I couldn't keep up my health and fitness if I didn't take it day by day...

I train really hard 6 days a week. But there is no way I could do it if I looked at the whole week in advance and analyze what I have to do to complete the week.

Rather , i just take it one day at a time. And solely concentrate on it in this manner. Breaking it in individual days really makes it doable.

That's my advice for staying fit and keeping on keeping on

Anyone have anything to add ???

    Plus you actually like running. You get something out of it. Besides the health benefits.

    There is a verity of healthy behaviors the best ones are the ones you will actually enjoy doing consistently. That you get a positive benefit from when you do it.

    There are healthy foods to eat you can enjoy eating regularly . Physical activity types of meditation. Pick the stuff from the healthy practices menu you enjoy doing.

    You need to cut out your running destinations being to fast food joints. That will help a lot. lol.

    If you go to work X days week, that is a routine you follow. So why could not running and getting up early for it be also part of your routine.

    The answer is of course the reward. You get money for working so you go. You have to look at running making you fit, slimmer and healthy as your reward.

        I did that, or used to. Not for the walk, just that I'm lousy at parking in tight spots between two cars, yes, I was that bad.

            Here's the perfect solution for you. Put coaster wheels on your couch and scooter your way along the road using each foot in turn. There's your exercise. Using that method you can go through the drive through at the fast food joint as well. Win, win.

    The issue:

    If you dont do exercises you enjoy at one point youre gonna stop.
    If your healthy food taste like crap youre just not gonna eat it.
    If your social life revolves around fat whales youre also gonna be a fat whale.

    and so on so forth. Its only a matter of time.

    It does take planning and organization to get going and avoid all the pitfalls but once its set up its not hard.

      In your opinion how overnight does someone have to be to be considered a fat whale.

      There is no such thing as healthy or unhealthy food .in the course of a week you either eat more calories than you burn as many or less.

      Any food you personally are prone to eating to much of can quickly go from beneficial to detrimental.

        What!! I expected a chiseled 6 pack by now last time l discussed this with you was 7 months ago.

        You haven't been sneaking some chocolate bars in?

        I prefer to just go on a perpetual diet and buy some cake when l start to suffer from withdraw symptoms and do Pilates/sorta gym twice a week.

        Lost a lot of weight since the start of last year and more so this with the added benefit of clearer skin.

        Although l am getting a good workout now with my car being repaired and having to walk more using buses to get around.

        Just need to watch out for the occasional mouse scurrying about under the bus stop seats.

      I'm far more for keeping the really important stuff in the top layer of conscious choice you make every day. There are many things it ok to put on auto pilot.

      Health practice you should consciously do for the way they make you feel today. If you excercize for the endocrine Rush and eat healthier food that tastes pretty good but has no negative digestive effects after your body adjust. Then also improve how healthy you feel. Hours after you eat.

    Me personally think that 6/7 days of working out is waaay to harsh on your body, if you have high goals and the time to invest then go ahead but if you want to get in shape and just be more fit with some steady visual progress, then 3 days of good workouts a week is more than enough, when training you need to remember that resting is as important if not even more important than the working out part

      I was reminded today why I do all this stuff to begin with as I was making deliveries to a nursing home.

      Well out in the parking lot there was a guy probably not much older than myself in a handicapped scooter smoking a cigareete. He finished and proceeded back inside the nursing home. Now I know exercising doesn't guarantee me from being in a similar situation but as I said earlier it betters my odds that I won't be

          Just went to my gastroenterologist yesterday. She said my liver enzymes and blood work was really good.

          The one "slight" thing she said my ultrasound found is I have a little stiffness in my liver. She said it was stage one fibrosis and nothing a good diet and losing weight couldn't take care of !!

          I was very pleased because about 6 years ago when I had double hip replacement surgery one report concerning my overall health said I had cirrhosis of the liver. Which thankfully I don't have BUT if I don't keep on top of it fibrosis could turn into cirrhosis.

          Overall, I was quite relieved with the visit

    A day at a time is sometimes too long for me. Not just for exercise but life. Sometimes I have to go by the hour or even 5 minutes. One step in front of another is all you have to focus on. If you can take that step, even if it's a tiny little baby step, you've made progress.

    Robert don't screw around with a "little fatty liver" because that can kill you. I know people whose doctors just kind of wrote it off as a little stiffness or a little fatty liver but it's normal everybody has it. Just do a little exercise and dieting and you'll be okay. The doctor didn't seem to be worried, so they weren't either. Yada yada yada a little fatty liver turned into waiting for a liver transplant. Nasty stuff.

    And with all your exercise, I'm surprised you have any fatty liver at all. Keep an eye on it man.

            IMHO, exercise shouldn't be a thing you need to 'take off from'...

            as in 'I take off the weekends'

            Over the years I've found a couple of things that always are true:

            1. If you overdo things, you'll burn out

            2. If you consider exercise a chore, you'll burn out

            I run first thing in the morning.

            It's a habit for me.

            I think one of the biggest problems with exercise is people don't do anything...then they want to do everything.

            Exercise is a lifestyle...

            it's not something you 'have to do'

            You need to start slow until you train your mind.

            As the saying goes: 'It's easy to train your body...training your mind is the hard part'

              I'm 56 with two hip replacements in the past and a stroke survivor so if taking off on weekends works for me for the next 30 years or so.. well then so be it.

              I know my body and mind is pretty damn strong when it comes to exercising. I'm intense and rather unrelenting !! My brother and father got me started working out with free weights in the Sumner of '82 and I haven't stopped since. I was a competitive powerlifter for a number of years. And I ran my first 10k back in 1977 at age 10 in 45 minutes and ran the same 10k race (Knoxville expo run) for 38 straight years (with an pr of 36:08 ) until I was nearly 50 years old.

              So Iam pretty good in the "mind" department, thank you very much

                You know what you're doing.

                When I say exercise should be a lifestyle...

                I mean it shouldn't be something that is strictly scheduled and planned. That was referring to a lot of people who haven't done anything, then suddenly feel the need to do everything.

                If one day they just decide to go for a walk...that's still exercise.

                If one day they decide to just shoot some hoops...that's still exercise.

                When it's a lifestyle, it's something a person does without a lot of planning.

                Sounds like you've got it down.

                  Kind of had an epiphany of sorts this week. On Monday started getting up at 4:45 am to exercise and it is like the difference between night and day.


                  When I was waking up and going to exercise at 7:15 am I was sluggish and totally unmotivated. It was really brutal. BUt now that I wake up at 4:45 am I feel totally motivated and feel that iam getting a jump on the whole World. Really refreshing and motivating

                    My favorite hour to start running is 5 a.m.

                    I plan to run 3 miles every day. But, I've discovered I don't really get warmed up until about mile 5.

                    There were days I'd run 10 miles...and that's at about a 7-minute-per-mile pace.

                    I'm at the point now where I limit myself to a long run one time a week.

                    I was running so much there were times when I would get done and the smell of ammonia was so strong it was burning my eyes...

                    I discovered it was because my body was burning protein because it had no more carbs to burn. I had to up my carb intake. Probably why some long-distance runners chug a beer when they get done running.

                    I don't even run anymore to stay in shape...

                    it clears my mind for the day.

                    There are days when I'll have tons of meetings. If I don't run I'll be sluggish and slow to think.

                    Probably just a mental thing.

                    There are some things in life that can really change your thinking.

                    Exercise is one.

                    Fasting is another.

                    A 10-day water fast will clear your mind like nothing I've ever experienced...

                    it gets your thinking on a level that is something that can't be described with words.

                    Physically and spiritually.

                    From your previous post it's obvious you've been at the exercise thing for a while.

                    I have found the same thing, not about exercise but how I feel and my productivity. 4:30-5:00 starts my best time of the day I believe. Starting at 7:00 AM just doesn't cut it anymore. It really is like night and day.
