You Are Granted 10 Wishes

A more than generous genie shows up and grants you 10 wishes. No deceptions or conditions, whatever you wish for, they are granted. If you don't want them granted all at once you can call him back anytime to do more of them until you reach the whole 10. You may even have the ones granted undone as part of your 10.

What would you wish for?.....

    Great question. OK.

    1. Completely healthy.
    2. Die of old age, not due to health issues.
    3. $10 billion. I would share it with family and true friends and possibly

    donate some to charity.
    4. Buy a multi-million dollar mansion with all the mod cons and a cook, gardener, and cleaning crew.

    5. Several nice cars and a chauffeur.

I would save the remaining wishes until I find good ideas.

Interesting, what about being 18 again in body with current mindset intact. Honestly there are so many things that you could wish for, it is a very difficult task to figure out. I could wish to be able to hook up with as many ladies that I wanted too or just be a powerful mind that could traverse the universe.
I know you would soon get bored not having to lift a finger ever again to make a living.

I could use two of my wishes to eradicate global warming and any pandemic or disease on the earth.

Excellent ideas, Mark. I didn't put too much thought into it past what I would actually like.I had thought about the young body with my current knowledge...would make me a lot healthier and fitter too.

Eradicate global warming, all pandemics and diseases are excellent ideas, and perhaps eradicate famine, pollution and all WARS too!

The potential list is almost endless. You could use wish 10 to ask for 10 more wishes. Then you could think of other things to eradicate like severe weather problems like fires, floods, erupting volcanoes, all the "wind problems" and so on.

I'm not smart enough to use the wishes to make changes on a macro scale like ending global warming or famine or peace on earth. I'd probably solve ten problems but create eleven new ones.

I'd keep those wishes in my back pocket and use them to keep my loved ones safe.

Okay, I'd use one to grant myself perfect health in perpetuity, and one to make Claude fart violently whenever he offered his opinion. But I'd definitely keep eight in my back pocket for those dark days.

Everyone would use their wishes differently...but I still think having the wishes (to me) would be brilliant!

I would use my very first one to be 100% pain-free.
Then I would have a clearer mind to make my choices.

It is an impossible thing for me to ever have a cleaner mind than I do..I took my mind of of the gutter once and ended up I a coma for three days I will never do that again..

In any case in a similar vein I'd wish for better functioning DNA that gave me a natural healthy lifespan of200 years.

I'd want universal world citizenship so I could go to any country without needing a passport or being considered from any country..

Then I'd want a long list of very rich friends always willing to let me ride with them on their private jets stay in their mansions as guest or house sit and keep an eye on the staff for months at a time. Or stay on their super yachts .

Now have the genie grant the wish that to get this list officially. Is to have an organization that believes wide scale growing of bamboo then burying it in the ground is the fastest most cost effective way to sequester carbon.

And get very rich people to compete among each other..on growing then turning part of the harvest into products to sell and raw carbon to be buried and make a decent profit per acre of bamboo

I swear the are wishes there

The population will barely hit 9 billion before it starts to crash so the hege funds and billionaires will need to do something with the farm land they are buying up

Only once and it will stay that way. I think I will like movies better. When Gillian are purely driving by greed and power and or just violent people again.

And not adults who never got over child hood traumas or are still trying to prove to daddy they can be somebody.

Oh but I hope you got the joke.

In any case would you go back and do the things you did that led to the pain you are in now if you where given youth and a healthy body. Much of what I have learned in the last few years has helped me eliminate 90 percent of my chronic pain. An I can be pain free most of the time. But my back only allows for very short periods of work. And the arthritis in my hands limits. Otherwise as long as I stay warm and eat plenty of vegetables and don't drink to much.

Then to go into woo topics forgiveness and the release of any pent up anger and a reduction in stress. Those are as much behind the inability if you're body's to regenerate. Because they are holding your level of consciousness down.

Medical knowledge will probably be able to extend the lifespan beyond 100 years. But only for those who maintain a healthy body and sustainable diet.

If I was young but with today's knowledge, I would avoid the job that first caused my back problem. I would change some of the other jobs too, and try to exercise more (if that was possible).

I can't type for too long due to hand pain/arthritis, etc and my recliner reduces the back and leg pain a little. If I was back at 18 years of age I have the opportunity to make better decisions. I say 18 because that was when I came to a fork in the road and now I see I chose the chopsticks.

    Me, l only need three.

1#, Learn how to create unlimited wealth.

2# Develop a way of creating free, limitless Energy.

3# Meet an attractive women, with similar interests.

Well, l am probably achieving two, and hopefully the third will take care of itself?

So my only wish would be to become fanatically determined to succeed.

Probably already have that also, so l will pass.

This gets back to the Twilight Zone with the poor, second hand dealer who rubs an old lamp and gets three wishes, then though high taxes and the like, ends up no better off.

If a million lands in your lap, then your subsconous will want to blow it, but if you work hard for it, then you won't!!

If that were true, then half of the worlds population would be in the sex trade and it would be a global banana republic.

As Claude said, it has to come from somewhere, and it has to be real, meaning all the notes have to have valid numbers on them, meaning the value plummets. And every house has a room full of them, so the US would end up as Zimbabwe, where you need a billion dollar note to buy a loaf of bread, (or it add's up to a billion).

You cannot have a Star Trek type economy using currency.

I would wish every dog, cat, horse, etc has a loving home.

I would wish no child goes hungry or uncared for.

Then I'd get stuck. Huge sweeping 'wishes' could disrupt the rhythm of the planet or even of humanity. We can't all live forever or the earth would be overrun.

I might be able to handle five wishes - but ten is just too much stress.

My first thought was that even my first wish, no matter how benevolent, would have effects that are unpredictable. Who knows what terrors a single wish would release.

In the 1930s, a movie (from a book by HG Wells) covered this very issue The Man Who Could Work Miracles.

Every benevolent wish cases effects that are catastrophic. I'm imagining that's what would really happen.

Even a selfish wish like "I want to live forever". How would that work? What would happen to you when you were found out? It would change the world, and your life would be a living hell...forever.

I think considering that the scope of any wish being unlimited you could ask that the world is a safe place to live and its people are all happy and prosperous and kind. but of course, that would ruin the fun of being evil and enjoying edginess in your life. A three wish scenario would be more straightforward. and probably more about you, your personal wealth and health. Having ten makes it far more difficult. However, I did include an undo function.

Imagine the horrors of everyone suddenly taking on a completely different personality.

Imagine everyone suddenly having the same attitude, the same beliefs. Everyone working in harmony....mindless drones. with no free will, no self direction. They would have no choice but to behave in one way. And one way only. A living hell for everyone that wasn't already in line with your wish.

Imagine just wishing that nobody had cancer. A purely benevolent wish.

          What would really happen?

The average life would be extended several years, and the population would skyrocket

Maybe the average lifespan would increase by ten years. But those ten years would nearly all be ten more years of old age, Ten more years of someone caring for you. Ten more unproductive years.

What would that do to world economies?

And then there is this...Suddenly, nobody has cancer. After a few days, it would dawn on the world that something impossible has happened. How would that change our religions? Our traditions? How would that change our grasp of reality?

And if suddenly you decided to mention that you were the one that wished that nobody had cancer...at first (assuming you were believed), you would be praised. Then the problems would mount, and you would get blamed.

And everyone that also had a wish would hate you, because they got no wishes granted, and your wish didn't help them.

When I was a kid, I wanted to fly like Superman. In nearly every dream I have, I can fly like Superman. Even now.

Imagine one day, a wish was granted that I could fly. Even if I never hurt anyone. Even if nobody ever saw me fly...

What would that do to the laws of physics? How would reality change so that I could fly?
Would gravity be affected? How would I change my surroundings to allow me to fly?

I can assume the laws of physics would change to allow me my fantasy...my wish.

And I can't imagine any change in the structure of the universe...for my sole benefit...that wouldn't result in a catastrophe...probably for every living thing in the entire universe.

            So a few thoughts parameters:

Free will and personalities of others cannot be touched.

Living forever is off limits as is being an omnipresent timeless being who knows all would be boring, Though I would like to be 18 again with current mindset. I have less to lose in doing that than most. But I would not like to be 18 back in time when I was that age.

            What can be touched:

Any threat to the planet like global warming or things like an asteroid hit which would make it unlivable can be touched. Even if it is presented as a man made solution. We thrive on problem solving. So a little more knowledge seeped out.

Humans are capable of eventually eradicating disease but I'm afraid dangerous Pandemics capable of devastating death rates would have to go.

It would be nice to be able to make the world just that little more prosperous and stable across the board as less wars go on when we are all doing well.

Then I could turn to the personal stuff about health and some wealth and perhaps creating something that would help humanity. I like purpose and achievement.

            Just a few.

I strongly suspect that if you and I met, we would become fast friends.

But this is how I think.

You want the world to be more prosperous and stable. A generous gift. One I know comes from a good place.

But what would that mean? "When we are all doing well"?

Now....how does that work? Most people spend as much as they make or more. Would they keep doing this? Would you change human behavior? Limit the choices they make? Mind control?

How would that change world economies? How would it change our buying and saving habits? If everyone is "doing well", does that mean that large companies are paying their employees far more than they are now? Are prices keeping up with the increase?

Will we all have the same income, or can some still become wealthy? And if they become wealthy, where does that money come from? Other people.

If you want us all to become more prosperous, you have to change human behavior at a fundamental level.

You think everyone making a great living will stop wars? Will there still be national boundaries? Arguments? Disagreements? Differences in politics and religion? If there is, there will be war, because that's who we are.

I strongly suspect, that if we just kept changing the parameters of what our wishes could be...we soon would come to the point that any wish could only happen in an imaginary world where there are no other real people, only projections from our mind. A "Pocket universe"..

With any wish, just think "and then what happens?"

Or we stick to wishing for stuff to happen that is in the realm of possibility but just seems to be unlikely or beyond what we believe is possible with our own efforts.

It may make for boring wishes .

In view of those observations I would just remove the principal threats then like Global Warming and Pandemics and the like. Everything else will be self determination as normal. It's of no use to have that on an unlivable planet. Which leaves me with a lot more self indulgent wishes. Lol.

Without a slowing of or reverse in population growth there is nothing that can be done about climate change. Even if there was free unlimited renewable energy.

If the population is not growing then we can focus on ways to grow the economy and don't damage the environment.

i once did my own thought experiment to determine what my real inner drives were.

My one selfish wish would of course be to be like Superman. The powers, the costume, all of it (maybe no secret identity).

                  I asked myself several questions;
Would I be willing to be Superman, if I would only live another year? Yes.
Would I still want to be Superman if nobody would ever see me? Yes.
Would I want to be Superman if I had to live alone on Mars? Probably.
What would I do, really, if I had all of Superman's abilities?

And this is ignoring all the consequences of anyone being Superman. The change in world views. the politics of it, the fear it would produce.

I reasoned that, if I suddenly had all Superman's powers when I was 20, because I was like most 20 year olds, I would use my powers to impress women, and for personal gain. I would fly for enjoyment, but also to be the center of attention. I doubt I would have committed crimes. I would have been a hero, but a visible hero.

As an older man? Now? I would keep it completely secret. And only use my abilities invisibly, to save lives, stop natural disasters. But even then, it wouldn't take long for some smart people to figure out what was happening, and it would come to an end.

In fact, I may just leave Earth, and explore the galaxy. Flying, I think, would be fun no matter where I did it.

This idea of course doesn't include anything that would really happen, if this were really possible. More like in a dream. In reality, anything that would destroy my relationship with my wife would be a hard No.

As mild mannered vacuum salesperson, Claude Kent, I think it would be difficult to keep your identity secret, so distinctive are your features.

As for flying through the Galaxy, would not moving out of range of the yellow sun cause you to lose your powers? Custom Superman required.

No, Mark he would only need our yellow sun boxed up in some way for the flight between stars, (the Crypton star as a crystal, falling to Earth, half nelsons him), so most likely a crystal from Earth or Mercery would do the trick, or a lump of coal or oil?

I believe in Supergirl that he was headed towards his home solar system?

Nope, couldn't work. It would imply that the entire population had the same notions of happiness and prosperity as you, and shared your ideals and worldview. But in practice many of those notions would be incompatible or conflicting.

I thought about wishing to be an omni-present being like the Q of Star-Trek. But, in a later Voyager episode one of them wanted to defect and die. It was just so boring knowing everything there was to know and then just toying and manipulating it like Q did.

That's not an option either. There has to be unknowns to discover and keep us interested.

Wow, that's a parameter to work within. I will work on a list.

I think all credit to many of the posters in this thread. Every wish would have some effect on more than just yourself. Even if we only wished for personal things, other people would notice and ask why things changed. Mark, you have a huge challenge. Write some precise ground rules for THREE wishes, not 10...and you can't wish for more wishes.

    I won't pick on Shane's atrocious spelling.

I recall in Supergirl, she had a suit she could wear whenever she needed to fly into outer space, so she retained all her powers. I'm sure Superman could have a similar suit made for him so he could go wherever he wanted without fear of losing his powers due to being out of the Sun's rays.

I had forgotten about him losing his powers under a red Sun.

By the way, I've read the first ten years or so of the Superman comic, I got these reprinted issues in several bound volumes.

Superman is such a silly character. The writers kept expanding his powers until he could juggle planets and blow out the Sun with his super breath.

So they created Kryptonite (and all its various types and effects), they made a Red Sun rob him of his powers. Eventually they lessened his powers so he can no longer fly at the speed of light, breath in outer space, or fly from Sun to Sun.

I remember a conversation I had with a friend about vampires. He said they couldn't come in your home unless invited.

So I asked if the vampire could enter if the house had burned down, if the invitation was in a different language, if the person used sign language, or if the invitation was given sarcastically. Could the vampire come through a window instead? Do tents count? Igloos? Mobile homes? Rentals? Foyers?

This is why I have no friends.

And what would you do with the power. That power also comes with accepting that people will blame yo-yo for almost all the problems in their lives and the bad choices they make. Because it was your mind control that caused the bad choices.

The next step is control the perceived options people have. Which goes with taking the blame.

Here are the options you have if you choose one and thing go bad you can blame me. Try something not in these options and the blame is all on you.

And what would you do with the power.

He would do whatever he wanted....the thread is 'you are granted'....not 'what do you think of what someone else would wish'.

There is no 'blame' involved - it's all conjecture.

There was a Twilight Zone episode where this guy died and woke up in a Casino. He could have anything he wanted, as much as he wanted. He won every game. Every pool shot sunk the 8 ball.

Everything he did brought cheers from onlookers.

    Loved the thread title

you guys will all think i'm f**ing crazy (outside of the ones who already know that i'm the crazy one)...but being 18 again with current mindset is 100% POSSIBLE and it is scientifically proven...long story but it is true 100.

    100% possible

reason i dont share it bc i do consulting as well and if you read my other posts, most people either dont wanna pay me or simply dont have the money to pay me yet wanna take advantage of my knowledge, so i am like dangling a carrot in the eyes of people who have 1 million dollars to spend yet their dna programming won't allow them to as well as their ego personality.

if everyone who came to them once a day and asked for help beyond a f***ing dollar or a dinner, it would probably help humanity on a daily basis...but i know the ones who can't allow that and they hate me...

they hate me that i even share anything on anything on any platform for anything...it's true...

for example, i spoke to an alien controlled human two weeks ago and he was like, its a c theory to believe the cell phones call pick up our thoughts and messages and I was like:

You must be retarded, everyone knows that phones transmit and receive radio frequencies that are translated into and onto a screen...and its already been proven that humans transmits/receives thoughts and it can be measured in the form of a frequency...to think that radio frequencies don't play a factor in society proves the retardation of society and every human who thinks otherwise alien or not...

basically after that, i walked off and left his mind blown...

      I saw that episode.

What I got out of the story is; If you make a deal with the devil to live forever...don't kill your wife and get a life sentence.

So maybe the moral of the story is...don't kill your wife. Maybe that's the important part.

You said "the Universe will just kick your ass".

Yes. But why? Because that's how we learn, gain wisdom, and grow determined.

The universe may have kicked your ass, but it obviously can't kill you, despite multiple attempts.

And for that, I am grateful.

I chose that word for a reason. With your body shape, it's surprising that your age continues to advance...

Unless, of course, you are immortal, ie. the crux of the joke.

I know. And I suspect that you knew I knew.

Be honest with me. Are you explaining the joke to me because you think it's funnier than the original joke?

I do that all the time. If I tell a joke that doesn't land, I then start explaining why the joke is funny. and to me...that's the real joke.

I can't do that with customers (The angst is the whole point of it), but with friends and relatives? It's sweet fun. For me, at least.

I knew what you meant by your post. I took the word "advancing" and decided to use it with slightly altered context, to insult you.

I have a rule book, if you would like me to explain this to you in inexhaustible detail..

                  Silly Rabbit.

PS. Your post insulted my body shape. If my mother were alive today, I would tell her how mean you are to me. I'd tell Cheryl, but she may be on your side.

If I were to encounter such a benevolent genie, I'd approach the granting of wishes with careful consideration, aiming to make a positive impact on both my life and the world around me. Here's how I would utilize those 10 wishes:

Health and Well-being: My first wish would be for lifelong health and well-being for myself, my loved ones, and all living beings on Earth. This includes physical, mental, and emotional wellness for everyone.
Environmental Restoration: I'd wish for the restoration and preservation of our planet's ecosystems, from forests and oceans to rivers and wetlands. This would involve reversing deforestation, combating pollution, and protecting endangered species.
Global Harmony: I'd wish for lasting peace and harmony among all nations and cultures, fostering understanding, empathy, and cooperation to address global challenges.
Education for All: I'd wish for universal access to quality education, empowering individuals worldwide with knowledge and skills to pursue their dreams and contribute to society.
End to Hunger: I'd wish for an end to hunger and poverty, ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious food, clean water, and basic necessities for a dignified life.
Innovation for Good: I'd wish for boundless creativity and innovation to tackle pressing issues such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and healthcare advancements.
Compassionate Leadership: I'd wish for compassionate and visionary leaders to emerge in every sector, guiding us toward a future of justice, equality, and shared prosperity.
Cultural Preservation: I'd wish for the preservation and celebration of diverse cultures and traditions around the world, promoting mutual respect and appreciation for our differences.
Animal Welfare: I'd wish for the protection and humane treatment of animals, recognizing their intrinsic value and importance to the balance of ecosystems.
Gratitude and Generosity: Finally, I'd wish for a world filled with gratitude and generosity, where kindness and compassion are the guiding principles in all interactions.
And lastly, with a nod to personal comfort and sustainability, I'd wish to build my ideal home, crafted with care and environmental consciousness, ideally from ECM homes, blending modern comfort with eco-friendly living practices.

With these wishes, I envision a world where each individual's potential is realized, where nature thrives, and where humanity lives in harmony with the planet and each other.
