Four Amateur Astronauts Splash Down After Three Days In Space

Orbiting the earth 360 miles up, going around it 15 times per day. and the package deal was only 200 million, 50 million each. Take a cruise around the earth, only 50 million per person. The capsule was entirely remote controlled from the earth and contained no pilot.

I expect the flat earthers will condemn it as all fake but as more and more of these trips take place, people go up and prices drop, even they will eventually have to concede.

This is the part I really liked:

Mr Isaacman was joined by three strangers he had selected - geoscientist and former Nasa astronaut candidate Sian Proctor, 51; physician assistant and childhood bone cancer survivor Hayley Arceneaux, 29; and aerospace data engineer and Air Force veteran Chris Sembroski, 42.

He paid an estimated 200 million - and chose regular people he didn't know to take the ride. Not his rich buddies or celebs, etc - but regular people.

The smiles after they touched down...were amazing.

No. Never. If overwhelming evidence ever convinced anyone to change their minds, humans would never argue.

The takeoff and re-entry and landing were probably a thrill.

But I try to imagine the experience.

Three days of weightlessness, with a small group of people in a small space. Maybe like going on a three day flight...plus being weightless.

When jets started taking us across the country, I wonder if people just bought a ticket to experience the flight (not having a real destination).

I wonder how being weightless for three days will translate to a thrill ride now that someone did it?

I watch You-Tube video's of people trying out the services of cruise ships, trains, hotels and air travel. Sometimes economy, but more often luxury, first class etc. Makes you wonder where they get the money from. Most are not paid experiences from travel firms but private individuals or couples. They seem to spend most of their year travelling.

I can see the top hotel room, the cruise ships and trains being appealing, but the plane travel, however luxurious, not so much. I have travelled in better than economy class on a plane, once even got a free upgrade to business class. I still could not wait to get it over and done with and get out of that restrictive tube.

As far as space travel to view the earth, experience weightlessness etc. The length in time of a long haul plane flight will probably do me.

I hadn't thought of that. If the windows were huge, and you could see space and the Earth, crystal clear, that might be worth being cramped for three days.

But to pay even $100,000 for the trip? No.

Three days without being able to step outside for a Vape... Another reason I don't like planes. And no idea what the food will be like. Bathroom arrangements and sleeping etc.

Hey, but once we launched our gravitasticals into space, prolly we all at the mercy of space gals anyways.

There is so much wrong with the statement "Flat earthers are crying ".

First, among humans, Flat Earthers are generally used as an example of people that believe something despite absolute and profound evidence that they are wrong.

But they aren't any different from the vast majority of the people making fun of them. Every day, the majority of people I talk to say at least one nonsensically impossible thing during a discussion. If I pointed it out to them, they would think I was crazy questioning what to them is a fact.

It's human nature. My guess is that at least 95% of the people in the US not only believe something as nonsensical as a Flat Earth, but it's a central part of how they see the world. We only make fun of flat earthers because their nonsense is different than our own nonsense.. So we feel safe making fun of them. But we all believe things that are not rational in any way, and that fly in the face of empirical evidence.

And...flat earthers aren't crying. They are laughing at the people they see as sheep falling for a lie. They laugh at us for the same reason we laugh at anyone that is different from us. We laugh because we lack the awareness of what it's like to be them.

"Flat earthers are crying " also assumes that someone who believes something impossibly nonsensical will suddenly change their view of reality by hearing one news event. Nope. We'll just think of that story as an attack. And it will just strengthen our resolve that our world view is right. If evidence ever changed anyone's
mind, there would be no arguments.

One in four Americans don't know that the Earth revolves around the Sun. 45% of Americans (these are adults) don't believe the Sun is a star. 45%. And remember, they are making fun of Flat Earthers.

Amazing information did not know the other statics...Guess it's based on who educated them. Wonder what they think the Sun is? Then again maybe not.

To be fair, astronomy isn't something most people think about. My guess is that the vast majority of college educated people don't know how old the universe is, or what keeps the Sun burning, or how close the stars are...or what a galaxy is.

If you asked most people what those lights in the dark night are, they would say "Stars", but if you asked them to explain what a star is, most couldn't tell you.

Heck, when I was growing up, my family's knowledge of "Science" was that it was evil.....and we had several old wives tales and superstitions that substituted for science.

Like gambling, most of the time they lose and despite possibly the trend being perhaps a valid point it does not "blow up" because the business world will not allow it too, seeking a more stable solution collectively. Despite wars, conflicts and economic downturn, the human race actually likes stability and maintaining the status quo. Not to say though that an occasional win will not happen.

You are not a slot fanatic or a casino person, or a speculative investor. These people are responsible gamblers, otherwise you would see their house being re-possessed. Does that make them mad, not necessarily.
            I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.

These people believe in conspiracies. And these conspiracies' are so ingrained in their lives, that they believe absolutely that they have a source of inside knowledge, that others aren't privy to. Like a cult.

For example, I have a friend that told me that he knew about the Illuminati, and he knew for a fact that Mitt Romney was going to be elected president. When I asked him how he knew, when the stats were pointing in the other direction, he got angry and called me ignorant. Another friend has told me for several years that the economy was going to crash, money was going to be worthless....and he always had a date, and it always didn't happen. This happened at least three times that I remember. Of course, I can't ever ask "So what about that prediction you made?" because that would lose them as a friend.

Hunches are a different thing. Everyone has hunches. Everyone has intuition. The people I'm talking about have detailed structures in their mind, that give them definite impending events that they believe.

              Here's a tale from Fam Balestra ...

"Do I appear older to you, the closer you gaze upon me?"

The young girl girl stared at the crone. "What do you mean?"

"Do I appear older to you, the closer you gaze upon me?"

"Let me see," said the girl, blinking. "What am I looking for, exactly?"

Their eyes met for a moment.

"Do I appear older to you, the closer you gaze upon me?"

"I dunno. What am I looking for? I don't even know who you are."

The girl looked away, then looked back.

"Do I appear older to you, the closer you gaze upon me?"

That's when the girl started to get smart. "By definition, you are older now because the dialog between us proves it."

Before the girl could walk away, she was turned to stone.

The cavern of crones is timeless, but it is not eternal.

Petrification cannot flourish without the vernal.

My favorite is gold bugs who have been predicting the collapse of the USA dollar being a year or two away. Spence we went of the gold standard.50 years ago.

I don't even know why flat earthers get any attention as it was the earth going around the sun and other planets having their own moon was the paradigm shift in beliefs.

Most of my friends are business owners. Many with employees. Many that we would call wealthy.

But most also believe in at least one impossible thing, like they have a secret source of information that predicts the absolute certain crash of the economy, guaranteed election results, sports winners, There is always a date. And if I question why they are so certain, they think I'm acting like an idiot...not believing the absolutely conclusive evidence they just told me (which is invariably irrational.)

And, when their certain thing doesn't come to pass, they don't bring it up again, and soon they have another crisis event that they have the "inside scoop" on....that is absolutely guaranteed to happen.

And I never bring up the thought that the last 5 things they absolutely knew were going to happen...didn't happen. That's a guaranteed way to lose friends.

To me, these are great guys and women....who are insane. Just like the rest of us.
