There is no such thing as a stupid question. Is that true ?

That's what they ALWAYS say at this forum.

So it looks like it's true.

And everyone agrees.

Correct ?

Well if so there was no point in me asking.

Therefore I have just asked a stupid question.

Well, from a job I work at, here is a question I've been asked...

"What time is the 3:30pm parade?"

    IMO, that's a stupid question.

I've been asked to return computer files that were delivered by mistake.

As in, I ordered a report on subject A, but they sent me a report on subject B. So I complained, and before sending the report on subject A, they insisted I attach the report on subject B to an email and send it back.

I've heard the same story from several other people.

I keep toying with the idea of making that a requirement for refunds, when the refunder was clearly just trying to get free product.

"If you want a refund, I need you to send back the file you downloaded. Just attach it to an email. Okay, yeah, I got the email... but it's not the original file. It's just a copy. I can't issue a refund on a copy; I mean, you couldn't go ask for your money back from a bookstore and hand them photocopies of the book, right? I need you to send the actual, original file. The one you downloaded."

Eventually, the refunder would go completely bonkers and say "I CAN'T DO THAT! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" and I could say "Ahh... so what have we learned today, grasshopper?"

After your op I was going to accuse you of talking to yourself - you asked the question and then set about answering it yourself.

Now I'm really worried. You're talking to an autoresponder?

LMAO... If you're talking with your autoresponder then it's agreed.... you definitely need to get out more Harvey.

Now, if your autoresponder is talking to YOU then that's just freaky. Unless of course it's telling you secrets of world domination or something. Then that's not only freaky but scary freaky.

But scary freaky can be a good thing! You know, like when people go streaking down the middle of the highway on New Years. That's more like funny freaky. Or scary funny freaky. Or something.

OK, I'm done now. Stop talking to your autoresponder!

Being an employee in a large retail establishment where every employee wears the same uniform, usually very identifiable, bright colors with a clear big name tag on your shirt:

Customer: "Excuse me, do you work here?"

    Customer: Apologizes and walks away.

That made me think back to when I was a dressmaker. I used to get a lot of work from plus-size ladies, presumably because it's difficult to buy ready-made clothes in these sizes. Every now and then I'd get one on the far side of size 28 who'd say breezily 'Measure me, dear? Oh no, that won't be necessary - I'm a size sixteen!' Challenging, to say the least My favourite though was a question I once got about an item when I was selling on eBay.'Re. the 72 inch (180cm) length of 1 inch (2.5cm) pink ribbon - what size is this please?'

        Which button is "11"?

The stupidest question I ever heard came while waiting for my wife to try on some clothes. A woman came out, did a twirl in front of her man and asked, "does this outfit make my butt look big?"

        His answer? "Compared to what?"

The chill in that store could have solved global warming...

Most questions are stupid. The asker usually even has to add a false statement to the front of their question to even be comfortable asking it.

The only thing that is more stupid than the average question is asking a question in a forum and then accepting the first random opinion based answer that comes along.

    Example:

Given that it is impossible to make money in Internet marketing, why should I spend money on my own domain?

That is an actual stupid question asked here just a few days ago although I can't find it in search probably because I reworded it.

The question was prepended with a false statement as most stupid questions are.

The people answering didn't bother to counter the false statement. They let it influence them. Most answers agreed that it was best to start out with using free blogs and squidoo pages based on the false premise given before the answer.

It's a common pattern. Ask a question so stupid that the answer would be obvious unless you first prepend it with a false statement. Then answer stupid questions with stupid answers based on believing the false statement that was prepended to the question.

    No, just stupid people

...kidding... although I tend to think that the more successful people try to find information for themselves before asking questions. That said, I have spent an inordinate amount of time "researching" when I could have asked a question and had the information more quickly. Many times the search is worth the effort but not 100% of the time.

We always joke about the "does this make my butt look big" - but I just heard the equivalent at work.

I work 2 days a week at a casino and we recently changed from uniforms that had a shirt and a full vest to a new style. Instead of a tucked in shirt covered by a fully lined vest - we now wear tucked in shirts and a simple dealer's apron around the waist. Much more comfortable and cooler.

One dealer weighs in at about 400 lbs (I kid you not) and she complained the new style makes her "look fat" because the vest "hid" her stomach. Like hiding a mack truck behind a utility pole?

There ARE stupid questions - but it's okay because there are enough stupid answers to go around.

      Yes, James.

I saw similar one a lot already here and on other forums, too. This thing maybe originates from laziness, carelessness or willfulness, IMHO. They want to make fast cash. These people_could know that their authenticity doesn't increase hereby though, but decreases.

And it isn't noticed how much they compromise themselves?

Or is it their policy? Maybe, they hope that they'll have some success because the beginners (who are not so attentive) will buy what they advertise?

      Take care,
