Has anyone never had a drink of beer or wine in their life.

I am not sure how I have done this but I have. I guess I was taught strongly about the damages of it and took it to heart. I now don't believe there is anything wrong with it, but still I have this principle haunting me everyday. My doctors are trying to get me to drink some red wine daily, but I just can't seem to break through this issue. Is there anyone else out there like me or just pipe in and give your opinion on drinking itself?

Well red wine is good for the heart. Nothing wrong with drinking that occasionally and for medical purposes. But I do not go for beer or other liquors. Red wine is pretty much okay but of course, anything that is too much ain't good either!

So try grape juice - it's the grapes that have the anti-oxidants, not the alcohol - there are lots of foods and herbs that can give you whatever the grape juice doesn't - without alcohol.

I like this advice! I think that anything that needs to be taken in moderation is a bit sketchy. If one can't have as much of it as one would like, I'd rather just pass on it. If you look hard enough, there are surveys that will say just about anything is good for you in moderation: red wine, chocolate, aspirin, etc. Back in the day, I would have taken any and all of it, but not now.

I'd be more inclined to take my juicer and juice some grapes - seeds and all - and slam it back right away!

I can honestly and proudly say that NO, I HAVE NOT. I just haven't had that "click" Now I wanna get drunk or atleast try, I've seen people drunk off their buttholes and don't want to degrate myself that low.

I'm not against people who drink, of course many around me do, and I have absolutely no problem with it... I just have that good feeling inside that I'm not like that and always when I do get asked if I want to drink I whole heartedly say no and am actually glad haha that I don't even have to think about wheter or not I want to do it.

      That's funny.
I quit drinking because I couldn't stand being around drunks, then I realized when I drank I was one:confused:

I haven't had a drink in over 20 years. Nothing wrong with not drinking. You don't need to drink wine to get the health properties. I wouldn't start drinking, what if you have alcoholic tendencies just waiting to be born. That is a stupid idea your doctor has.

Isn't that getting a bit too specific.

I can imagine a doctor telling you that a glass of red wine daily is good for your health because there are studies to back that statement - cannot imagine any doctor advising a non-drinker to drink. I'd change doctors.

My first grade teacher asked us this question and almost everybody raised their hand.

By the time I was a senior in high school they didn't bother to ask anymore.

The "Mediterranean diet".. people that drink red
wine have less chance of heart disease. It is a
    proven fact with statistical evidence.

Nothing wrong with drinking in moderation in my
opinion. My life would be boring without the
    odd pint here and there.

It does wonders for your social life

I've drank a bottle of wine and ten beers in one sitting more than once and I know the damaging effects. Now though I rarely drink but a glass of wine per day as perscribed by the doctor IMO is better than taking the alternative prescription drugs you could end up being given. Wine or drugs? Which do you prefer?

I get drunk about twice a year, max. Even though it's fun at the time, I have never wanted to make a habit of it.

I do, however, enjoy red wine, and enjoyed it before I knew of the health benefits.

Never done any illegal drugs in my life.

I'm not much of a drinker but have tried alcohol. I do like wine though and as a avid gym junkie, I heard it's good for the heart. But dude, props to you, going without alcohol all your life.

I've only had two drinks since I turned 21. One was because someone basically spiked my drink and I shouldn't have drank it, but was a guest and didn't want to waste their stuff. The second time was another time and that was because I had already broken my streak and you got a free glass, so, you know, free glass.

Anyway, years ago, a relative I don't think I ever met, didn't drink and her doctor wanted her to drink a glass of red wine every day. She wouldn't do it until the doctor wrote a prescription for it. Then, she followed the doctor's orders. I guess, that way, it was medicine.

But, as others have mentioned, I think you can get the same benefits from grape juice. Maybe even chocolate. And neither one of those will kill brain cells.

Everytime I see someone who doesn't drink or has never drank I can not understand it. It just doesn't register with me. I'm not saying you have to go get smashed, but a few drinks is always a good time and good way to relax.

Good thing is about 90% of people drink so there is never a shortage of people to drink with when you want to unwind, especially in my city.

Red wine contains harm and benefit. The problem is that the harm outweighs the benefit. The benefit of red wine can be obtained in other than red wine..such as from dark grapes and red grape juice.

Red wine is also acidic and this acid can really destroy the enamel on your teeth.

You can get much better antioxidant protection from red fruits and green leafy vegetables without the harm.

I love red wine, but I don't drink it all the time. My parents were European, and good wine at home was just a natural part of our family life.

If you are uncomfortable about starting drinking, don't do it. You're the one that knows your own body better than any doctors do.

I don't drink anymore. Never really enjoyed it, but went along with it for the benefit of others. Then I thought to myself, why? I don't enjoy it, it's generally not good for me, so why do it? When I'm with others who wish to unwind with a drink, glass of wine, etc, I just have a glass of water, maybe even with a slice of lemon in it to make it fancy. Some of my friends really don't understand it, but once we're all sitting around and into a good conversation, I think they forget what I'm drinking anyways.
