Discalimer This is not advice, don't do it! Okay, ok, we see all the how to get rich quick schemes or how to make money online threads. People want to use AI or make money using ChatGPT. One of the Senior members on the forum was even discussing the use of AI to pick lottery numbers a while back. It finally happened in real life. This was on ABC World News Tonight.

This woman was lucky to use ChatGPT to win the Lottery - https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...y/86802999007/

Quote from the article - "Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that's what I thought I'd won," she said. "It wasn't until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000! "

Maybe she'll sell a WSO here as a guide to how she did it.

I saw the tail end of this news story while I was channel
surfing the morning news. It is wonderful that this lady
won the prize, but I'll bet there are thousands of people
who used ChatGPT lotto numbers that didn't win squat.

I wonder what makes having AI choose numbers different from just having quick pick option.

ChatGPT could research previous winning numbers,
frequency certain numbers are drawn, etc. it might
have reasoning for why it chooses the numbers.

If you play quick picks every time you buy lotto, it
decreases your odds of winning, so it's better to
play the same set of numbers.

I read that in a lotto book years ago.

It's interesting. Chat GPT may actually pick numbers based on previous winning numbers, I have no idea. But the previous winning numbers have no correlation, or influence, on future random numbers selected by the lotto machines.

That's intuitive to think that, or to write that in a book. I thought the same thing for years.

But there is no pattern. There is no influence of past numbers on future winning numbers.

If you flip a coin and it lands on heads 1,000 times in a row, the odds are still 50/50 on the next flip. The same with lotto winning. And any number you play always has a one in 292,201,338 chance of winning. Never more, never less.

An interesting aside. Years ago, the lottery winnings were enough to justify just buying every possible lottery number, and then just win.

A large group of investors did just that. They were able to buy 80% of the possible lottery numbers, and won. It very quickly became illegal to do that, as it was a near foolproof way to win (assuming the pot was big enough).

What Chat GPT is capable of doing is finding lots of posted messages, books, and articles where people said they had a system, and repeating it.

            Hello Claude!

            I hope you're doing okay.

Yes, I'm aware that all numbers and combinations
thereof have the same chance of winning as any
other numbers, but there are certain numbers that
are drawn more often than others.

            I scraped this from Google:

"According to Powerball.net, the most common
winning main numbers over the last decade are:
            61 (113 times)
            21 (112 times)
            23 (110 times)
            33 (108 times)
            69 (107 times)
            63 (104 times)"

Here in TX when the lotto first started, back in the
90s, the first winner was a woman who researched
the winningest numbers of other state's lottos and
she played those numbers and won.

Another thing about quick picks that I read in that
lotto book, they said it's better to choose your own
numbers, because if there's some kind of glitch in
the lotto quick pick system, lottery officials could
            deny your winning claim.

Mebbe if'n Chat GPT could dream of the high life -- luxyooriatin' out on a private yacht, fine wine & caviar to die for, endless massages by teams of priapic hunks (etc) -- it would have its heart in the game.

As it is, it runs round all ovah like a dahg chasin' a bone don't actschlly know what a bone is.

ABC usually does a "feel" good type of story in the last few minutes of the news

I met a few hard-core lottery players in my area at a coffee shop that sells tickets. Some of them try using different patterns to win. One person used the number on a prescription pill as one of his Pick-3 numbers every day. I never understood why they chose that.

With the number of gamblers out there with an addiction. I would not be surprised if a few will try to copy the lady's luck.

A large part of our brain is dedicated to pattern recognition. It's how we recognize faces.

But with this comes the side effect of wanting to see a pattern. And then creating a pattern where one doesn't exist. It's why we see animals in clouds, constellations in stars, and faces on toast.

      Anyway, it's a theory.

I'm still in Las Vegas lots of gambling no lottery. . It's the casinos using AI to make the money from people as most slots and many other games are now video game style.

Where it does work is not really helpful to the players.

That's probably the future of AI considering who is developing it and who is investing in it

I think this is more luck than chatgpt. I'm not sure it can predict what number will come next from a random collection.

AI can't predict or guarantee lottery wins, because lotteries are designed to be completely random. No pattern, algorithm, or amount of data analysis can reliably forecast future winning numbers, every draw is independent of previous ones.

I have looked into this lottery thing for more hours than I ever should have, trying to put together an AI program to predict the numbers...I even did a post on it.

There is no way AI can predict the correct numbers.

Even if you took the numbers that were drawn the most...they're still pulled with numbers that haven't been drawn that much, which makes the most drawn numbers irrelevant. So, that myth is just that, a myth.

There is no way to predict the numbers. I went back years to test different hypotheses to see if they played out...they never did.

So, if you want to play the lottery, just realize it's luck and have fun doing it

Yup. And Las Vegas casinos just love gamblers that have "A fool proof system to beat the odds".

Wild story, but honestly just pure luck -- not a strategy. AI can help with a lot of things, but predicting lottery numbers isn't one of them. Fun headline, sure, but definitely not something to rely on or repeat.
