Forum Ghosts - Are they Real ?

Based on my own findings over time you learn little secrets, but you then find you start writing a reply to a post but then delete the reply never posting it.

As time goes by it seems the less you post in reply as in any ways by responding to the post you let out little secrets, so in many ways you refrain.

Sure it's fine to help, but i am now guessing there are many forum ghosts who sit back and quietly read these pages, who see people posting information that you know is wrong or can be improved upon but they let it go preferring to stay hidden in the shadows.

And it would be in those dark corners where these shadows hide that there would be some immense talent.

It would be hard to know if these thoughts are real or if forum ghosts exist in many ways because to exist they must also remain out of sight.

just late night thoughts rambling.

I start posting a lot and then don't end up actually hitting reply. For me, I stop because I feel my reply isn't going to be worth a lot compared to the expert knowledge around here. That's probably the wrong approach but personally that seems to be my problem.

From my own experience on wf i'd sincerely like to think that no one would sit by and allow inaccurate information to go unchallenged. This place is so full of support I would be truly surprised.

But if you believe in forum ghosts then I guess it's true for you.

I know there are hundreds of 'lurkers' - I can see that in my forum where the views are thousands more than the posts.

I also experienced it years ago when we were discussing a new program. I started getting PM'd to death with people I never knew existed, who were 'too shy' to post and had questions about the thread. It was like a full time unpaid job keeping up with them. (but then a lot of them joined the program under me so that was a surprise).

I wouldn't call these ghosts. Now if you want to talk about ghosts, how about your PC moving from one sub-forum to another by itself - to threads you have never even seen before.

I have run all the security known to man and changed passwords etc. I have nothing on my PC and no one is logging in to my forum account from any IP address other than mine. It is a strange feeling when it happens (a lot) - 'we are not alone' - LOL.

As for people correcting people - there are some who seem to do nothing else but that - pronouncing judgment as they go. Fine to disagree of course, but to 'call someone out' specifically saying their opinion is invalid is a little much. I always swear I am going to stop coming here to the OT because of them - but can't stay away long.

As for actually incorrect information, I believe most would be proactive until they are attacked or get into a back and forth confrontation as a result.
