The Geminid Meteor Shower

The Geminid meteor shower will be seen in the whole sky, so it doesn't really matter which way you're pointed. If you look straight at the radiant, you'll see meteors coming directly toward you, bright but with short trails. Look the opposite way, and you'll see lots of long meteors moving away.

    Interesting Paul.
I saw a shooting star last night that was a little different from what I've seen in the past.

It's about the right time of the year. We'll be hearing jingle bells soon.

Is it just me, or was the following more confusing than it had to be?

The shower should peak around 5am GMT on the morning of the 14th, corresponding to midnight EST and on the 13th at 9pm PST
Could somebody please translate? I haven't had enough coffee yet.

Sounds like it will be worth watching.

The Perseids a few months ago were pretty good, too.

Wouldn't you know it - the skies out here in ID have a lot of clearing to do before I see anything. I remember back in 98 when a shower came through that was supposed to be the strongest in almost forever -- and the sky completely clouded over and we couldn't see a thing.

Still plenty of time for it to clear up today. Since it's been cloudy 3 days running, we stand a good chance of squeezing some bare sky this time.

    Here's hoping for clear skies.

For those who got socked in or just couldn't get out to see it, here's a little treat for you:

What a bummer - I have a great telescope - and the fog is thick as pea soup tonight. Poopers.

Never cleared up here either, Kay. I just went out and shoveled a sidewalk hoping to get a glimpse or two. Oh well - the sidewalk is clear even if the sky isn't.

Holy Cow, I just watched some of the biggest streakers I've ever seen in this shower.

Watched it for about 45 minutes and they just kept coming.

      Totally awsome display....

Dammit... I deliberately got up at 5 a.m. to see them and it was cloudy. Couldn't see a thing, and then couldn't get back to sleep, and am now walking about like a bleary-eyed zombie.
