I applaud your efforts. I made the mistake of never going to the doc to check for stuff like this, never even considered it. When I got divorced I went mad drinking sugary drinks and eating unhealthy foods and choccy bars etc. Great until I got neuropathy in my feet, got a lesion on my right toe and had to have it amputated. I was then told I have type 2 diabetes. Then a year later, despite cutting out sugar almost entirely, I got congenital heart failure and had to have a stent put in which literally saved my life.

All caused by type 2 and all my own fault. Had to cut back on salt for my heart, so a frugal diet ensues, repetitive yes, but I have learned to like it and can do variations and occasionally treat myself. I have to take pills for my heart, which has reflated quite a lot but not to it's optimum size. They check me every six months and apart from a slightly leaky heart valve am doing well.

I never feel 100 percent though like I used too, once you cross that boundary and get it, (Type 2) it's for life and will shorten it. But, I control its effects with diet and don't need insulin or any other medication for it.

So, keep up the good work Robert, eat well and right most of the time and exercise like you are doing, you should keep it at bay.

Congrats on the A1c drop, that's a solid achievement! Dropping that much weight since last July is no small thing either, definitely something to be proud of. Just don't let that sundae turn into a weekly habit

Congrats! Dropping your A1c from 5.8 to 5.4 is a huge achievement -- officially out of the prediabetic range and into the clear! Losing nearly 40 pounds since last July clearly made a big difference. Enjoy that celebratory sundae -- you've earned it!
