What Causes Planes To Plummet And Computers To Fail?

It's not always software bugs, mechanical or hardware failures. It's the nature of the universe, we are constantly under attack. It's surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, cosmic rays..

Very interesting video.

Here's a tidbit. The space shuttle had 4 computers onboard, all doing the same monitoring. This is simply because a stray cosmic ray could hit one and throw it's software out giving a false reading. So, the other 3 would overrule it.

I love this forum because there's always something new to learn.

    Especially from you.

I found it very interesting how the uranium in the ceramic could
cause computers to glitch. Or neutrons and cosmic rays.

I wonder how often that happens.

As to the airplanes crashing, I like to watch those air disaster
documentaries and it's mind-boggling how many conditions
can cause a plane to crash, besides pilot error.

Thanks for this, it is a fascinating video.
