    We have two cats.

We've had them for about 5 years. Very loving and entertaining animals.

The first one we got was from a shelter. I stuck my hand in the cage and he attacked it. I knew we were going to be friends. He sleeps with us every night, and leans against me the whole night.

He used to play fetch with me and we played hide and seek. A smart cat.

The other cat was feral, and lived behind our store with several other cats I fed every day.

One day I opened the door, and this kitten ran up to me and followed me around the store. A few minutes later, I picked him up and told my wife "Guess what we have now?"

His name is Sylvester (Silly for short), and he just loves being chased by the other cat, and playing with string...and he somehow believes that sunlight is alive...so he chases spots of light on the floors and walls. A laser pointer is his best friend.

We both truly love these cats. Not as much as each other, but they make us laugh.

Right now, Sylvester is sleeping on my desk, on a very comfortable pad.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Robert, I love this topic. Thanks.

I've got five fur babies (four dogs and a cat) that I adore.

Before we got married, my wife knew that I was a dog person. She swore that we would not under any circumstances ever have a dog. She lost a best friend, and it was hard on the whole family, so she figured staying away from them was better than getting your heart broken when they die.

I went along with her rule, the woman was more important than dogs, right? Interestingly enough, all five of our babies were her idea!!

The first dog was a stray we fell instantly in love with. We were thinking we needed money at the time so let's name her a lucky money name. So, we went with Pearl. Then the next dog, a wiener dog, was given to us and it was a wiener dog just like the friend she lost before. And he died just like the one before and I figured that was it no more dogs. But then we had a chance to replace that dog with his mother 妞妞(niuniu). Then later we had a chance to pick up two sisters from the same litter. The money name for Pearl didn't work out so well so we decided happiness was the next best option and named them Joy and 樂樂 (lele which means happy.) The cat had no name since we never gave her one but somehow kitty kitty became her name. LOL

Love them all like family. Pearl and 妞妞 are getting way old and the best way to get me down is to start thinking about living without them (or any of the others). They love me and don't care how fat I am or what I look like or my education or who I voted for or whatever else. They just love me for me. I think many of us could learn a few things from our best friends.

You hit it on the nail, Mark. It's really unconditional love they have for us. Quite amazing and you're right it is something we as humans could definitely learn from

Our Family Dog (Henry) was great as well. If I remember correctly, he was being "bullied" by other Dogs in the pound so Mum and Dad kind of rescued him.

They said that he wasn't kind to Cats but actually when our Cat (Angus) kind of "pawed" him, gentle little Henry just "cowered" and walked away.

Anyway, yeah he was a great little companion.

My latest rescue was a 'beagle mix' - rescued in West Virginia and shipped north and became 'Ginny' when I brought her home.

Had her DNA done this summer - and as you can see below, she's not a 'beagle' much at all....she's a bit of a DNA mess. But -she's still a sweetheart...and my 'velcro dog'.

We usually have 2 dogs and a cat but currently we have family staying with us with THEIR pets - so now we have 4 dogs and 2 cats. Amazingly, they are all well behaved and they get along great with each other.

I should add - 3 of the dogs are big dogs and then there is 35 lb Ginnie who is often leading the pack when they run out in the yard.
