Why as people A-holes... Here is the story, I am walking to the shop to grab a couple of beers to have a drink with a couple of my mates tonight. So on the way to shop you got some teenagers out and randomly they just start shouting abuse at me. I wear glasses so they thought it would be fun to mock me for that, so I walk into the shops grab my drinks and go... I am thinking what a complete bunch of screw ups in life. So someone please, help me understand why some people are complete idiots.

Most of the time because they are too lame to have real stuff to do. So when they are trying to knock you down you just gotta think you yourself that it means you have more of a life than them.

I don't know but I'm often amazed at how strong my personal reaction is when I see people act like that - though it's not directed at me. It really bothers me.

Perhaps there are people so stupid and insensitive that they can only entertain themselves by such behavior. They also do it to impress their equally brain dead friends. That would be like trying to impress a cabbage"

Imagine their future in ten years.....not too bright, is it?

It goes back to our roots really.

We might have civilization, language, technology, etc.. but really were almost identical to the cave dwellers of 100 thousand + years ago.

We forget sometimes that those "urges" we all have (and NO-I dont mean sex-Well not just sex) are simply our instincts.

Most of human society is actually dictated based on these instincts, we just dont consciously realize how much of what we do is instinctive behavior.

Anyways the point is that while human society now numbers in the billions, we still break ourselves down intro tribes. Friends, familys, etc.. and each of those groups typically follows loosely the same organizational structure primitive man followed.

A tribe, with a chief; and others competing for dominance (or just a safe spot in the group).

Being mean to people exerts force over them, (your forcing your will or feelings onto someone else)

This makes them feel superior, and in most cases-especially with teenagers- establishes or reaffirms the aggressors place in the social hierarchy.

Long winded-Sorry! I've always been fascinated by the contrasts between modern civilization and primitive man; so I guess I had a number of observations to make on the subject.

My opinion is people behave that way because that is how they were or are treated at home. Abuse breeds insecurity, and insecurity breeds bullies. BTW, bullies are cowards underneath that have been crushed in some way. And so the cycle continues.

Yes, I would add to tribal behavior the general level of psychological
development of teenagers. Emotional immaturity, perhaps the group's
leader has security issues with the usual mechanism of tearing down
others to compensate. The mutual reinforcement enjoyed by the small
tribe when they do such things.

It can take some measure to completely ignore these things. But a degree
of understanding does make it easier to do. They are to be recognized
for what they are and understood for what they do.

It's better to not be them. Life, through their actions, will eventually
succeed in mirroring their ways. Pleasant times are not ahead for them
if they continue in this manner as they get older.

Perhaps feel gratitude that you are not like them, and maybe try to avoid
    wasting energy on it.

I just find it strange that people do it, I will never be like them, I have never been like them but its just like, dude, grow the hell up already. The worse thing is when they are in a group of about 10 =/ like they were, so confronting them isn't always the best solution. When they are confronted though like I have done on a few occasions, they are scared and think crap, I might be in some real stuff here.

I generally find you will only get heckled random abuse is if you are on your own and that to me is beyond cowardly. I dunno, its just frustrating and annoying. I used to defend the youth but this has happened more then once to me (all because I wear glasses, how sad is that...) and has happened to other people I know. I am genuinely worried for the future, we got a bunch of immature twats growing up, grades are on the way down, seriously, is anyone else worried.

No, not worried. It's slightly amusing only because I think probably
every generation says those things about subsequent generations.

        What do you think?

I am only 19 so technically I am their generation so I am a little worried. Then again, once they decide to grow up and actually realize if you say crap about people in the real world, you will eventually get screwed. I can only hope they say things to the wrong people and get a rude awakening to what the real world is like. I know a few people who would of just turned around and flipped out at them, lucky for me I control my self. But to go back to the original point, I am a little bit worried, time will tell I guess.

lol... I wondered about your age. Well, you're a mature person for your age, so
    that's entirely to your credit.

My advice - naw, no worries, mate!

They do it because they can.
They do it because 'society' says they are entitled to 'free expression'.
They do it because 'society' has failed to uphold the standards of discipline and self discipline.
They do it because their own lack of self respect denies them the ability to confer respect on others.
They do it because they are too stupid to know any better.

So you can come to WF and start a discussion about your experience with them which will ultimately lead to comments about the decline of western civilization.

This is how jerks and nobodys like those guys justify their existence.

Just take solace in the fact that you have more important things to do than shout obscenities at strangers.

    YOU WON!

Alot of people are just bored and have low self esteem so they try and victimize people they think might not react back. People can be so lame.

    Butters -

    You ask, "Why?"

    I say, "Who cares?"

Try this instead - it feels much better:

    Live by the 4 agreements:
    1. Be impeccable with your word.
    2. Don't take anything personally.
    3. Don't make assumptions.
    4. Always do your best.
Toltec philosophy as spoken by Don Miguel Ruiz

    Hope it helps.

There are so many idiots where I live, it's pathetic. People like that have no goals, no love at all in their lives. The thing is, how do we avoid them and live our lives in peace? The only solution I can come up with is to try to avoid places where they go. It doesn't always work, but it does most of the time. For example to avoid the losers when grocery shopping I go early in the morning. The later you go, the more freaks come out- at least where I live anyway.
