A life lesson in two minutes for your kids or for new IMers:



Show them the replay to the Kentucky Derby Race.
1. Not the best starting position (in fact, the WORST starting position)
2. Not the biggest or best horse
3. Only made it into the race on account of another horse having to scratch
4. $30,000 horse against multi-million dollar horses.
5. First Kentucky Derby entry for the colts owner, trainer, and jockey.
6. Venezuelan jockey is 83rd in earning in North American and has never won a major event.
7. Odds are 80 to 1, the 2nd longest odds in Derby history.

It isn't always about having the best of everything or being the biggest and favored. It's about the size of heart and dedication to win and excel in everything you do!



You have to believe in your horse and in yourself, no matter what the rest of the world might think or say. This is the kind of moment that horse racing is famous for delivering, showing us that any horse, any man or woman, can prevail. Well done Rich Strike!

    After the race, they mentioned a stable fire a few years back. Only 2 horses survived. Was it the owner's stable or was it the actual horse?

    That was the trainer's barn some years ago - wouldn't involve this horse - I think he's a 3 yr old.


    One comment I noticed by the trainer that has not been reported in the media was that this horse did not seem to understand (at first) what he was supposed to do....but the trainer said every race he's run has been faster. What I saw in the Derby seemed to be a horse still picking up speed at the finish line. Horses like this one keep the sport of racing exciting.

    Could be a contender for a triple crown if he wins the Preakness in a few weeks. After the race, they had to really try hard to calm him down. I think the winning ticket paid $163.00 on a $2.00 bet!

      They said the horse will sit out the Preakness though...so I guess the triple crown thing is out. Was a great race and a well-deserved win

      I think sometimes believing in one's self to a degree that they're in denial of a endeavor going nowhere can be detrimental .

      Sometimes it's not just always believing in yourself. I could believe I am the best basketball player in the world. But facts are facts and there is no getting around the fact I will never make it to the nba no matter how big my heart is

      I saw it on Facebook earlier.
      I know nothing about horses, and care nothing about racing.

      But even at that distance it was one of the most inspirational things I've ever seen.

    Also, I think "Belief" is important: Many times it's not the most talented, lucky, or intelligent People that succeed ... It's the People who Believe they can. Belief can overcome any "limitations" (etc) ... Similar to your example. People must Believe 100% they can accomplish what's important to them.
