Yeah. I kinda like that line in it "You come from nothing, you return to nothing. So what have you lost? Nothing!" Looked at from that perspective, you could say ANYTHING you have, especially LIFE, is therefore a stupendous plus!

The world has gorn mad, but hey it's all a Big Show!

Heheh I guess you aren't a fan of Monty Python then? It's from the Life Of Brian and they sing that when they are all being crucified at the end. That version is funnier but I didn't want to offend any religious people, as some people apparently think it blasphemous.

Must be an English thing; we tend to start singing that when life is bitchslapping us. And the poor Yanks are certainly being slapped around at the moment.

All I know is any 'lightness' works a little, corny or not.

The rest of the time I am literally so angry that I am tongue tied today.

I have tried 6 times to respond to the latest thread about the latest 'conspiracy' that is as serious as a fricking heart attack.

I just can't articulate how much I hate both political parties and every branch of "government".

I guess forgiveness is the opposite of hate and anger, but I am not there yet...

Patrician why are you so angry?! Don't have a heart attack now, you know anger can exacerbate heart problems. Wow, then I should already be dead by now lol Well use the off topic forum as a therapy session, it will help I've used it as free therapy lol

Phnx, it seems that a bank (Bradford and Bingley) has just failed in the UK. You will certainly need this as well.

I certainly need this as there was a run on my bank in Hong Kong just last week. Not only that, the Lehman collapse has become a real political issue here. It seems that lots of banks, chief among them HSBC, has convinced a lot of individuals to buy bonds issued by Lehman. Many of them are retirees who have put most of their savings into them. There are now almost daily demonstrations.

LOL, AG, 'Serious as a heart attack' is just an expression - Thank you for your concern, though. I don't have heart problems at least physiologically.

I am angry because of this financial crisis and even more about the proposed 'solutions' that are like a slap in the face, dog and pony show politics (smoke and mirrors).

Actually it is a paradox, the OT forum: I have never been interested in politics and have learned more in the OT than ever before about 'events'.

At the same time learning all this is pissing me off beyond belief. Before I just knew it was all a farce but now I know it is far worse. It is an actual nightmare you can't wake up from.

Well thanks for listening - at least I am not tongue tied - but I have to admit if I said what I think I could be arrested right now.

    Take care.

      Nice one Lee :0)

Another quote from the papers somewhere recently .....

" I was born with nothing ... and still have most of it"

The Bradford and Bingley bank in the UK has not
collapsed, but will shortly be taken into "protective
custody" by the UK Gov before being sold on to
approved buyers with the clients protected. The B&B
specialised in a type of mortgage almost unheard of
in the US and known as a "Buy to let" which for
some reason was considered more risky than a
resident owner mortgage. This left the B&B at the
mercy of speculators and panic withdrawals much
      like some similar US situations/solutions.

Another intriguing quote on TV was made by a female
(German? or EU?) Finance Minister who said that
"the EU would be seeking to "de-couple" to some
extent from the US economy and $US with stronger
and European regulation". Maybe the Euro has come of age?

France has a banking system sooo prudent and alien to
citizens of other countries, including the UK, that it has
escaped almost intact ...relatively speaking. China has
stepped back from the abyss. Russia simply turns MICEX
off and on as it sees fit ...and has just announced a massive
re-armament programme. South America seems to be turning
to greater degrees of socialism and becoming good buddies with
      Iran, China and Russia.

Gordon Brown seems on one hand to be rushing to back the
US salvage operation ... while also pressing for some globally
acceptable standard banking regulation standards. As the latter
will de facto be the lowest common denominator .... and probably
much less than many nations implement domestically, it will be
intriguing to see which way he eventually jumps if push comes to shove.

Either way, its not looking too great for either the US or the UK
currently ... bailout or no bailout! New Zealand and Ireland are
in recession officially .... plus others who stick their heads in the
      sand and deny it.

Don't you just get the sinking feeling that any US bailout
will just be another feeding frenzy by Big Money like Iraq is/was????
"The fat lady" seems nowhere to be seen.

On a lighter note, on the outside of my bunker window for the
last couple of weeks there has been a large fat spider sitting
in the middle of a beautiful stereotypical wagon-wheel web.
Just sits there waiting patiently for the odd meal to arrive.
I have named this spider Warren Buffet lol ....which seemed
appropriate in a quirky British humour way

Unfortunately, the Chinese government has just approved margin lending and short selling of stocks, the very measures that will make its stockmarket more volatile.

On a another note, a person had been arrested for allegedly spreading rumours that led to the run on the Bank of East Asia.

Good article Mike, but it was wrong on a couple of points and easy to see it wasn't written by a redneck.
We are a fiercely independent lot who do love America and will die defending it from anyone who threatens us, including our own government.
It's us rednecks who continue to run stills and grow some of the best damn pot you'll ever smoke. Why? Because it's our heritage and God given right to do so.
We live in our own world most of the time and really don't give a rats ass about the rest of the world. It was the New Hampshire rednecks who gave us our mantra, like Potty Parrot says "Live Free, or Die".

We won't bother you as long as you don't bother us, but if you do be prepared to have your ass whooped.
Where McCain screwed up was thinking rednecks give a damn about who is president. We really don't as long as whoever is president doesn't think they can control or regulate us.
We've been at war with the government since we've had one and that won't change anytime soon.
Do we care that Wall Street is tanking? Hell no.
Do we think we should bail it out? Hell no.
As long as we have land to farm and hunt (and we don't have to own it) and a stream to fish we will survive, cause surviving is what we know how to do.

Those in power always say the economy is sound, recesion what recession, we shouldn't talk ourselves into a recession.

Now what we are hearing are the most alarmist stuff from Bush, Paulson, and Bernake. I would be surprised if the average person is not rattled and start reining in his/her spending and lower the asking price of their houses as well.

From what I've been hearing the average person is really pissed and letting their representatives know.
One congresswomen said she has received over 20,000 emails telling her not to bail out Wall Street and another congressman said his emails have been 1,000 to 1 against the bail out.

      Not even close
I'm born and raised in the country of upstate New York from the little farming town Brunswick. If you look at the first picture on this page
      Brunswick History
you will get an idea of where I grew up. That's Tommy Patton's farm which is one of the two farms (Hap Cranston's was the other) where I milked cows. I also worked a couple of hay farms that where around me.
Redneck is a state of mind not a location.

LOL Annoyed Girl - if you don't think there are rednecks out west, you haven't traveled enough. One of the most fun fights I ever saw was in Central East Oregon - a guy called a woman "corn fed" and her husband happened to be sitting right down the counter. Hahahahahahahaha.

Go to Wyoming or Idaho and you have states full of red necks - and only a few last names. Yep - red necks are all over this country. We may be thankful for that someday.

Are you serious? There is some absolutely breathtaking land in both of those states - and still a lot of wide open country without "NO TRESSPASSING" signs posted everywhere. There are several areas of both states I would consider it fortunate (and have) to live in. I can see myself going back to one of them some day.
