A few of you may have noticed my absence recently. It was because I had a fall back in September, due to an abscess on my spine. It had to be surgically drained and I had other surgery and major health challenges, leading me several times to catch a glimpse of the Pearly Gates.

However, after 4 months in hospital, and lacking the confidence to return home to care for myself again in case I had another fall (I spent 40 hours on the floor before the doctor rang me as I just managed to get to my phone by a lot of crawling and resting in between).

So my new home is in an aged care facility (normally you must be 65+ and I was only 59 but had major medical needs such as access to medical care 24/7).

It's depressing in this place, where everything is regimented and I spend all day in "my room."

I have been here 4 weeks and am now wanting to find a little work to keep me occupied,

I wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope this one is better than the last one (for me anyway).

So sorry to hear this - 40 hours waiting for help? That's horrible.

I spend all day in "my room."

Taking on some work - or making some work for yourself - could change 'my room' into 'my sanctuary'....especially as you are younger than other residents.

Have you considered writing some Kindle books? You have the skills and the time to do that. They could be fiction or 'how to' books on various topics. You need something to get involved in to keep sharp and I'm sure you realize that.

leading me several times to catch a glimpse of the Pearly Gates.

Best viewed from a distance IMO.

Hey Laurence, I am so sorry about the health challenges you have had to face.

Good that everything seems stabilized now.

Just remember, as long as they keep the Off Topic forum open ( and Kay continues to put up with my nonsense) you have a place to come and never be alone or bored. We're all friends here

There you go again, bragging about your health and luxury living conditions.

Honestly, what a nightmare you went through. At least you are somewhere safe where you can be kept an eye on and looked after.

I am facing a bit of a self sufficiency struggle having recently having my right big toe amputated and being diagnosed with type two diabetes. Fortunately I can still walk though diabetic neuropathy makes it painful. And I feel sickly a lot of the time. It stifles my concentration and motivation.

Makes me wonder if living alone is a good idea now and may look into something that is at least assisted where you can be checked up on. I have a few good friends who care and am in regular contact with, but, if you have a fall and can't get to your phone, it could be 24 hours before lack of contact is noticed.

I wish you well and hope you can get your teeth into something. There are a number of channels on YT that have people showing you how to make money on the net but it is not your traditional IM, quite an eye opener and also, mostly free to do. PM me if your interested, will send you a link to one.

Always have an open mind but have also experienced a lot, so am wary of new ideas.

Actually there is stuff you may have never heard of before. I certainly had not and pretty straightforward. And, a fair bit is passive, let me know.
