The Battle For Me Between Qled & Oled TV's

Last year I bought A Samsung 65" Qled tv, an led full array backlit tv. very bright picture, a Q80t

This year I saw they had a new one with many (hundreds) more backlights, but much smaller lights than last years, (called a Qned) so the tv was reported as being a bit dimmer but better control on illuminating the picture highlights and black and contrast levels. So I took myself off to a big box store to take a look. I was less than impressed.

Turning the corner I saw two Sony 65's side by side. One was a traditional led with traditional back lights. It was so much better than the Samsung, everything popped with brightness and color. (Sony has a great image processor too) However, next to that was a Sony Oled, with the self lighting pixels and an impossibly thin screen.

It took me a while to notice looking back and forth, but the Oled, although dimmer, was much sharper and had an incredibly picture with deep black and contrast, very realistic image. Well it would, when presenting a pitch black part of a scene, the tv is switched off in that area. I was sold, and it was not that much more in cost.

So, I went home and ummed and ahhed about it for a few days. I nearly pulled the trigger and ordered it for store pickup at 1 am in the morning but held out to the following day, just as well I did, it went down by $450.00 overnight. Now the same price as the other Sony Led was. That had gone down too.

Having had it for a few weeks, I now realize that Oled TV's are the best picture out there. And Sony probably make the best. The TV model for reference only: 65" Sony Oled, A80J. (currently $1849.00)

So, what are your opinions on Oled's V Qleds, What do you have, and what would be on your wish-list if buying new?

Being a Samsung Fanboy I purchased three Samsung TVs and I have ended up regretting every TV purchase. I will never buy another Samsung tv again. The greatest of all tvs are the Sony but you have to spend a good amount of money-well worth it in my opinion. But, LG OLEDs are the absolute best when it comes to getting the best bang for your buck. Awesome Picture, Features, Remotes and best of all Prices!

The LG C1 65" is currently $1799.00 and is the equivalent model to the Sony A80J at $1849.00, only $50.00 difference. If you are in the market for one this makes the Sony highly desirable as the reviews were great and it was said to have about 90 percent of its coveted 90 series 65" capabilities that is currently thought to be the best, but, over 3k.

The LG pips it a bit if you are a gamer because the A80J does not have multipule refresh rates but is said will come in an update. I'm not a gamer though, just a tv watcher.

The prices of all the high end 4k tv's are dropping as all the companies are moving towards 8k. There is not a lot of 8k content out there to show and not being broadcast yet. Let's hope they can improve the HD and 4k upscaling to make it more worth our while.

I am currently on my second Samsung Led TV. I had bought a Q80T 65" that replaced a Q70R 55". The Q80T is now my second TV. I like the interface and ease of use of Samsung TV's. What are your reservations about Samsungs?

We have an old Samsung and need to replace it soon (it turns itself off after half an hour), so thanks for the info. Is there a big price difference between the Samsung and Sony?

Latest Samsung 65" Qned: $1699.00: Sony 65" Oled, A80j: $1849.00, only $150.00 more, tax of course added on both in the US.

A good time to buy as the price of high end 4k tv's is plummeting due to the move towards 8k tv's.

Rumor control say's that Samsung is currently working on a technology that will Eliminate backlighting altogether and give you a product that is thinner than Led's and have the same black and contrast levels of the Oled but will be brighter. When and how much remains to be seen.

Until then, for sheer picture quality and accuracy, contrast and black levels, Oled still rules. Best to go to a store and scrutinse the two technologies side by side. After a short while, you will see the difference.

Thanks that sounds like it would be worth the $150 extra!
