Have you seen the video footage of the Hati Earthquake?
Hati Earthquake Video

It was captured in Port-au-Prince Hati. Some people got out of their cars and ran... I don't know if that was the smartest thing to do or what...???

  • My computer plays those slow so I can't tell how fast that happened, but if you feel the ground shake and then see a building collapsing, your first instinct may be to run. I'm sure a few people at first would have thought a bomb went off before realizing that an earthquake was going on if it happened fast enough. Get the hell out of here and hide instincts can take over pretty fast. In a shaker like that (that 7 mag was only 10km deep) I'd want open ground. Period.

    • Adrenaline kicks in quickly - fight or flight. And you can't fight an earthquake.

I've seen the video on TV where the camera was rolling when the earthquake - amazing the person was able to keep the film going.

I've always thought earthquakes were the most frightening natural disaster. No warning and no place safe to run to.
  • That's what was striking me Kay - 7 mag, 10 km depth -- and people were on their feet at all. Of course, I think that the worst was over when they ran, but I would have expected those cars to see the cars and people tossed more than that if it was shaking a building down.

But then - in slow motion I thought someone was driving the one car, it probably was shaking into the road like that.
  • UPDATE: I had to change the video because CBS took the original video down. I put up a new video captured inside a building during the earthquake. This dog senses the Earthquake before anyone else and takes off running down the hallway:

  • I dont know. I've never been in an earth quake, but I think i'd rather be out of the car than in
  • wow that is a crazy video.. glad it did not happen in my city.
  • Here's one of the most frightening videos I've seen. It's not graphic at all, but completely terrorizing...
