Wow, it's that time again. Can you believe it ?? College football starts this month.

And getting right into it, will Dan's buckeyes repeat with a another national championship ? I think they have a legit shot at it.No question.

And can Don's Scarlet Knights improve upon their 7-6 record the past two years ?? I will be rooting for em'.

Finally, lets see how those Seminoles do , and I expect Mark's team to bounce back with a big winning record this year.

Hope y'all ready!!

Btw, my Vols are trying to sort out and firmly establish a new QB ever since Iamleava left for the west coast a couple of months ago.. Coach Heupal has his hands full but I think he will be successful in choosing the right one for the job.

Anyway, cheers to a great season and to the other rest of you guys here who like College football lets hear your enthusiasm and what team you
are rooting for

The Buckeyes are a question mark. A great deal of talent left for the NFL (14 players taken in the draft) and they will have a new, inexperienced QB.

I can see a playoff run, but will they have the firepower to get to the Championship game?

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Meh. sandbagger Dan as OSU come December is 12-0.

i apologize Mark i should know more about FSU schedule ,after all im the one to start the thread. But I did not realize your first game is Bama August 30th. Holy sh@t!!! What a way to start.
          Good lord

Well iam getting a funny feeling that this game will be closer than most people think. Dare i say an upset in the making ??

it behooves my Vols to have Bama win but iam going out on a crazy ass limb and say FSU beats Bama 21-17 in the upset at home. I think a team can get beat down so bad that they become dangerous and frustrated in a productive way! Everyone's thinking blowout but the ' beaten dog will snap back' , imho. You heard it here first

They have lost their best player to the NFL. I have not followed the changes they have made during the Sumer. Looking forward to hopefully a better record! I will root for all your teams, unless they play Rutgers.

It's going to be harder for any team to win two National Championships in a row. Now that college football has playoffs and players jump to the NFL. If OSU does it again, that would be great to see. Good luck to everyone this season.

  • After the worst record in school history last year, every bit of gloat that has naturally been part of my life for the last almost 50 years has been taken away. I feel like I literally can't say a word about anybody until I see whether anything is different this year.

With new OC and DC coordinators and a seemingly fairly good haul from the transfer portal and recruiting I HOPE things are better. But at this point, Mike Norvell is on the Willie Taggart timeline.

Mark the date October 4 in Doak Campbell (Tallahassee). If we lose that game and if nothing has turned around in the previous 4 games against Alabama (L), East Texas A&M (W), Kent State (W), Virginia (W), he needs a one way ticket out of town. And fast!

FSU fans are like the Buckeye and some other team's fans: we ain't going to put up with this level of idiocy.

    Good luck to everyone!

    Mark

PS Of course, if we come within 4 TDs of Alabama, I'll be back with the gloating. LOL

Regarding the Michigan sign stealing punishment: the NCAA is a feckless husk of an organization that should just limp off into the woods, sit down beneath a tree, a die.

Yep, this is unadulterated BS. They had no problems taking wins from FSU and many others, but now they don't want to impact any student athletes for cheating. What is about not wanting any consequences for bad behavior these days? That's your national champions, boys. Just go cheat like them, and you can do good too!

The NCAA has less and less reason to exist.

  • Here we go!

    Rutgers vs. Ohio
    Tennessee vs. ACC powerhouse Syracuse
My beloved Noles vs. the Crimson Tide (ouch, need to stock up on bandages I'll need from hitting my head on the table 42 times during the game )
But the biggest so far has got to be #1 Texas vs. #3 Ohio State.

    Good luck to all!

They did good scoring-wise. The defense needs to perform a lot better, or they will get crushed in division play.

Congratulations, everyone, on your wins this weekend. Enjoy your Labor Day!

yeah 4th and 6 and they throw the TD. But Georgia does that shit all the time. So it wasn't luck. Hats off to them carrying big balls like that

College Gameday is in Miami for Miami-Florida game. Should be a blowout for the hurricanes.

      Mark your thoughts ??

  • The best of all worlds normally would be for both of them to lose.

    However, this year...

I can't bring myself to say it directly, so, I'll have to use a different way. Imagine in 2 weeks the #5 Seminoles played the #4 Hurricanes. That might be a game to pay attention to. And, unfortunately that can only happen with two undefeated teams. So, what that means for this weekend is, well, you get the picture.

Seriously, I'm not sure we'll face Billy Napier. He's on thin ground but beating Miami would win him a few points. I don't think he can do it though. Miami BIG.

Well, that was a tough loss. Rutgers tried their best last night, but it just wasn't enough. Iowa overpowered them in the end. One of the announcers said when Rutgers scored their second touchdown. That was the most points they put up against Iowa in history. Next week, they head to Minnesota.

Just saw this on Reddit, the UAB guy intentionally stomped on the kicker on your team, Robert. https://www.reddit.com/r/sports/comm...of_tennessees/

I have spent more time watching the NFL this season because Saturdays have been busy. Rutgers has lost to all the Big Guns so far this year. They play Purdue on Saturday, then face Illinois, both are away games. Rutgers is 3-4, and Purdue is 2-5. Hopefully, they can add a win this weekend.

What has been interesting is watching CJ Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, Kyle Monangai, and a few other young former CFL players developing in the pros. In the future, these players are going to become big stars in the leagues. Hopefully, all 3 mentioned above get a Super Bowl ring in their future.

Good luck to your teams this weekend!

It appears Clase was the ringleader of that cheating scandal. Not only are both going to get a lifetime ban, they're probably looking at prison time, as well. Based on the indictment, they've got them dead to rights. If they avoid jail time, it's because they have money. Well, Clase has money. Ortiz, not so much.

The Buckeyes play UCLA this weekend and Rutgers on 11/22. Good luck either way.

Rutgers played Penn State and was leading in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, while driving down the field, Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis fumbled the ball. The mistake cost them the game.

They did have one chance to get the ball back when PSU went for a pass on 4th and long. They chased the QB in the backfield, tackled him, only to have someone hold a receiver to draw a flag. With that, PSU took its time to chew up the clock. PSU 40 Rutgers 36. Losing at home, finishing 5-7.

I caught the last Quarter of the Texas vs Texas A&M game on Friday night. How does Texas think they belong in the CFL Playoffs, just because they lost to OSU by 7 points earlier in the Season! The Texas coach, after winning the game, and the announcers said they should be considered. The 9-3 record doesn't match those with better records.

Two more surprises today with Oregon and Indiana. Some thought Indiana wasn't "real" when compared to a traditional power like Alabama, even after beating Ohio State. I guess Indiana had the answer. And, when does Texas Tech NOT score?

My Jan 2 post says Indiana vs Ole Miss was wrong; however, I said Indiana will take all, and will stand by it. I think the score in the final game will not be as low as Robert is predicting. I think both sides will put at least 21 points on the scoreboard.

The New York Jets were rumored to be looking at Moore from Oregon as the #2 pick last night in the NFL draft. Because their QB situation is as bad as the Raiders'. I think the announcers are right, Moore will spend another year in college after last night.

Hope the championship game is worth watching on the 19th (for Mark, a blowout ;>)) for fans, something going down to the last few seconds to end a close one.

That was a good finish. I was glad Miami didn't get a touchdown in the last few seconds.
The interception sealed the deal for Indy. However, afterward, there was a flag. Why didn't they show the penalty that put the ball half the distance to the goal?

GF is into NCAA football so this was the first year I really got into it (Go Vols).
We watched quite a few games, mostly with the very nice Sling Day Pass. Shout out to that, five bucks for HD coverage and way less than a movie. Plus you get to sit at home and enjoy the creature comforts.

We even saw one game at a drive-in theater. My first time at one of those...they didn't have any around where I grew up.

These games are fun to watch and you can definitely see the difference between NCAA and NFL play. First time I saw an NFL game after a few college matches, I thought, "These are MEN."

And yes i would definitely agree NFL and college is a big difference. Even a bigger difference is NBA and college basketball. I love my vols but compared to my San Antonio Spurs it's like 10 olds vs 20 yr olds. The discrepancy in their shooting accuracy is mind boggling. The Pros are spot on every shot whereas the college basketball players are so inconsistent!

Dan's Buckeyes go to champaign to face the tough illini ( which in my opinion should be the host of gameday)

Bama goes to Mizzou and faces an undefeated and hungry team

My Vols hosts the razorbacks that may
be tougher than their record indicates

Don's Scarlet knights go to Washington to face a tough Huskies team

and Mark's Seminoles hosts the pitt panthers in a game that i think they will bounce back with a convincing win

Where does the parity (at least more parity than before) come from? NIL $$? That quote has always been true. I remember FSU when they were great for years, every once in a while they'd get their cans kicked big time by someone like NC State or Wake Forest. But it seems it's happening more across the board.

Looks like Bowl games are in trouble. Notre Dame decided not to play in one. Several other teams have also declined. Rutgers, with a record of 5-7, was invited to play in one over the weekend. They were not bowl eligible after losing to Penn State. They declined the offer. Now, since college football has playoffs, teams do not want to play. Does this mean that in another year or two, they may no longer exist? Or will the number of bowl games decrease? Let's face once the season is over with a losing record, most of the players are done.

I have always thought that a 6-5 or even 7-4 team doesn't deserve bowl games. To me, make it something special. Anyone with barely a winning record shouldn't be able to go. Have an 8-3 minimum, and then they might be special again.

As far as the CFP goes, the two teams with most favored status (especially next year, where ND is basically guaranteed a spot) are ND and Alabama. Alabama lost to one of the worst teams (FSU) by a blowout and then lost 2 more games, and they are still one of the 12 best? They gotta get in every year because of Bear Bryant, Nick Saban, and just because?

      It's crazy.

      Mark

Edit: Don, they offered FSU a bowl game too which was declined. FSU should NOT be going to any bowl games until they get their act togeether and look more like winners.

I don't follow James Madison, Tulane, or the playoff setup close enough. However, after looking at an article on SI just now. It seems like Notre Dame got the raw deal. It is the same point in the comment about Rutgers being asked to a bowl game. The weaker teams do not belong in the bigger games.

The NFL, when it only played 14 games and fewer teams, was probably the best setup going in all the sports. Wild Card team vs Wild Card team in the first weekend of playoffs. The Wildcard winner then plays the team with the best record in the division. Everything is a money grab at this point. Between the Bowls games and the College Football playoffs. Better teams with worse records get excluded, while inferior teams playing in weaker divisions get to play in lopsided games. Just my observation. I want to see the best of the best play in the final rounds. Or scrap the playoffs and return to the regular tradional bowel games.

Good finish to last night's Fiesta Bowl between Ole Miss and Miami. Miami is playing top-notch football. The running game was spot on last night. If they play the same way in the final game. They will wear the other team's defense down.

Since they won last night, they have a big advantage playing at home. Whoever wins tonight's game is going to face a tough opponent.

    It's set: Indiana vs. Miami

Miami has a ____ team, but I can't see them beating Indiana. From everything I've seen this year, Indiana is the real deal. The problem with big years like this for most nontraditional powers is that it only lasts for a year.

    Who you got?

One of the things I hope they fix is that there are too many bowls. I remember when, for example, FSU went something like 8-3 many years ago, and they were not invited to a bowl. Now with a required win # of 6 only, many mediocre or even bad teams are getting bowl bids. Heck, I mentioned before that this year FSU was even offered a bid since others dropped out.

Make bowl season special again and let the season end right around NYD. January 20 for the final is too long, in my opinion.

I agree, Don I hope it's a good game. I hate blowouts in championship games, even the finals.

It's nice to see the "underdog" excel sometimes, and Indiana did it better than anyone else this year. I think it would be good for college football, in general, if they could make a run lasting more than a year. Most of the time it's impossible, but they built this team with no 5 stars, so we'll see.
