Tried them today and even though l am no Apple fan l was blown away by them.

Just looking at an icon then doing some paper cut scissor gesture is enough to move about, and the 3D immersive video's are really impressive.

You cannot have two people in two countries sharing a high res, conversation of their backgrounds etc, but you can take video of your childrens party and send it.

One minute l was in Africa with some elephants, (this is high res, probably 4k and the next underwater with some sharks, all on an IMAX wrap around screen.

These things are not perfect with a 6k price tag heavy weight and you need to make the head bands really tight so every thing is focused.

But all things considered blown away everyone needs to book in and try them.

There's this other really cool thing in 3D and it's free, It's called reality.

Of course you have to get off the couch to enjoy it so I guess that leaves most of the population of Earth out.

For me that's a good thing - far fewer idiots out in the National forest!

Yes but reality has a high price tag not to mention probably having to become a lab rat to leave my country.

This thing l was in Paris, (4k 3D wrap around screen which is 100% immersive unless you turn your head too much) looking at the Effiel Tower one minute and watching a tite-rope walker in between two rocks with a sheer drop of half a mile the next.

Sure it is no substitute for the real thing but it is revolutionary, the 3D is flawless, (you use the device to capture 3D video) l was in a room with a jazz singer and could look around.

Anyway you sourpusses need to hold your skepticism and just try it, (book in at an apple store with your name and give yourself half an hour).

You obviously have not tried any other VR devices before. If you had, you would know that the Metaquest 3 at $499.00 is a superb and far more versatile and useful unit. The Apple device is a damp squib by comparison, way, way overpriced had limited sales and no-one is developing any apps for it. A total flop.

It was never actually meant for the mainstream market anyway. They were hoping it would be used for more serious applications, perhaps that's why they put such a crazy price on it.

As a Quest 3 user, I can highly recommend it. And before you say anything about getting a Apple VR unit, to run apps like photoshop, forget it. It is a strain to wear either unit for a great deal of time and trying to do intricate work on it like photoshop you would get tired very quickly using one compared with doing it on a computer.

No, and l did take a look at your suggestion and it is great for games and taking photos and is probably half as heavy as the apple one is but...

The Apple strength is taking 3D video which is IMAX immersive or the same as your suggestion except that it moves.

Just go and give it a go Mark, the 4k 3D immersive video capability is revolutionary and will allow handicapped people globally a way of experiencing things that would be difficult or impossible normally.

And l appreciate your direct Photoshop comments, or better to get a warning than get thrown off a cliff!

Their are already hand held camera's for making VR stuff. otherwise their would be none. It's not revolutionary. Prices vary but start cheap. Google VR camera's. The AV Pro or Quest is really just for playback. Wearing one to make the movie is not desirable and an uncomfortable and expensive way of doing it.

You will notice with the Quest that the field of vision is considerably wider than the AV Pro. And, you can get 4k playback on it.

Great to get a demo on the Pro, I'm sure you were impressed, but two hours later, you will want to throw the thing off your head and take a long break, just enough to watch a movie, VR clips or have a gaming session. To do anything else, I will wait for improvements in lightweight glasses.

The VR Pro is really just an Apple ecosystem that you wear on your head.

I hear murmurs that Apple are shortly to bring out a headset for the mass consumer market for around $1500.00. would hold fire and look at that.

It has also been reported that AV Pro's are getting cracks in the unit's frontal part that are not due to miss-use. Many people who have purchased one have returned them in the grace period. Had my Quest for a year now, no real problems. You will notice that despite the fanfare Apple made on release, they have gone really quiet on VR, lol. They were said to have made 800,000 units and sold less than half. Most likely due to the ridiculous price.

Yeah, know all about that or they were hoping to break even with the VR Pro,s because of mass production issues with the micro LED issue, but came in at a loss, (tried trading Apple but too crazy for my liking).

Or the only reason Apple is profitable based on earning reports is their customer base, (customers willing to pay up to 15k annually so the can sit at their long tables and get help).
