Speaking of baseball - Sam retired

For 20 years before the start of a game at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio...Sam, a bald eagle flew from the outfield to the mound just before the start of the game.

Doing some refresher training yesterday, Sam had trouble finding his handler on the mound - and vets examined him to find he has cataracts in both eyes. He's making 1-2 more appearances but not flying again and will retire to the Cincinnati Zoo after this week. I only go to a couple games a year but I always look forward to Sam's flight - I'll miss him.

Probably the most interesting sports news I've seen in months.

I've never heard of Sam, probably because I normally don't follow baseball. Thanks for sharing. I love stories like this. It sounds like he's brought a lot of joy to a lot of people over the years.

It's called the 'Great American Ball Park' and Sam's flight was always at the end of the National Anthem that is played before the game.

Such a small thing - but he will be missed.
