Do businesses hire according to a persons academic level first or people skills?

One year we had group of business owners come into our school to answer questions about what they expected from graduates. Many things were discussed but one topic was whether employers hired graduates according to their academic achievements or ability to work with others. What do you think it should be based on?

    It depends on the job. There are plenty of jobs out there that dont require great academic skills, but are more about people skills....for instance pretty much anything in the hospitality sector. Likewise there are jobs that book knowledge is far more than people skillls...such as most programmer/coder jobs in computers.

    Frankly, If ***I*** were hiring....

    1. REAL experience.
    2. Knowledge
    3. REAL Academic achievement.

    "people skills" doesn't really enter into the discussion unless talking about sales or other things dealing directly with customers and vendors. Besides, real experience should include EVERYTHING.

        Why is that? THE pimps(madams, or whatever you want to call them) and prostitutes, DO deal with the "er.." customers!

        Of course, this is ONE place where I probably wouldn't trust any higher college, etc... to train them, so #3 would be out SOMEWHAT, but some would probably prefer someone that wasn't an idiot, so having AT LEAST a highschool education would probably be preferred.

          You're not exactly known for your humor...Did you note the smiley face I used?

          The #1 rule of humor is, if you have to explain a joke, it won't work. But here goes, "experience" and "knowledge" as a prostitute, get it?

          Now if you want to get serious, there's no doubt people skills would be the most important factor for a legal prostitute, other than physical appearance...One may even contend that too much "experience" would be a bad thing.

        I can share my experience as I am fresh graduate.

        It all depends upon how sponteneous you are in the interview. How much knowledge you have about the subject. All though academic achievements do matter but if you couldn't perform well because of particular reason its definitely discounted. Basically employers judge the actual commercial value of the candidate. Can a candidate perform if given a chance, is the basic attitude of an employer.
