I give it a two thumbs up. Good story and was dark and gritty and kept you on the edge of your seat. As many of you know I am not into the super hero, action genre.

But I think this goes back to what lanfear said in a previous post; it was nostalgic for me after seeing the first one back 33 years ago in 89' with Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton.

Robert Pattinson ,imho, is a really good actor. He was amazing in Twilight and played this role brilliantly.

Yes, a vampire in Twilight had no difficulty transitioning to a bat.

  • The Batman (2022) is a good film. It looks like this film has potential. Like Batman films in general, where the story is so dark and the fight scenes are epic. Robert Pattinson seems like the right choice.

Just came back from watching The Batman.

    Not for kids.

But damn.....that might be the best Batman movie ever, including the incredible The Dark Knight.

Batman narrates part of the movie, You hear his thoughts. Hard to pull off. But after you see this, you'll wonder why every Batman movie didn't do it.

Nearly every scene is perfectly directed. Every angle, every slight gesture, every word spoken. Every word not spoken.

The perfect Batman movie. Not a super hero movie. But if you are a Batman fan, this will keep the theme music in your head for an hour after you leave.

Batman is the world's greatest detective. Something never really shown in the movies. It shows here.

This is a game changing movie, the same way Logan was masterfully done as an X-Men movie. In its own league.

Ben Affleck's Batman fight scene in the warehouse remains my favorite Batman scene.

But casting Pattinson as Batman was inspired.

Nobody that sees this movie will be joking about sparkly vampires.

Yes, the scene where he gets Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mrs Peacock, Mr Boddy , Sargent Gray and The Riddler in the room, and reviews the surveillance footage of the man in the green outfit with question marks all over it and a mask committing the murder and names him right off the "bat" like that was a masterstroke in deduction.

When I see people like that, I wonder about their motivation. What part of dressing up like a super hero attracts them?

Is it just something to do with friends, like any group activity?
Are they just comic book fans who have their heroes, and think it's neat?
Is there are sexual aspect to it?
Do they really think they will look cool?
Are they trying to lose their own identity, by pretending?

      What need does this fill?

How does it make them happy?

Those questions race through my mind whenever I see someone doing something unusual.

When I see someone wear a costume of a super hero, I wonder why they aren't training to be stronger, more muscular. That would make them look far more like a super hero than dressing the part.

As a kid, I had a red blanket that would act as a superman cape. Kids pretend and dress up.

At Cosplay conventions I expect dressing up is more for fun and to out-do others in the quality and attention to detail in your costume. And a sense of comradery in fandom. Pretty harmless, a hobby and a bit of fantasy.

As for people who dress up more seriously and go out and try to stop crime or emulate their hero's by trying to duplicate some of the things they do. Well, that's just dangerous.

Maybe 20 years ago, someone on E-bay was selling a Superman costume from the 1950s series. It included everything but the boots. It wasn't in perfect condition, but it was an original costume worn on the show.

It was $3,000. I almost bought it.

But I told Cheryl about it, and she asked me what I would do with it.

          So I thought about it.

i could put in on a mannequin and display it in our home.
I could just put in in a drawer.
I could wear it (assuming it would be close to a fit. I was thinner back then).

All those ideas sounded stupid when I said them out loud. So I decided not to buy it.

I was a huge Superman fan since I was a little kid. I still like the films and read a comic once in a while. But as an adult, I see Superman as a nonsensical character, like Peter Pan. I still like the character, but it's nostalgia now.

But for whatever reason, when I see the Superman insignia, my heart still beats a little faster. Weird.

Very dark, very gray, sometimes it is very hard to see what is happening on the screen, you have to look closely or guess. Lots of murders, lots of mysteries that Batman successfully and quickly solves. Finally, Robert Pattison plays a normal hero, and then after the legendary vampire, in my opinion, he was very unlucky with the roles, everything is very passing, fleeting, not interesting.
I also liked Catwoman, strong, impetuous, beautiful, sexy. You can watch it once, but no more.

Turn on every vaccum cleaner in your store. Then, walk around for TWO hours and film them, first a quick walk, then a slow one with a stop at every one. Make it 3 hours.

That video would contain better acting, better movie production value, better story line than this absolute one of the worst movies ever made Batman fiasco.

I would watch your vacuum cleaner movie all day and eat thistles and thorns before having to endure that travesty for another go.

I guess I didn't care for it, eh? But to each his own.

I must say, despite it being on HBO, I'm getting very mixed messages about this movie. Most are unfortunately negative saying it's overlong and boring and 3 hours is a long slog. I like superhero movies with a story but I must admit, I prefer a lot of action and fantasy, seeing my hero's come to life. This seems to be more like an average detective story with Cosplay! I must separate myself from people who say, hey, it's Batman and anything with Batman action is worth watching and say, Fandom can sometimes be blinding.

I am increasingly reluctant to commit the time and still many cat video's on you-tube as yet unseen.

Real comic readers like the movie. It shows Batman like he was in the 1940s. An avenging angel. In the early comics, he killed his villains..

The only critiques I saw that were negative talked about the last act, how it really wasn't needed. But Rotten Tomatoes has it at 85% for the critics and 87% for the viewers.

When I read a really scathing review of a movie I thought was a classic...maybe the best Batman movie ever...I wonder what they were expecting. Were they a fan of the comic? The movies? Batman isn't really a super hero. He's an obsessed vigilante with borderline mental illness. A Batman movie could easily be a horror movie, like the film Joker was.

To me, it's a mistake to try to put Batman in with other more "comic booky" heroes. But MARVEL did a good job putting Thor with the Avengers, and even putting Guardians Of The Galaxy (nearly a pure comedy) in with the Avengers. I was surprised at how well these characters mixed.

I haven't watched it for a second time yet, but I'm sure I will. I put it up there with Logan as far as a quality movie.

I remember that movie. It wasn't as bad as I had heard. In fact, about two thirds of the way through it, I wondered why everyone hated the movie. and then...

They edited the last third of the movie, taking out the big action scene. Dumb.

And...it was shot as a horror movie, not a super hero movie. It was one of the few time that it was better if you weren't a comics fan, so you wouldn't know how bad the screw up was.

But I knew it was a horror movie going in, so that didn't ruin it for me.

The New Mutants was shot as a horror movie. I saw it and didn't enjoy it.

To each their own. We all have different tastes. Different expectations.

Hey, just because I have found different ways to insult you in the past, I'm noticing they are even more less effective than they used to be so I was just trying to be creative with criticizing your tastes in movies.

I'm sure the Batman movie was fine. I'm questioning myself though, was I really such a big Batman fan in the first place that I would want to devote 3 hours to it. I admit that I like him paired up with the DC hero's or fighting Superman and seen them. But, I have not watched a Batman movie since the one with Heath Ledger in it.

Tomorrow is our last day. And Monday we move everything out.

                      Thanks for asking.

Well, it's all over, gone 2pm. The end of an Earhole. Don't forget to clear out all the er, AV equipment in your basement. Did you make a good sale to round the day off? In fact, did you have a closing down sale with genuine discounts? Sorry, got a bit carried away there.

Just finished it. It's not so much a Batman movie as it is a Sam Spade movie with a healthy dose of ennui.

Surprisingly, I didn't hate Pattinson as Batman. I did not, however, like his Bruce Wayne, but they didn't spend any time developing that side of the character.

The plot was muddy and some of the scenes felt stilted. They were going for a nostalgic hard boiled vibe and sometimes it was too on the nose.

Claude was right when he mentioned that the last act wasn't needed. I think they could have lopped off a solid 45 minutes and had a much tighter film.

Mark, if you like Humphrey Bogart's crime thrillers, you'll be okay with this.

Not a bad film, but Claude, sir, this was no Logan.

I watched the 3 minute trailer, with the heavy, Hollywood rain, and thought l will make a prediction that all of the fight scenes have the rain, and when the Joker appears there is thunder as well?

Probably a dance scene when Cat woman shows up, (typical 2022 music video, rain, leather outfit)?

                    You GOT it.

I think as a film, it was as good as Logan. Logan had several scenes that made me tear up. And the last scene where she changed the cross on his grave to an X? I couldn't hold it back. Brilliant scene. And a brilliant movie.

I think the reason you didn't like the movie as much as Logan?

You weren't invested in the Batman mythos as much as the Marvel characters. and I agree that MARVEL is far ahead of DC in building characters.

I think if you would have known (before you watched the movie) that his was a pure detective story, with a raw and inexperienced Batman....with an undeveloped Bruce Wayne persona....knowing it was going to be a 1940s detective story, mixed with elements of the movie Seven....I think you would have liked it more.

                    But maybe not.

I know my appreciation is biased because of what I expect from the character, and how I imagine him to be.

My issue with comparing this to Logan is this movie could have been, with a few simple changes, a Lethal Weapon or Die Hard movie. By the director's treatment (or lack of treatment) of Batman, it felt very "plug and play", almost like they pulled an old screenplay out of a filing cabinet, changed a few names, and said "Hey! We got another Batman movie!"

There was zero development of the Batman character. It actually felt as if it were the second film in a trilogy but they released it first. There was no explanation of established relationships and very little exposition for the Batman character. I don't need to have my hand held, so I'm mostly okay with this, but it still felt as though some of the narrative was missing. This is what separates it from Logan

To me, Logan was nearly flawless and poignant. It hit all is marks. And it did so without you seeing it coming. It was a complete surprise.

I will say this: Paul Dano, in his limited screen time, stole the movie. The scene in the diner alone should (but won't) win him an Oscar. He has that quiet-yet-boiling-under-the-surface psycopathy down pat.

Geesh all of this talk about Logan, l mean who would want to spend two hours watching some guy who never dies, getting all of his bones replaced by titanium ones, and suffering immensely????

And l am surprized that Batman didn't have at least 20 minutes of his family dying, and a lot of bats at the start?

I think this movie was an adaptation of one of the Batman graphic novels. It may have been The Long Halloween.

Honestly, I was completely satisfied with the movie more than I expected. I'm of the opinion that it's arguably the best Batman movie that's been released so far in the last decade.

It's worth every penny spent on watching it.
