Marvel Infinity War, What Gives

Just saw it for the third time on Showtime. Well, the last quarter of it, and the ending was different? Yes, they had the battle and a fair few of the Avengers turned to dust and Thanos lived? So what gives, directors cut? Would have made a much better case for a sequel/continuation movie I suppose.

I wonder how many times our resident Marvel Fanatic has seen it?

True it was a good movie, even though it took superhuman will power to watch another superhero movie.

Warning partial spoiler alert, although we have probably all seen it by now.

I saw the directors cut, or pretty sure, where Iron man gets his comeuppance, (which sucked) and they go back in time to find that the megalomaniac glove thingy is non refundable.

But it has a happy ending.

I'm just teasing, too.... I started watching Hocus Pocus 2 tonight so have no room to talk. Clearly, my taste isn't all that high brow.

Quit after about 15 minutes because dog kept growling at the screen - don't know what she didn't like but I'll finish to movie tomorrow.

The fact it made like 2 billion dollars at the box office made all the case needed for another movie. So far after endgame . Nothing has been worth rewatching

My fave movie 'review' of the week....is Eichner complaining that no one is watching 'Bros'. His reasoning is interesting...crazy, but interesting.

Well it's almost the same complaint that the woman king made at why people didn't go just a different slur.

How long can Hollywood and the entertainment industry lose money before they either go out of business or make stuff for a paying audience.

The paid streaming services are suffering as well .

I wouldn't go to see the movie if is was a traditional love story or romantic story between a man and a woman. Well last time I went to se a movie was guardians of the galaxy 2 . And then I don't think I had been to the movies sense 2013 when I was in the Philippines and it the2$ a ticket cost in the malls there made it easy to see a bunch of movie.

Philippines and Asia does the mall thing much better than the USA. Movie theater chain restaurants a grocery store and other shops in the malls.

I've seen it in theaters and several times on TV.

It's always the same. There are no director's cuts on this movie. There are deleted scenes they put on the DVD (I think), but there aren't versions of this movie out there.

Avengers Endgame is the second half of that movie. Maybe you are mixing the two movies up.

What differences in the movie do you think you are seeing?

By the way, I think I've seen 12 Angry Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Day The Earth Stood Still (the 1951 version), all the Godfather movies, and several great science fiction movies from the 1940s and 1950s.....dozens of times. Great movies are like great songs. You appreciate them every time.

And yes, The Avengers movies were all great.

    You are both right.

And they did do a different ending, with plenty of bread crumbs to give Iron man the option to return.

Ok, one hundred percent the ending fight sequence featuring all the Marvel characters and the warriors of Wakanda face off to Thanos and his hoards. Thanos is thwarted by Iron Man getting the last Infinity stone and Iron man dies. Thanos, along with his supporters club dissipates into ash.

But in this ending we see Thanos siting in a shack reflecting on his defeat. So what gives? No sequence of Iron mans wife saying goodbye to him before he dies.

I would check the video feed index to see if you didn't go back to the start before it cut out, (the start of the movie has him running his hands through the mutant wheat field, gloating over his victory in turning half of the human race into charcoal and turning Thor into a slob).

Can't get enough of the "Whiskers on Kittens" part in the Sound of Music thought!

Thanos wasn't reflecting on his defeat he was having a sentimental chat with little gamora about the cost of victory.

Remember he had to sacrifice his daughter the only thing he loved to get the soul stone. Infinity wars was actually more the story arch of thanos . Rather than just wiping out half of all life in the universe. He is doing it for the good of those who don't get snapped away.

That's right. Thanos had to sacrifice the only thing he loved (Gamorra), to get one of the stones. He truly believed that by ending half of all life, he was serving the greater good.

At the end of Infinity Wars, I saw him as a sympathetic character.
But by the end of Endgame, he decided to simply wipe out all life and start over.

Yeah, the main character in Aquaman said something like that, that as long as his opposition went for him first he could slash, stab shoot etc, as much as he liked since it didn't infringe his principles.

Reminds me of a scene in MASH where someone after killing a few enemies wants to write his Mother.

          Crazy.

Hall mark of a real villain. Imposing there ideas of what is best for everyone no matter how much suffering or worse off it leaves those someone claims to be saving.. especially when they really don't want anything to do with your solution.

The greater good allows people to do some pretty horrible things .

I didn't watch the eternals movie but it apparently did try to make the snap into an attempt of thanos trying to stop the celestial in earth from emerging and destroying the planet.which was kind of stated in the trailers for the film partly.

      Those are two different movies.

At the end of Infinity Wars, Wakanda and the Avengers fight Thanos' army, Thanos snaps his fingers, half the universe disappears, and Thanos sits on his garden planet satisfied.

In Avengers Endgame The remaining Avengers go back in time, get the Infinity Stones, and fight Thanos (a past version of him) again. Thanos and his army die at the end, as does Iron Man.

You watched both movies and remember them as one movie. It because in both movies there is an epic fight with Thanos. In the first movie, he wins, in the second movie he loses.

That scene from Avengers Endgame wasn't in any version of the movie. Nobody saw the movie with that scene included.

There is another scene, right after Iron Man sacrificed his life to save the universe...that all the heroes dropped to one knee to honor his sacrifice. Although a great and moving scene...it wasn't included in any version of the movie either. There was only one version released anywhere.

So, an extra movie was slotted in entirely without my permission and it had a remarkably similar ending, a big fight scene. I must admit I'm not an addict and as for following any sort of plotline, forget it. I can barely follow the dialog which as usual, is set really low.

All superhero movies have a big fight scene in the end.

Because these two movies are both Avenger movies...starring the Avengers......the Avengers are in a big fight scene in the end of both movies. By the way, they were based on a long series of comics called The Infinity Saga. Essentially, the first movie was the first half of the story, and the second movie was the second half of the story.

( I know that came across as sarcastic and condescending. I thought it was funny. I hope you do too)

If you read the original sacred text and that's what the narrative says, then what can I say! However, I speculate that our Lord and master, Mr Stanley Lee lifted the
idea of the fight scenes directly from The Lord Of The Rings which were made into several movies which were also interchangeable. There, I said it.

The story wasn't lifted from Lord of The Rings. And it wasn't written by Stan Lee. It was written in 1991 by Jim Starlin. I apologize. The comic story arc was called The Infinity Gauntlet, not The Infinity Saga.

In grand heroic stories, there is always an epic battle at the end. It's been like that before The Hobbit was written. It's been like that before Marvel existed.

Adventure stories always have epic battles between good and evil. And the biggest battle comes toward the end of the story. All of these stories follow the same general structure.

And when a story has to be broken down into two or more movies, each one has to have its own epic battle toward the end of the movie.

Originally, The Infinity Gauntlet was a six issue Marvel Comics story. Each issue had to have its own epic battle.

Heck, even professional wrestling follows this story structure.

Joseph Campbell wrote The Hero With A Thousand Faces in 1949. He described the 17 stages of a heroic adventure. Just about all stories with a hero (or heroes) follow this formula, whether intentionally or not. starting with Beowulf and Gilgamesh to today. All the same story....now with better special effects....and more capes.

To the average American, Marvel and DC are the equivalent to ancient greco-roman poetry. For them, It is the epitome of American culture, sophistication and soft power. Stan Lee is Homer, Socrates and Cicero all rolled up into one.
