Antivirus System Pro = FAIL!

So yeah, while browsing the internet without the usual protection due to some networking issues I was having caused by the AV and firewall, I disabled them and forgot to enable them again after I was done. So I got to browsing the web to some sites which I know I need to have the protection on and low and behold, I got infected with a virus that is popping up with a security warning saying "Application cannot be executed. The file dllhost.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now? options are yes and no. I also have a big blue thing called "Antivirus System Pro" supposedly running an AV scan and finds basically everything is infected and tells me to buy that software to fix it. I am also a window in the system tray saying basically the same thing.

I googled "antivirus system pro" and found many ways to get rid of it, nevertheless after going through most of them, it's still there. I can get around registry, system files, etc and did what registry edits mentioned in many of the pages but on reboot it comes back up. Can you guys offer some wisdom if you've gone through it and gotten rid of it or know of a sure fireway other than format or a system restore. Somehow, my system restore was turned off. I know I had it on since I've used it before but I guess that's gone now too I tried it in safe mode as well with no avail. I appreciate your help.

Sorry bro, that's likely going to be a clean install to be sure it's gone. For future reference, I always store my goodies on an external to include any of my necessary exe files. Connect after startup and disconnect before shutting down.

Totally up to you, but I've wasted nearly half my life it seems trying to eradicate some POS spyware that just keeps coming back over and over again. I use every tool, every cleaner and every warning system you can imagine, but once the nasty is in the system it is damn near impossible to get it out 100%.

Let my pain, agony and repeated failures be your salvation.

My sister had the same program infect her PC. She called me as I used to fix these kinds of issues. Here's what worked:

Download and install Spybot Search & Destroy and its updates
Restart your computer in safe mode
Scan your computer with Spybot and delete whatever it finds
    Restart your computer normally.

Let me know how you go.

get this: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Reviews and free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware downloads at Download.com
install, then run in safe mode.
As far as the system restore, if it is turned off, you can always turn it back on,but you wont want to do this untill your system is clean, as system restore not only keeps a copy of your system settings, it will a lot of times also keep a copy of whatever has infected your system.

Well, not everything is working. IE8 has not been able to access the internet and some other programs as well. I uninstalled them and reinstalled them and they're not working. The virus/spyware seems to be gone as I haven't had any pop ups or anything else going on. Firefox does work sooo anyone have an idea what can be going on?

    Thanks,
    Oscar

What you see on the screen is generally 10% of what the malware is doing. Even if it shows clean, it likely installed multiple versions of itself that simply reinstall at boot up. IE not working indicates there are port issues or it has disabled a critical dll.

You know my opinion on this, wish I could help.

        Not a clean install!

Nothing a bit of hard work can't fix. As a PC maintenance engineer I encounter this every time my clients have a problem.

Try going through this whole manual. Starting at the section called clearing out the clutter. It will work. It's exactly how I do it when working.

I agree 100% and if Sleaklight were also a PC maintenance engineer that would have been my advice. My advice was for someone who could possibly, maybe, per chance miss that one thing after spending 6-8 hours of work and end up back at square one.
