Yesterday the World Cup started. Who are you rooting for? Who do you think will get to the finals? Are any games near where you live? Are you going to watch any of the games? Are you going in person?

    I didn't get a chance to answer(LoL).

There are multiple games throughout the Summer in 16 different locations--several NFL Stadiums--Miami, LA, Dallas, etc. Then they narrow down to fewer locations for the Quarter Finals. The finals are being played in the Meadowlands (Giants Stadium).

The knockout rounds begin this week. The US plays Bosnia on July 1st @ 8pm EDT

Some interesting facts: the Norway team went viral with their Rowing Ritual. You can see pictures of it on some sites and in the news.

the US was outmanned and outclassed, simple as that. We are just not a soccer nation and contrary to what many have said Soccer just never materialized among our youth like baseball or american football.

i remember playing ayso soccer back in 77' as a fourth grader. Everyone at that time said Soccer would overtake baseball as the most popular played and watched sport in America.

But it never happened and never will imho!!

I'm a bit shocked by the Spanish national team right now. But overall there are a lot of great teams, it will be interesting to watch. There's still suspense

Given how Spain started, they don't have many chances

Not sure, but as a tribute to Ronaldo I wouldn't mind -- it's a good team

Belgium was given a big incentive to win after the red card reversal. It doesn't surprise me one bit that they won. From what I have seen, FIFA has had plenty of criticism over the years.

"We are just not a soccer nation." With that said, I agree with that to a large extent. Being a few years older, the statements have been around for decades. However, the town I grew up in. Football had multiple Little League teams till kids reached the Junior and High School level.

What happened Soccer teams started being formed to give more kids a chance to play in sports. I played in little league football one year. Then, when I got to Junior high, I joined the soccer team. At that time, there was no Little League soccer. After graduating, a few years later. The Little Leagues had formed in the town, while Little League Football lost teams.

Part of it was a population change, fewer children (Post Baby Boomers), and the other part was that you didn't have to be as big and strong to play the sport. I don't think you will replace Football, Baseball, or Basketball because or poularity or the action in those sports. There are shifts in this country because demographics have slowly changed.

The World Cup final game is being played in the Meadowlands on Sunday. Good thing they are not playing today (Friday) or Saturday. Heavy smoke from the Canadian Wildfires is causing poor air quality alerts today and in the 90s. Saturday is supposed to be rainy with thunderstorms. Sunday is going to be nice in the low 80s with sunshine.

I don't care who wins, since England was eliminated. Argentina fans acted like jerks, trashing a flag representing England in NYC after Argentina won. Giants and Jets fans don't act that way. They renamed the stadium for this series and laid grass down. I hope they leave it instead of Astro turf, but I doubt that.

The only Messi who is worth mentioning is Mark Messier, former player for the NHL Rangers ;>)

A Long game went into overtime. Plus a halftime show to mimic the NFL. And a camera hog after the game. I only saw the game highlights on the News. Spain won, and fans were partying afterwards in the area at local venues.

Speaking of grass, FIFA is selling pitches after the game. They expect to make 11.2 million from sales. Meanwhile, our state paid $13.04 million to put down the turf and maintain it. That means back to artificial turf for the fall. At least College and the NFL start soon. It's time to dig up portions of my backyard and sell Jersey Grass. ;>) Then create a WSO on how I make a fortune in my backyard.

    Congratulations to Spain, the Winners.

I enjoyed the World Cup more than I expected to. Overall, the matches were pretty good, and I was pleasantly surprised by how many of the so-called smaller teams often outplayed the big boys.

Those who don't watch the sport regularly might not be aware, but the officials' response to the practice of diving and feigning injuries (basically, the refs just ignored them) was a breath of fresh air. If only that would continue into the forthcoming national domestic seasons.

Watching on TV, to me the behaviour of the fans and the general atmosphere in the grounds and across the host countries appeared to be mostly friendly and enthusiastic. The stadiums (which I recognized from following the NFL) looked fantastic.

On the downside, the sport's world governing body, FIFA, did nothing to repair its already tarnished reputation. The introduction of hydration (commercial) breaks during the games didn't sit well with fans. And there may be a falling out between FIFA and the European governing body UEFA over some decisions made during the tournament. The UEFA president boycotted the final as a protest.

Nevertheless, congrats to the USA, Canada and Mexico for putting on a great show.

yeah, they used to won WC back in 2014. Which under coach Joachim Löw. Lol he always stiff himself perhaps is magic. Actually he is one of my fav coach beside Jose the Special one.

Nevertheless is always like that, come WC or Euro Champhionship. Surely there will be one or two strong teams you feel they can make it to at least Q final or S final even final but knock out in group stage.

Whereas surely there will be one or two weak team surprising go through the group stages.
