Non political question about US political parties

Throughout the world red is seen as the colour of the liberal/socialist/left parties, and blue is the colour of the conservative/capitalist/right parties.

Is there a reason why it's the other way round in the US?

Just curious that's all.

Might have had its origins with the civil war...Blue North, and they were probably seen as the progressives back then, so the color was kinda taken at that point.

From wikipedia: (real easy to find)

"This unofficial system of political colors used in the United States is the reverse of that in most other long-established democracies, where blue represents right-wing and conservative parties, while red represents left-wing and socialist parties."

"... red and blue became fixed in the media and in many people's minds, despite the fact that no "official" color choices had been made by the parties."

red was always like China or Russia when I was coming up.

and they used to call Hippies "Commie Pinkos' because they wouldn't go to war and fight the commies.

'better dead than red' was the cold war chant

    'peace and love' is groovy.

We are having a "Blue Moon" December 31, 2009.

two full moons in one month.

i don't have an epemeris but I figure it has to be a capricorn sun's full moon would be in the opposite sign, Cancer the moon. The first one was Sagitarius sun/Gemini moon

When I was born it was a Cancer sun and full moon in Capricorn.

Gee maybe it will be an epiphany!

Also a partial eclipse but it won't be visible from North America. boo.
