It's always a slow news day as you see tripe like this all the time. One example is the Tiger Woods debacle. Who really cares? Does Tiger Woods cheating no his wife truly affect your life? Not a bit.

he's a half-a$$ed r&b singer who's only real 'claim to fame' is that he beat the hell out of Rhinna (his gf at the time) last year before an awards show. He's a punk and thats probably why places wont carry his records.

Funny thing, at least in MY area when I was a kid, any male hitting a female was looked at with great disdain EVEN by his peers!!!! It didn't make you look better or stronger. It made you look like some JERK that just wanted to attack people that were less likely to fight back, etc... And NOW, some women almost act like it is EXPECTED! If he finds it SO hard to be civil with a woman, WHY did he marry one!?!?!?

I don't REALLY know what the rant was, but it seems like he wants more respect, and isn't getting it after hitting Rhinna(sp?). HEY, if that hurt his reputation, I, for one, am HAPPY!

In MY area its no different. I have no problem going at a guy for hitting a female. Saw it too much when i was younger, have no stomach for it now.

I dont think he's actually married. They were dating at the time, and he threw her a pretty good beating. He needs to have his ass beat.

I couldn't dream, in a million years, ever laying a hand on a woman unless
she was coming after me with a lead pipe and a machine gun.

Of course by then, I'd probably be dead before I lifted a finger.

But I mean, how much of a low life do you have to be to hit a woman?

Heck, one time, when I was a kid, we were playing army and there was this
one girl playing with us. My rifle accidentally fell out of my hands and hit
her in the head. She was laying in the grass at the time.

I was absolutely beside myself. I don't think I'd ever been more upset about
anything in my life. I must have apologized to her 10 times.

      Hit a woman?

The guy should be locked up in a cell with a cell mate named Bubba.

See how he likes being HIS bitch for a few days.

Personally I deplore anyone who kicks the crap out of another person REGARDLESS of the the sex of the victim and for that alone I wouldn't buy one of this idiots crappy records.

I've never understood people who view it as evil to hit a woman but don't really care if a guy hits another guy. In the name of gender equality I think that assault is assault and should be regarded as the same thing for both females and males

And anyone who thinks that women are too weak to defend themselves needs to stop stereotyping, I have a sister who teaches hand to hand combat to soldiers for a living

Yes, but the average woman can not beat the average guy.

On average a woman can't stand up to a man in a fight...its just nature. We're just bigger and stronger.

And no, its not the same thing. Because of the average female's lighter bone density and overall mass, a punch from a good sized guy will do way more damage to a female than that same punch would do to a male.

There's a reason why you dont see many women fighters. They got the brains, we got the brawn.

My better-half has a background in both the military and law enforcement. I don't even know most of what she did in the military, but I do know that, even though I am much bigger than her, and, in fact was also trained by my government masters in the art of beating people up too, she could still quite easily kick seven different colours of shi.te outa me if she wanted to. Failing that, she could simply gut me like a fish (as she's pretty handy with a knife too).

However, she IS an exception (albeit a lovely one though ).

The reason hitting a woman (as opposed to another man) is such a taboo in our society is the inequity of the confrontation. In general, MOST men ARE naturally bigger and stronger than MOST women (and, in general (again) are naturally more aggressive than women anyway). For that reason, the average man has a better chance of defending himself against an attack by another (average) man than the average woman does and, rightly-or-wrongly, the less capable a victim of an assualt was/is of defending themselves, the dimmer the view taken of it by the law and society in general.

      Tommy.

You're right about that. I actually feel the SAME way.

BTW the AVERAGE woman is only 70% as strong as the AVERAGE man. Of course, a woman could be FAR stronger than the average man, etc... It is NO secret, in the US, that standards of many areas, police, firefighters, etc... were LOWERED so more women had a chance.

So the stereotypes ARE right and PROVEN, but that doesn't mean that a woman has no chance of beating a man in a fair fight. AND, of course, there are always LESS than fair where a woman has a good chance.

Guys take their chances when they do this now days - I was hit once when I was 21 and went straight into Modern Arnis martial arts training. Figured I might get swung at again, but at least I could do as much damage as the asshole that tried it.

My grandmother had warned me that there were guys like that out there, but growing up as sheltered from that stuff as I did (my parents gave Leave it to Beaver's a good run for their money) until I got hit myself, I always thought that only happened in the ghettos.

Anyway - my late fiancee and I got in a tiff once and he threatened to hit me -- never came close, never tried, but it came out of his mouth. He fell asleep on the couch later and I stuck two match sticks in his socks and lit them. He came up off the couch screaming. I just smiled and told him "so if you ever think you wanna hit me again, remember that I can stay awake longer than you can". Problem solved. He never even dared to mention that it ever crossed his mind when he got peeved with me.

I worked in a sexual assault crisis center for a few years and was pretty good at helping the women normalize again.........but then they brought in domestic abuse and I couldn't get my head around a woman staying with a guy that would hit her. Intellectually I knew the drill, low esteem, brainwashing, fear.......but emotionally I never got with the program. Once the mgmt called me on the carpet for chewing out a support group for getting addicted to sympathy and doing nothing real about it.

Anyway.......in the long run, guys like that are absolutely psychotic..they will use anything they think is in their power to dominate any person or situation they can..not just women. Until enough women learn how to level a dude for even trying to smack them and until WOMEN get very loud about not wanting anything to do with them, they are going to find other guys who think just like they do and respect them for it.
I am thinking that if millions of women had written to this guy, called him a coward and that they refused to ever buy anything else of his, he might have gotten more of a message that this incident might better be left in the closet.

      I did it once.

      - I was 17, my gal was 16.

      - I saw a guy slap his gal around on TV the night before.

      When we got together...

      - I picked a fight and slapped my gal a couple times. ( not very hard and open handed )

      - She left in a huff.

      - A couple days later her bigger male cousin came to visit me.

      - Extremely lucky for me, he only told me that he liked me but he would not allow me to hit on his cousin - again.

      - I apologized to him and later to her and that was the end of it.

      - My family found out about it and didn't really speak to me for about a week in which I was also slapped upside the head least 30 times by numerous family members.

      Since then...

      - I've never even thought of raising my hand at another woman again.

      - I thought about what happened and realized I was influenced by what I saw on TV.

Yea, but who wants to get into real fights over stupid things like hitting females?

I don't approve of what Chris Brown did nor do I know all the facts surrounding the incident (it seems most people on this thread don't either) but there are definately quite a few situations where I would react to a female in the same way I would react to a male without thinking twice about it.

Alot of guys talk alot about what they wouldn't do and that any guy who does should be killed or locked up (lol good for you) but I know and have seen alot of girls/women who bank on this way of thinking to disrespect or humiliate you. I won't list the circumstances under which I would react this way but they are all of a reactive nature and would be wether it was a male or a female.

I mean really what was the fight for equality for women really about? Only for when it is an advantage but not a disadvantage?

My point is that people focus too much on the fact that he did it to a female more than anything else, there are stronger and weaker people in both genders.

I'll agree that there are some women out there that will knock you the hell out if they have the first shot, but i highly doubt its going to be that 20 year old 115lb female from barbados.

And I also agree that there are certain circumstances that a guy has to do what a guy has to do, but even in those circumstances or unless she's some kind of ninja assasin, you dont go at a woman full bore, its a matter or character.

Good thing you don't live in Ireland. We have some of the most disrespectful mail in the world here. For example, I passed a postbox earlier today, and this grubby little manilla-envelope that was sticking out of it (with a scrawled address and a third-class stamp, no less) called me an arsehole for no reason.

Gee, Thomas - I gotta say, as much as I try to conduct myself with a ladylike decorum - I'd have torn that mail up good - chewed up and spat out. And I'd not have blushed once doing it either.

I think what Metaphors is getting at is the fact that some women think that just because a guy is not supposed to, and is looked down on for, hitting women that they have a right to smack a guy up all they want and have no like retaliation for it.

When the guy is touching and shouldn't be or calling the woman filthy names....sometimes if she doesn't physically retaliate with a slap, the guy will take it as an invitation to truly abuse her - I've seen plenty of rapes happen because the woman didn't stand up for herself. A normal guy will understand that he transgressed and apologize. A sicko will find out she's not easy prey and will leave her alone or hit back. A woman that smacks someone without just provocation, however, loses her right not to be hit.
That doesn't mean a guy has to level her, bust her neck, arms, back, knock out teeth, etc....just that if you are randomly attacked that you should be able to bitch-slap her off of you with no repercussions.

If I hit a man for no reason I'd expect a backhanded cuff from his direction. Respect is respect - I don't care who you are.

Yeah - the average man is bigger than the average female...and pound per pound, built more for aggression than women. If you have a man and a woman with equal fighting skills going head on head, strength alone can be bad news for the woman. But there are ways to use that size against a person, too...........and if some 6'2" piece of demolition machinery is giving me a headache, I'd sure hate to rely on any strength to save my butt. Ouch.

oh, and women aren't gonna feel obliged to fight fair when their safety is at stake, and some of us are known to be outrageously crafty in a pinch. LOL.

Ok My thing is this... If you are a female and you hit a dude, or think about hitting a dude then you should only expect to get hit back....

The only reason why the whole Chris Brown stuff was a big deal was because they are celebrities... People go through it every day and if a woman seriously just punches you in the face and you think she is going to stop after she did that then you've got another thing coming.

I'm not sure how a lot of you folks grew up, but women are definitely more lethal than guys because then other things come into play like knives and matches between toes lol... but I just think everyone should think before hitting anyone in general...

You certainly have a point. Look at the bobbitts! John and Lorena Bobbitt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia YIKES! And lorena apparently gave excuses earlier that were not NEARLY so reasonable. Besides, it has been my experience that most females really AREN'T that good at determining what ssomeone did, etc... That is no sexist insult, MALES aren't either. The difference is that many females may figure they KNOW what happened, and react. It could be anything from a minor argument/accusation to FAR worse.

I'm sure MOST males put up with MOST of it, but some things probably get hard to deal with.

I'm gender-blind. If I'd hit a man for something, I'll hit a woman for it. Not that I go around hitting people, but if you cross the line to the point that I'd hit you - which isn't easy - I don't care if you're male or female. It's simply not relevant.

Wanna talk legal? Ever heard of a woman pushing a guy's buttons purposely so he will take a swing at her? Soon as that guy takes that swing, he's jail material. I'm sure if women do that, guys do it too. I'm also sure that is what one man in my past was up to. You can't follow someone around for hours every day nagging and screaming over nothing and anything you can think of and not expect to be hit for it sooner or later. I wear a golden halo for not falling to the urge. I also avoided becoming a convict too.
Of course, most men would probably feel very silly in court pointing at a small woman and telling the judge "your honor, she beat me up" and a lot of women probably use that as leverage to wail on someone without just cause.

Moral of that story is that is someone is making you so mad that you know you're going to lose it.........the only answer is to get, and stay, away from that person.

Now I don't know what the story is behind that Movie star getting beat up before the award, but from his attitude about someone not selling his records I'd say he probably was guilty of just being an abuser. I never heard anything about her taking the first shot -- if she didn't take the first shot and he just had it with her, and he had been a real man - he would have just left her. Period. Thinking you can just beat someone into obedience is what a psychopath or slaver thinks, and what one is. Laws are a waste for those types, bullets work better.

With MEN, it is not open and shut, so they generally don't see that as an option.

Did you ever see "Love Stinks"? It is about a woman that tricks the man into a situation that she is then able to claim is proof that they are married. She THEN manages to get almost everything he has, destroy his entire life, and close almost any avenue of escape.

Towards the end, he comes up with a plan to trick her into giving everything up. LUCKILY, she tries to kill him and ends up losing her freedom also.

Anyway, my point is that she had SO many more options. Frankly, I was SHOCKED at the ending. If I were her though, I would argue that he didn't get fair value, and maintained control, and it is possible nothing would have changed. Though I would have argued the SAME thing with "The first wives club", it wouldn't play as well with the MAN pleading it. And HEY, look at liar liar!

Love his music. I am a big fan of his music but hitting a woman is wrong. Only a coward does that. Women should be loved and treated with respect..
