Tech Tard Needs Some Advise

I have been stumped over the last couple of days (actually most of my life)

I have been having problems with my cordless mouse. The darn thing has become a nightmare to control and to move the cursor. Slow, Slow!. Changed the battery, cleaned the surface where it sits. Changed the settings just a little. No improvement of any kind.

Would I be better off getting a new mouse? If so another cordless or one with a cord.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

    Ken:

Depending on the mouse, there might be software on your computer that can change the speed or sensitivity.

It is possible that your mouse is dying and you need a new one. Wireless or wired is based on personal preference.

Did you pull out the ball and clean the inside. How long did the mouse work. And is it a pricey one or a10-15$ mouse. It might be time to get a new one.

Is the reason you went with a wireless mouse still a thing. The problem I had with them was in games that required high click rates. The wireless type never seem to keep up .

So I'm in the replace camp.

Pull out the ball? lol. Ken, I recently switched from the cordless wireless transmitter variety to Bluetooth. It is more reliable. Only one drawback. Bluetooth is difficult to set to keep awake when the computer goes to sleep. I have it set for one hour. No problem with the wireless transmitter variety but with Bluetooth, I have to tap the power button on the PC to wake it up. No more moving the mouse or hitting the spacebar.

A strange quirk I always had with the wireless transmitter dongle. The mouse pointer would freeze for a couple of seconds about twice a day. Never solved that one. I also get a splash screen briefly show up on startup saying about a mouse and keyboard failure since switching to bluetooth, unable to interact with it and it goes away. Perhaps it still expects the Transmitter variety.

Anyway, catastrophic failure of the mouse, looks like. Does the keyboard still work ok. They both work off one wireless dongle. If you like your keyboard, best to buy a new mouse that is the same brand as it may not work with the existing transmitter if you buy a different make.

I recently bought an MX Keys keyboard from Logitech (expensive). And a new Logitech Bluetooth mouse. The keyboard is heavy and rechargeable (lights up) but it's been running for weeks on one charge. Most amazing feeling keys, smooth as silk and the mouse, the M650L is the best I have ever used. Both connected by Bluetooth. Sheer self indulgence, lol.

I'm in the get a new mouse and keyboard camp, and make sure they are Bluetooth. (though they have a wireless dongle usually as well) Logitech is my favorite brand and the combo packs are less expensive than buying them separately.

I have a Logitech cordless with dongle one and it has done me well, it can also handle weird surfaces and is a small one.

The one with a dimple that the lazer shines through offers more accurate movement than one that doesn't, (you probably have one that doesn't).

Really appreciate all you guys reaching out to me.

SocialEntry you cracked me up with
the 1990s called it want its mouse back.
If I remember correctly the mouse is at least 5 years old and very likely older. It is a Logitech and maybe cost me about $19.95 or less. I just found the same Logitech Mouse on Amazon for $49.95. Can you believe that crap.

    I don't do any gaming so I don't need a fancy mouse.

I'm going with the replacement camp and thinking go with a cord mouse this time. Amazon here I come.

    Thanks again guys.

Sounds like you have the little gray job l have, (l think l payed about $35 for it) and it has a transparent drop in front of the lazer which is invisible to our eyes, (l bought it a few years back).

Yep Amazon is a good platform, even though a pain to to verify if it is in the US market or not.

I have a wireless red logitech mouse I've used for about 6 years - works fine on my desktop without any pad or whatever. I've been through a few batteries but this little mouse is a workaholic.

I needed a Keyboard about a year ago. Best Buy has this combo package by logitech, it is a keyboard and mouse together. When people talk Dongles around here, I have no clue what they are talking about. You do not need to know all the fancy terms. I purchase this combo linked below, the wireless mouse works great!

Link to Best Buy - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitec...?skuId=6215118 ( Not an affiliate link )

    Price - $49.99

Just a note it is rated as 4.6 out of 5 stars on the Best Buy website with over 5,200 reviews.

Yep, my mouse with dongle, (l have tried ones that don't have a dongle but they tend to end in tears).

Don - that mouse looks like the one I'm using - except I have a RED one (I'm fancy).

Ken - I'm another techtard but I have a method to my madness. If I go to a tech site or even amazon to find something as common as a 'mouse' I end up confused - too many options, too many prices, too many brands....

If I go to BestBuy or Walmart...what I see are a FEW of the more common/popular styles and brands in each price point. It's just easier to choose for me.

I will NEVER be 'tech savvy' because I find it boring so I never learn much about it....not good, but it is what it is.

Here is a non affiliate link to the mouse I have. It's the most comfortable to grip and responsive mouse I have ever owned. A little bit of luxury.

Yes, they have gotten faster since they fitted outriders to enhance the ball movement.
