When we have weeks of snow and the UK grinds to a halt, it's weather.

When we have a couple of extra hot days in the summer, it's climate change.

Simple!

Our weather man said it was 17 degrees warmer at the North Pole this year than it was during the last ice age.

Climate change is interpreted by many as only "global warming".

Some of the scientific articles I've read on the subject don't hold that view but say it is extremes of weather that show the climate change.

Last week we had brown pelicans falling from the sky and a few seagulls as wel; as a couple dolphins that washed up in the bay- all due to weather much colder than usual. Temperature in the teens this far south? Yuck.

This change is not limited to one country : the whole world is disturbed by it.

OK, WHY would birds fall from the sky? HECK, why would dolphins beach themselves?

BTW water won't even get into the teens. Ironic, but true.

Your weatherman must be pretty darn old to have been around at the last ice age.

You have to wonder how they could know how cold it was back then, even down to the degree. They can't even test oxygen absorption in the ice because that was almost certainly different back then. Besides, they actually agitate ice to remove bubbles to make "clear ice" for some parties and ice sculptures. They can't test the temperature. Insects, etc... EVEN if apparently the same, may have been different. So how did they figure that out? Can they EVEN determine what the temperature was yesterday, or last week, or last month(OBVIOUSLY I mean with NO records or history or memory of the event). Can they even truthfully figure out it rained a month ago? And if they CAN do that, why do they have the weather ballons, monitoring stations, etc....?

Interesting to note that people from the northern hemisphere are suffering cold temperatures, whereas we in the southern are suffering from record highs.

I'm in BC (Okanagan) and it's not cold at all, in fact there is NO snow anywhere to be found, which is extremely unusual for this time of year. Last time I was here in the winter there was piles of it.

Apparently people are worried about the Winter Olympics in Vancouver because it keeps raining and the temperature isn't low enough to keep the snow from melting.

Also I'm more inclined the trust the scientific community over a bunch of tin foil hat conspiracy theorists.

Actually, here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, we've been 2-10 degrees above normal for the past 2-3 weeks, and looks to continue for at least another week. Not record breaking, but above normal.

It cracks me up how some look at their window, then claim it as "proof" concerning global warming, one way or the other, without considering the ENTIRE GLOBE.

EXACTLY why I was saying that looking at one spot won't tell you about things as a whole.

And CO2 is a relatively minor one of MANY variables in the whole thing.

Still, I think keeping more vegetation up, planting more vegetation, and getting even just India and China to fall in line would go a LONG way towards fixing the O2,O3, CO, CO2 and some other things properly balanced. And the beauty of that plan means LESS paperwork, NO new taxes, maybe cheaper power, and things will just be BETTER. The ONLY problem is to get india and China to take action. But HEY, they fancy themselves as politicians, and that is what politicians are SUPPOSED to do, get workable agreements and delegate.

Still, california was not always as it is, new york was not always as it is. Change happens! HECK, Hawaii was CREATED by volcanos, and they have PARKS where much is fenced off, and they keep changing because, even NOW, the volcanos are changing the landscape. CITIES get destroyed! Weather changes might be a slight change in orbit, change in the sun, local things like clouds and humidity, or any one of MANY things besides CO2. AND, if the CO2 fell TOO low, this planet would die. If O2 went up, O3 might increase, and CO2s effect would drop. And why don't you hear about CO? It is more dangerous than CO2, and I don't believe it is good for ANYTHING!

A friend's story about climate change cracked me up the other day. Her four year old son has it figured out.

He says it gets really hot some places and that pushes the cold to other places and that's why you have the weather channel and it is going to make big trouble.

Honestly, that's as good an explanation as some I've seen!

For all you "climate change" folks, answer me this one question and I'll jump on the bandwagon.

How did man manage to melt the "Ice Age"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there were no cars, factories or even man back then, was there?

During that Ice Age a lot of humanoids died out.

In order to repopulate, they had to do a lot of "rubbing bits of one gender against the other gender" in the manner we all know and love.

The heat that this "rubbing" generated was enough to melt the ice away.

(Please note you can pass this post on to the Nobel people to be considered for this year's science prize).

For those who fear climate change, just think about all the "rubbing" we're going to have to do once it's all over.

Something for us all to look forward to.

WOW! By today's standards, that is OBVIOUSLY Nobel Material. Sadly, I don't fall into the list of people that can nominate you. I wish I could tell you who your best choices for nominator might be BUT, sadly, that might be political. There was recently one VERY well know addition to that group though. Hopefully that is enough of a hint.

      Hi Scot,

So your reasoning is only one thing can cause something to change? Therefore if I put out a match by blowing on it, it can't be put out by dipping it in water?

It really is faulty logic to conclude that because all previous climate changes were natural, that this latest one can't be man-made. It's even possible that it is both (or netiher).

But even if climate change isn't man-made, I still think we should have a contingency plan. I promise you Russia does.
