The Fear Of The Failing Phone

The other day I dropped my trusty android phone of 5 years, my only phone and lifeline, it went onto a laminate wood floor, it was in its leather padded wallet type case with a magnetic clasp . But, just a few times after checking it, came up with a message that the sim card was not connected, but that went away and all has been well since.

I do not receive that many calls or texts from friends or family (many are deceased) but I certainly use it for things like extra security logins to banking, notifications, even to open the gates at my apartment complex, calling an Uber etc. When you add up what you use it for and the convenience it brings. It's mindboggling how useful and essential it has become. And how inconvenient it would be to lose access to it all. Even for a short time.

So, are you feeling the same about ever losing or breaking this often indispensable item?

I have six phones, combination of landlines and cell phones.

I would never rely on just one cell phone.

Most people have more than one phone.

Get with the program and get an extra cell phone.

Consumer Cellular charges $20 a month.

Join AARP and get the old people discount.

I remember losing one of my phones some months back. Though it was sort of my backup phone, I felt lost without it for days.

I have a cheap clam shell phone so if l drop that l expect it won't work and l would have to pull the Sim and get another which is no big deal.

I would miss my small tablet far more since it has my stock market data on it and has my trading app on it so l can place a trade, etc.

Which is indispensable while out to check on how it is going and buy or sell when the power is out or when l am out, (l carry a dongle in my bag since public wifi isn't safe and l cannot access it with my trading platform anyway).

I also have a cheap smart phone, (standard size touch screen, etc) but it is Simless or l only use it to bridge my smart watch to my account which alerts me to price points, (this isn't some Galaxy $1000 watch, but sufficient).

Funnily enough l have dropped my tablet several times with thankfully no problems.

How hard would it be to get another newer phone and add it to your current plan.
It's good to get another one up and running and it is not expensive for the convenience. Especially if you are easily able to keep devices for many years

Two years ago my phone setting somehow changed. I could dial out but anyone who called got a busy signal. I thought the spam callers had all been blocked, with the peace and quiet. Finally, my friend texted me and said he tried to call a few times and was getting annoyed.

I Ended up calling T-Mobile the tech suggested a complete reset to the original configuration. That solved the issue. It was nice while it lasted, if there was an emergency that would have been a different story.

I had that happen 7 years ago when l signed up for a few online casino's sites, (they spam the s... out of you) and was forced to change my mobile number to get away from it.

The new number is fine apart from some Chinese woman occasionally leaving messages, (feel like Tom Cruise out of that movie where he changes eyeballs).

The other day a friend called round and we went out for a meal and shop. Not far away from my place on the way out I thought, fiddlesticks, I left my phone behind.

Oh well I thought, no big deal. There were two things I had forgotten though. My phone operated the electronic gates to my apartment complex, not really a huge deal. as the traffic in and out of those gates was fairly frequent. As it turned out, had no wait to get back in.

But the second was that my friend dropped me off outside the food store entrance so I could go in and shop and park up nearby and wait, when I was ready, I would text them and they would drive up. But when I got in the store I realized, no phone. I had told them I had left my phone at home but would they remember. When I came out, I could not find them nearby, it was dark too. After about 20 minutes, they drove up. Relief.

Two simple things that makes this device indispensable.
