I'm still chuckling. Turned on the sfor a few minutes just to see if anything's going on in the world. Found it's exactly the same as yesterday and the day before...

1...terrorist(s)
2...weather is cold

Just as I was ready to turn it off CNN switched to the weather person with a map of the south and snow and cars sliding around.

He pointed to the large display and offered this sage advice:

"This white stuff is snow....but see the shiny reflection on this part of the road? That is ice - don't drive on the shiny stuff"

So what? Just get out of the car and walk away if you see shiny stuff? Yeah, that'll work. I wonder how many people went "I wondered what that shiny stuff was - thanks for explaining it."

Kay, in that business 90% of success is just showing up for work.

I never met anyone when I was in school that said "When I grow up I want to be a TV weather person."

Never heard "I want to work at the DMV", either...

On British tv, the forecasters always remind us to take our umbrellas when rain is forecast ...oh, and to "wrap up warm" when it's cold.

That is one of the great things about florida. Because of the violent and sometimes deadly weather here, we have probably the best meteorologists and equipment in the country. radar covers this state half way into the gulf and into the bottom of georgia and everytime there is a low pressure system off teh coast of africa we hear about it almost instantly. The rule of thumb here is if you havent been hearing about a storm for about a week, its probably not worth worrying about.

Kay - In Georgetown in Colorado there is a very steep dip in the highway - about 500 feet downhill then 500 feet uphill. During slick snow or ice you will see the tourists driving in the tracks from cars in front of them -- so they would slide and pile at the bottom. For some reason they never noticed that the locals were driving off the
edge of the road - of course, those mountains are scary to drive for some in good weather.

Anyhow.........one year there was a new cop up there from flat lands somewhere. We were having an icy road emergency - there were cars piled at the bottom of the hill,
they were trying to clear the road of them from the bottom exit, etc -- and this old Barney Fiffe decides to pull someone off on the side of the road.....and parks right on the lip. Some of us saw that going on from the top of the hill and it was just time to pull off and watch, LOL. Someone who had been driving the lip pulled off just behind him and he was trying to get them to get into traffic and move (which meant slide).
He was walking back to yell at the old man when the first car hit the cop car. The look on his face was priceless - then a couple more cars slid into him. That car was fried by the time they got it out of there - with the help of the old geez that had pulled into the snow behind him so he didn't have to get into traffic and hit the cop car himself. That cop never did live that one down -- and I didn't even see him around there too long. But I can just imagine the Chief just reaming him a new one for stopping and getting in people's way in an ice emergency. What a lark.

Years back we had a cool weather guy here in Edmonton. When it was going to get frigid outside he would always warn us to keep our brass monkeys indoors.
