"Well, you know, Dad..."

I posted this story elsewhere, but it's a little dead down here so I thought I'd kick the cobwebs by rousing you with a quick, little story about my son. Indulge a dad for a moment...

We decided to order take out from a local restaurant that we frequent. The place is always packed; the lobby always full.

I took my son, 6, with me to get him out of the house. I wasn't paying attention as I was trying to steer us through the crowd to the take out counter.

As we get to the counter, my son tugs at my arm and gives me a confused look. "Dad, some girl just ask if she could sit with me at dinner." A little strange, but whatever. We get our carryout and start making our way back through the lobby.

On the way back out, the girl gives my boy the googly eyes the entire way through the lobby. She even steps in front of him and just stares at him.

On the way to the car, I tell him, "I think that girl liked you."

To which my son says, "Well, you know, Dad, I *am* pretty handsome."

"Oh, you are, are you?"

"Yeah," he says. "I've even given myself a nickname: Mr. Handsome."

The teen years with this one are going to be entertaining.

Do you have any stories about your kids that just make you shake your head?

She said to him, "Are you alone", "no" he said, "I'm with my father", "Where" she said? "Look Down"

I remember visiting my aunties house on several occasions from aged 7 onwards and playing with the next door neighbor's daughter around my age. Wow, we got on so well, had such a connection, so much fun, and she was pretty. But it was about a 90 minute drive
and visits were occasional. That length of a drive was considered a long way back then.

One often wonders if we had lived next door to each other if their would have been any romance in later years, how we might have changed and grown apart, or not. Perhaps my perfect companion only at that time!
