An exercise for us old folks

I grabbed this from the Road Star forum I visit.
I figured there are plenty of us old folks here who could really benefit from it.
I've been doing it for a while and it really works
The article suggested doing it three days a week.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb. potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, then relax.

Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb. potato sacks.

Then try 50-lb. potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb. potato sack in each hand and hold your arm straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

      I know
When I first read it and got to the part where he said he was lifting the 100 lb. bag I was ready to blast him.
Then I read the 'put a potato in each bag' and I spit my lunch out laughing.

Well, holding 100 pounds out the way I imagine he is talking about is quite a feat for anyone. But STILL, some achieve levels that are hard to believe. when I got to the "add a potato", I realized it could mean one of two things....

    1. 100Pounds+1 potato more.
    2. Maybe a couple pounds for the sack and the potato being perhaps most of the weight.

BTW I imagine most kids and old people could do THAT! But going from 5 to 10 is kind of pushing it, and from 10-50 is WAY too fast. And 50-100? I WISH!

Either way, nice advice. Word to the wise for old people. 50+ pounds is really kind of pushing it. Save the energy for other things.

    Hi Warriors,
First I want to thank ThomM for the laugh. That was a great bread from "nose to the grindstone" IM all day. He got me thinking and I started a nice post for you guys. I got distracted by doing research and it went into cyberspace. So I started again to include a nice post. It won't be as good as the first, because I got distracted and called my 95 year old friend. I am going to tell her about the same thing which I am adding her: centerpoint It is about holosync and has some great research about ant-aging. Dr Mercola and Dr Weil, two of my favorite Drs have similiar products as centerpoint, but perhaps less expensive. "Sound Healing" it is great for the brain, not just music, but engineered sound. As internet workers our brain is our most valued asset. You wouldnt let your car get low on oil. Feed your brains, warriors, we have work to do -- changing the world and all.

    Damn it all anyways!

I went out and bought 2 - 50 lb bags of spuds, I'm in decent shape and thought I'd cut time a bit.

Then I went back to reread the routine to make sure I was doing it right and saw the last line.

I was so depressed I made french fries for a week and put on 15 lbs before I even started lifting the bags. I am up to 15 seconds already though

I wasn't going to read this because something for 'us old folks' surely doesn't include me...

I'm so glad that I dd though - was off to buy some spuds until I read the punch line - lol.

Laughing is a great way to boost the spirits.

    Thanks
