Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Goals? What Goals? We don't need no stinking Goals ;>)

The other day, there was a commercial saying. By now, most resolutions have failed.

I took my last set of outside lights out of the ground and put everything in the attic on Wednesday. Today back to win chills in the 20's

By the way, do you know why the years seem to go by faster as you age?

Because every year slowly becomes a smaller percentage of the time you have been alive.
And...the past grows in years, and the future shrinks in years. So we perceive every passing year as shorter, because it's a shorter part of our lives.

Sorry, I just love hearing myself talk.

I try to look at every day as a fresh start. I'm just as likely to start working on a big goal on a Wednesday, the 17th, or whatever, instead of waiting until a certain time to get started.
So, I've already had 16 fresh starts this year, and I'm making progress in the right direction. I've gone from 1 step forward and 2 steps back to the much improved 2 steps forward and 6 steps back! I've doubled my forward progress.

Seems Capricorns are on a roll, that's for sure.

Thing is tho, 'goals' are such a meandrin' horizonal summons.

    An' I get it.

Year ends. We all fowkiss on The Big Transform. Then the pre-Chrissmuss pulse of our regulah rhythm kicks in.

tbh it is mid-Janyoory's jahb to shake out the last of the Old World from us as hibernatin' mammals worldwide plan their outfits for Spring.

As a ditzily delish yogah gal, ima inclined to say you gotta find yrself sweet in alla yr moments.

So many 'goals' seemta zap you this way without it evah happnin'.

    Chasin'. Strivin'. FFS evin Pumpin'.

You get that in yr head, you cain't evah settle on nuthin'.

Like a buttahfly wants only perfectest neckteurre, an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs an' fluttahs around till'n

    *ZOINKS*

janno muh wings done in an' I gotta fall to Earth an' snuff out.

Evry mid Janyoory is pre- sum unyethappined tamara.

Sure, coiffyoored baboons of maxo demise gonna seek to thwartya with all imbecile schemes ... an' you can nevah predict when unseemly rashes gonna break out on your most sensitive areas, demandin' all kindsa weirdsy creems (plus also weirdsy creem applicayschwaah techniques) ... so I guess the only person you can meaningfully cast, heart an' soul, inta the fyootyoore is YOU.

Which, actschly, means MOI in this instance.

Likely I will move around sum tamara.

    Walk. Breathe. Try on outfits.

If I am fortunate/unfortunate, I may muse on this in a consequenshwaahl/unconsequenschwaahl cuppacity.

An' here will be my deeds as done, my goals manifested for now.

Sumtimes the faraway, unattainabyool horizon is kinda jus' here.

Very kind of you to ask.
I'm writing again. So that takes up most of my mental effort. And I exercise.

Four months ago, I weighed nearly 285. Today I'm down to about 247, and I am going to get down to under 200 later this year. And I exercise every day for about an hour.

So I'm perpetually sore. Eventually, that will go away.

            I don't mind being 71 years old....but I hate feeling like I'm 71 years old.

And....I may want to start dating again. I haven't decided yet.

And what are you doing today? I understand you are getting the brunt of this storm.

Hey Claude thanks for asking. Friday-Sunday are my off days from exercising. We had some ice and temp in low 30s. so right now as we speak we are watching Hallmark . In about 2 hours or so we will watch the NFL playoffs.

Have any of you heard about the 75 Hard challenge. There are 5 rules I think. One of them is that you have to go outside and do exercise for an hour, or something similar to this. It could be walking, running, jumping rope, whatever. But you are expected to do it even if it's pouring down rain or a blizzard or 3 feet of fresh snow on the ground. If you don't follow all the rules every day for 75 days, you have to start over.

In some ways that is extreme. In other ways, people that are "important" to our safety and health such as firefighters, soldiers, police, etc. have to be out in it no matter what.

In the face of this kind of weather where you must go outside if doing 75 Hard, would you do it? Could you? Is the discipline that might be gained worth it?

Considering last year, it got bitterly cold, plus snow. I moved my walking indoors. Last Spring I missed a few days and got out of the habit. With Shoveling in the snow yesterday and today, the 75 would be a good start. However, knowing myself and the forecast for the next several days. No thanks ;>) Plus I'm a few years older than Robert.

If anything, the NJ 250 challenge would be something I might consider. Reduced to the 25-mile challenge.

"The New Jersey State Park Celebrate 250 Challenge includes five different challenges focused on physical and mental wellness. These challenges, which were designed to engage visitors of all ages and abilities, can be completed at any of New Jersey's state parks, forests, recreation areas or historic sites.

There are endless opportunities to complete the challenge throughout the state, from spending 25 minutes outdoors a week to hiking 25 different trails in a year. Participants looking for the ultimate challenge can pledge to move 250 miles in 2026, an average of just under five miles per week. More casual visitors can aim to complete 25 miles in a year, or alternatively, a steady pace of 2.5 miles per week.

Choose a challenge and get moving! " https://dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/g...-6b50fa52-8c63

I think the key to all positive change is to pick something that needs to be improved and get moving. That works for business, health, fitness, relationships, finances, and everything else. And we can do that no matter the date on the calendar.

spot on , Mark. My Mom will be 91 next month and she is still zooming around town in her toyota Rav. She says the key is to continue remaining active and stay moving. To not just settle on the couch all day. To keep on keeping on and to always maintain a positive attitude

When I was in my 20s, my Kung Fu training had me outside every day for a couple of hours. I wore shoes to keep my feet dry, but it was sometimes bitterly cold. But...with enough effort exerted, your body will keep warm no matter how cold it gets.

And working out in the heat? or rain? it's just a matter of concentration. If there was lightning, I came inside.

Would I do the same thing today? No. Never. There used to be a measure of Machismo...fueled by blind ego that made me do really stupid things in training.

Working out in the bitter cold? I suspect the cold negated some of the benefits of training.

And...those days of near limitless endurance are gone forever.

No matter what you do, weight training, cardio, bodybuilding....at 80, we all look the same. And I can see 80 right up ahead.

Ay, to be 25 again . It's weird but when you actually are that age you think life is gonna last forever and that you will be 25 forever.

But then again there are things i did at 23-25 that i cannot fathom for a second why i did them. Just knucklehead type stuff lol.

Mark, I should seriously use that advice!

Robert, glad your Mom is still capable of driving. My Mom had Dementia at 88, and my Aunt, her older sister, is in memory care.

Speaking of time flying. Last week, the Dermatologist said, " Come back in 4 weeks". When they went to schedule the next appointment, they had to schedule me for the following week, in March. Then you realize how close we are to Spring.

I won't miss this brutal cold! 10F degrees earlier.

      Embrace the grind.
Imho, that's what you have to do to have long term success with exercising and staying in shape .

One way to stay motivated is doing impromptu exercise outside your structured exercise via micro sets. Example would be taking the stairs on your apartment building and running up them, Currently, i do real quick crunches right before i go to bed. But there is literally thousands of things you can do to achieve this impromptu training.
Another example would be to aggressively shovel snow in your driveway in intervals of 5 minutes .

I've created so much in the last 30 days.
    Released a new book.
    Started a Substack.
Worked on and learned more about 2D animation.
Made my first 3D video animation (much easier than the 2D).
A new YouTube channel about a well-known gameshow.

I'm sure I forgot about some others. And then there are the things I haven't finished.
Biggest of all are a much meatier book, and a sort of documentary of abandoned barns, stores, bars, and outbuildings in NC and VA. That second one, I don't think city people have seen these. I certainly didn't in my first 34 years of life. Been collecting video for nearly all of last year, different seasons.

Just about to get hit with round 2 of the eastern storm.
    If the power stays on, I'll probably finish a big 2D War of the Worlds clip I'm replicating.}
Will make that in 3D later so I can learn more about Blender.

Clients are moving along with sales training & coaching, operations improvement, introducing AI into many of their processes including quoting and inventory management (with human oversight...it's not ready to fully take over), IT infrastructure improvement, and so on.

Been a busy first month of 2026.

        Thanks, Claude.

Are you guys interested in the animation at all?

I started by learning 2D and have just been getting into 3D video generation. The old school 2D has taught me a lot and I see more like a director than a motion animator, if that makes sense.

This is the thing I've had the weirdest reactions about. People who've known me for a long time, friends & family included, and put me in the "business guy" box. They don't know what to do about it. Somehow it gets translated as a loss of status for me...which is weird, because if I say, "I'm an author," or "Here's a painting I did," they know what to do with that socially. But over the last year when I've been on a Zoom call with a business person who knows me, all I've gotten is a blank stare. No words. Family has shrugged it off without comment as well. Even my closest friend. It has been pretty painful and I haven't found a place where an appreciative audience exists.

IDK if you guys know I have a space and defense show...over the past year I really upped the game. It's on YouTube, channel is Cold Star Space and Defense.

EDIT: Let me know if so and I'll post some

Same here. I'm a salesman...to my bones. I lived, breathed, and studied selling my entire adult life. But when I said I was a salesman, it was always seen as a negative, no matter who I told.

So....I started saying I was a business owner...or an author, depending on who was asking. I just made sure I didn't elaborate too much.

And my Dad...always thought what I did was shady. .and I'd hear "When are you going to get a real job?" from him and all my relatives (Me being the only one in sales, or owning my own business). Even when they could see I was making more money than anyone with a "real job" (which to them meant working in a machine shop).

But when I opened my first retail store, he understood what that was. And he would brag about his son, the store owner.

Decades ago, I was sitting in a bar and a woman sat next to me. She asked me what I did, and I said "I sell high end vacuum cleaners in people's homes".

She said "How do you make money doing that?"

I said "I sell them for more than I pay for them"

          Said asked "Is that legal?".

It was around that time that I realized that most people have no idea what selling really is, or how it works. And that includes most salespeople I've met.

Wow some people !! But i can up even that one Claude.A few yeas ago in Knoxville I was standing at a bar leaning on the railing looking out at the dance floor. And started talking to a young lady. She said she owned a local water bottling company. The kind where she delivered tanks of bottled water to businesses . Just a little small business. She asked what i do and at the time i was heavily invested in the stock market. She asked some more about it and I explained that the stock market contained businesses that you invest money in. And then with a straight face looked into my eyes and she asked if i could check to see if her small mom and pop business was listed on the stock market.

She was dead serious about it too lol

When I hear a story like that...or think of my own experiences like that....I wonder what dreadfully ignorant question I've asked to someone who knows their subject...even the 20 year old at Best Buy.

My Mom had a woman stay with her years ago, to help take care of my Mom.

They went to the ATM and my Mom used her card to get money out.....The girl was astounded that you could just get money out of the bank. My Mom had to explain to her that you had to have money in your account before you could take it out.

In the past decades I've had several people (some relatives) ask me how we made a living in our store if we weren't employees.

I don't think these people are stupid, they are just now aware of how something works. And.....When you don't know...you don't know.

I still don't know how to use a cell phone, or text, or take a picture with my phone.

No. I've never taken a video with my phone. I used to use a Flip video camera and uploaded the video to Youtube. But I've never used a phone.

My Sister-in-law will show me how to use my cell phone to take photos and videos.

I know it's easy to do, but I just need her to show me how.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

  • And now, 1/12th of the year is gone. I'm nowhere near accomplishing 1/12 of the things I planned to do. This is how you get behind, and it all starts adding up to the point of being overwhelmed, which can lead to regrets if you don't push through and try to salvage your plans and goals.

Or at least that's true for me.
