Jimmy Savile on Netflix...

Watched a docuseries on him as he was a really famous DJ/ personality in Great Britain. But what a true psychopath. Amazing how this monster operated his child predatory scheme right under the nose of the British media.

I guess no one wanted to believe that this seemingly fun loving , eccentric character could do such ghastly deeds.

Really interesting Netflix series. I give it a 9 out of 10 stars.

When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, Savile was a regular on primetime TV and radio. The story only broke after he died and it seemed clear that the authorities - including those high up in the BBC - either knew about his activities or decided not to overturn any rocks.

Now, of course, clips featuring Savile are never shown or broadcast. There must be a ton of Top Of The Pops episodes gathering dust in some BBC warehouse somewhere.

There'll always be individuals like Savile. The real crime is when the establishment colludes on the cover-up.

By the way, I don't know how much of this is mentioned in the Netflix doc, but I have zero intention of watching it.

I would say the "real crime" is both Savile and the establishment cover up. Not just the establishment cover up .

And his case was unique and I do not see a case/individual quite like his every coming around again. The way it played out and the manner it did was truly inconceivable and one of a kind.

Yeah , what you mentioned here is nothing new as it was covered in detail in the docuseries and much more.

Gary Glitter's still alive, in jail, sis tells me they recently moved him to a different one. I think Rolf Harris is out of jail now. Don't know about Stuart Hall? A sizeable collection of UK mainstay celebs were investigated over similar accusations. Some others like Cliff Richard and Freddie Starr were cleared but are no longer active in public life due to them. I suppose that goes for Prince Andrew too.

Just the publicity they got from them is enough to ruin your career.

Added: You can still find some TOTP clips on YT featuring Savile.

      Ironic name really. Sa-Vile

Cliff Richard is not well known in the US except for the hit song, Devil Woman. Wonder how many people know about that information.

Then we have Bill Cosby here, such a great comedian, and role model for kids at one time. Now a disgraced individual. He was one of several people that Hollywood kept quiet about. Such a waste.

Maybe we can have more discussions like this in the Off Topic section. If they don't go down the political orconspiracy theory, rat holes.

Robert not sure if you would like it or not. Look for Navalny if it aires again. Here is the trailer -

Craig-McLachlan certainly acts like he is innocent, and then some.

Sure he could be acting but really there is acting and real life, acting you can sense that it is put on, this isn't put on.

Someone can pay off bimbos and they can destroy your life, shown by the first two examples you gave and others who were cleared.

And l agree it would be great to have a thread that actually stays open for the duration, so discussions could develop?

I admired Bill Cosby for a long time so when the stories came out, his fall came as a big disappointment. He had it all but wanted things he couldn't have so now he is nothing.

    Such a waste!

Yes, kind of similar to OJ as he is a joke. Shun from society and never looked at the same

I'm glad you guys brought these two cases up.

They are different in that OJ committed an act. The day before, he was innocent. The day after, he was guilty. And whether he was really guilty or not, his life was ruined.

But Cosby (and other repeat offenders like that)are different. They start out with small fantasies, they take small steps to fill a need they have. Eventually they grow accustomed to a certain behavior......and they escalate.

Eventually they are committing horrific acts that, to them, seem almost routine. Their behavior changes over time, usually many years. The reason we know that they know what they are doing is horrific...is that they hide it from the public.
