again, it was fun to watch. But I wouldn't even call it science fiction.

The Moon forming after a planet crashed into our planet, gives us a stable rotation, tides, predictable seasons, and slowed the Earth's rotation, over a few billion years.

When the Moon as newer, the days were only 6 or 8 hours long, and the Moon was so close to Earth that the tides rose and fell a thousands feet a day or more.

The collision with the smaller planet (creating our Moon) also added lots of iron to our core, and set it spinning, creating our magnetic field...making life possible.

      Two.

I watched the movie The Swarm. It was made in 1978. It was loaded with stars. Michael Caine played he lead. It was so bad I laughed out loud at some of the overacting and dialog. At first, I thought it was just trying to be camp on purpose.

But no, it was just terribly done.

I recently saw Matrix Resurrections. I'm a real Matrix fan, and a fan of Keanu Reeves. But this movie was terribly written. It was as though the director just had to make another Matrix movie...to fulfill some inner need.

Worst movie ever? Hardly. But in the series, it was really bad.

Concur. It felt as though the producers were going to lose their IP rights if they didn't release a movie. The "film" added nothing to the overarching story and was an absolute slog to get through. It reminded me of one of your presentations.

I agree. It was as if it was exactly the same storyline as the first movie. Watching it I was like why did they even bother making this.

The first one was hilarious, especially the Bill Murray character.

The second was the only movie I ever walked out of the theater on.

I asked my date, "Want to go do something else?"

You were possibly expecting to see something like Margin Call.

The Wolf Of Wall Street is only tangentially about finances. It's about an ambitious man who can sell ...better than almost any human alive. It's about his decent into criminality and drug abuse.

At one point, after he made millions, the FTC just asked him to stop selling inflated stocks. All he had to do was start selling stocks at their real value, and not taking advantage of people.

But...he wouldn't stop. And it destroyed his life, and the lives of those around him.

I saw the movie as well. I thought it was a really well done movie about a real person who is deeply flawed. Did I enjoy it? Not really. I was hoping to see more of the inside story, more than Jordan Belfort wrote about in his books.

I loved Margin Call and The Big Short. My kind of movies. I love seeing inside baseball.

I try not to watch bad movies at all. I always pay attention to the rating of the movie, to the director and producer. These variables are quite important for me because I want to enjoy the watching but not to watch the movie which will be disgusting or awful for me.
I once watched the movie which seemed to me quite awful, but sicne then I thoroughly explore the description of the movie and the cast in order not to watch the movie where I can find an unpleasant actors for me.

All the people have bad and good movies and this thing is super subjective, but I try to watch only good ones.
