My version now I'm afraid is: "Life is like a Russell Stover sugar free assortment"

This pretty much does it for me, (least l hope so) or the answers to life the universe and everything is before our eyes, but we cannot see it, (my quote and no 42 jokes Mark).

This reminds me of the David lee Roth quote - 'Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.'

So all your most inspiring quotes come from the Marvel, DC or Star Wars Universe?

I suppose you would tell your customers when you sold them a Riccar: "With great suction power comes great responsibility"

I thought about this for a while. My dad had tons of sayings and maxims, but the saying that keeps popping up in my mind I learned from your friendly neighborhood wall crawler: "With great power comes great responsibility." That blew my little six year old mind and stayed with me ever since.

When I was maybe 7 years old, I played checkers with me dad. He always beat me, even later in life.

One day I started complaining that he was getting kinged more than I was. He said "Don't complain about the rules. Get better at the game".

I've thought about that quite a lot over the decades.

Chinese proverb - 'The journey is the reward'.

'Most people are walking around, umbilical cord in hand, looking for a new place to plug it in.' Dan Kennedy

My final choice may seem a bit strange and has a tl;dr backstory - it's from an episode of Ray Mears' Extreme Survival where this man was alone in a life raft on the Atlantic for weeks on end - but survived to tell the tale. He is surviving on fish he catches with a spear gun (and a water filter for drink) and at one point a speared fish punctures his raft with the spear tip. So he spends days on end diving in to the water, re-inflating his raft, partially fixing the leak with a makeshift bung then sitting in it for half an hour while it slowly deflates again before he once again has to repeat the whole tiresome procedure.

This ruins the daily routine he had created and he spends his half-hour rest periods soaking wet in a raft that is half full of water. This takes him to his lowest point mentally in the whole epxerience, he is on the verge of madness and on the verge of just giving up and allowing the ocean to swallow him up and end his nightmare.

At this point, he has a conversation with himself (there is obvs nobody else around except fish and they don't talk human) and he says to himself -

"John - you are doing the best you can in the circumstances."

It's hard to explain exactly why, but when you watch the TV programme and an actor plays out this ordeal while the story is being told, what John said to himself just seems really profound and resonated with me. And with the benefit of hindsight - knowing that he managed to survive such a terrible ordeal - I can't help but find that when I get myself into a right mess (this happens regularly), I often find myself repeating his words in my head - "Roger - you're doing the best you can in the circumstances."
