I have been an Apple fanboy since long time but see the iPad as a big disappointment. It is not what a normal Apple geek would expect after such huge hype about it for a long time.

There is no flash support
No multitasking
No camera
Based on the iphone OS, not mac OS

    NO flash support? Do you mean no SDHC? That is HARD to believe. THAT would be a mark against it.

    No camera? WHO CARES!?!?!? A camera increases the cost/complexity.

    What is wrong with the apple iphone OS?

    If they made the network general and generic, and added SDHC, it would be a WINNER!!!!!!

      Eh, if that would have been a reason, i would not have been here. Rather would have gone to a gadget forum and spammed.
      My intention is not to get traffic to my site but to discuss about the iPad and whether they agree its a fail or its going to rock ahead.

      NO, I saw the eeepc and I thought WOW, ALL they have to do is make the disk SSD(YEAH, I know they offer it to a degree, but it is TOO expensive for todays market), and have the ability to have a tablet, which they have ALSO already done, and WOW! A TRULY portable computer that can do ANYTHING! GRANTED, it is big for a phone but otherwise?

      Anyway, it looks like ASUS and MCI are BOTH going to try to kill the ipad! It should be NEAT!

      The idea of having your WHOLE library on one tiny unit you can take with you, PREFERABLY with markup capability(That MOST LACK!), is VERY enticing! The current sweetspot appears to hover somewhere around $200 though. I succumbed and bought one of the cheapest for about $150. It was cheap, and had all the basic functionality I wanted.

      I may EVEN get the nook, just so I can browse the bookstore while having lunch!

    Dont think its Apple's best invention but I could see myself using it.. Very conveniant to have around the house just for entertainment.

    But having said that.. I might have to try one first and see how it looks and feels

    For all those that think ipad is STUPID, how many of you thought the kindle was good?!?!?

    If you thought kindle was good, but this isn't, you are kind of calling yourself a hypocrite! I think the ipad cost about as much as kindle did, and has many things kindle lacks. They ALSO want to add the other things kindle has that they don't.

    Of course, *I* thought the kindle was a JOKE when it came out. They are only NOW starting to address some of MY concerns. MAYBE, in a couple years, it will be what I wanted in the beginning. The ipad and new kindle, together with SDHC might just get me to pay about $300, or 50% more than I would otherwise!

    It's a larger version of the itouch. Except you can't take it around with you anywhere. Functionality wise < laptop, way less.

    If you beleive it is going to be a big fail then im sorry to dissapoint you from my keyword research on you tube there have been videos from a week ago on the ipad which in the space of 2 whole days shows there people looking like fanitics, so the demand is really high being apple of course,

    i just finished a video in windows movie maker and trying on a keyword which in two days have competition of 12 million people looking about,

    so i have to research using market samuri and google new broad and exact keyword,

    the demand is quite high imagine how mass control by frank kern was when it took off,

    i think the ipad is going to be sucessfull and some cpa networks are offering as we speak if you do cpa networking some high payouts on the ipad for gift card submits, copec and neverblue being the main,

    so it dont have a cam, its like the kindle, with more apple softwere, any apple nut will want it...i should now i hate windows with a passion and love apple now, only machine in 6 months that i never had any problems with updates or that windows rubbish,

    my 2 cents on it anyway

      Only because you wont find it useful doesn't mean it isnt good...

      Just off the top of my head, here are some possible places which would love this concept.

      - Schools / Colleges / Universities
      - Business
      - Travel, its much easier to lug this about then a laptop or a portable dvd player.

      You are all quick to put this product down because it is of no use to you, it doesn't mean that it is crap. People will create apps for this thing and some of them will be seriously amazing and will help the Ipad out a lot. For me it has no use but I am not ruling it out as a crap product, especially when it has so much potential.

      There is only 2-3 good points in that article you linked to...

      No camera - Who wants to hold up a 10inch screen to take a picture...
      Not good for india - How many indian people will actually buy this anyway.
      Not good for the US - They are going with a reliable service which doesn't require a contract... How does this damage you.
      Ibook - So it isn't advance right now but give it 6 months it will wipe the floor with the kindle etc...
      No usbs - A separate company can create one connector and brings business to other people.

      My thoughts anyway.

    It is successful from a sales point of view. But it misses the mark with no flash support and multitasking issues.

    Android tablets give you a lot more. I got one for around $250 with flash, hDMI out (HD) SDHC and lots more stuff. Android is where its at.

    I recently had to use my ipad full time and realised that it can't be a replacement laptop/netbook for many im'ers as without flash I found it wasn't compatible with some domain registrars, hosting companies (try getting in cpanel with hostgator), some of autoresponder features don't work, wso pro isn't compatible plus skype has a default country code so to call other countries you have to go through the hassle of adding a contact and importing them into skype.
    So great for casual browsing or email use but never again as my main machine.

      You can do just about anything with an iPad if you jailbreak it. Including use flash. Also there are apps out there that let you control your main pc over the internet. However that being said I would still opt for droid.

    The iPad is absolutely NOT a fail. Not by sales, not by market adoption and not by technology. In our office we have an iPad 2, a Playbook and an Android. Neither of the other to come CLOSE to the ease of use and enjoyability of using the iPad 2.

    I always said steve jobs was just lucky and arrogant! BUT:

    Physical keyboard? STUPID! It is limiting and tablets don't have them!

    Widescreen? STUPID! LIMITING!

    Webcam? OK, MAYBE! Still, people would ALWAYS complain.

    Lack of Card reader and ports are one reason I didn't buy it.

    Removable battery? How many tablets have that anyway? Frankly, I think almost everyone in the ENTIRE laptop/tablet industry is an idiot for this! As far as I am concerned, the lack of a *****STANDARD****** removable battery is the lack of a battery. A lot of times, proprietary batteries cease to be available ANYWAY!

    Flash support is a GLARING omission.

    Apple was BUILT on an open platform. That is one of the mistakes that Jobs can take ALL the credit for. BAD!

    ipad can't multitask? That is REALLY bad now!

    Storage is really misleading. Trying to fit 160GB of memory into that platform would be VERY expensive. You're not going to find small tablets with 160GB of solid storage.

    Touchscreen is a GIVEN for tablets, so it isn't really a salable feature in the industry.

    The comparison of cost HERE isn't valid. The ipad is smaller, and has a touchpad.

    If steve jobs really said that here, it was a DUMB thing to say. They are two different markets. The netbook merely STARTS to encroach on the tablet market, just as the tablet STARTS to encroach on the PC market. The netbook and ipad are BETTER than one another in different ways. I HAVE a netbook, but AM looking for a tablet ALSO.

    If I designed it, I would have had a front pointing camera for skype, micro sandisk, or maybe mini, and at least one mini usb. I might also have a tiny LCD on the backside incase you DID want to take pictures, etc... It would have linux with a system emulator for java based, and possibly API based apps. ALSO, the USB could provide power to 2 or 3 standard camera batteries. That may be enough to power it for several hours. I imagine they each have more power than the battery for the blackberry 8830. And you can buy the watch batteries practically anywhere. ALSO, you could slide like 4 into the top of the device and use practically no space, so you could keep the form factor. You could put the bulk of the electronics on the bottom so the weight would be somewhat balanced. The lan and video out would be through USB. Both are generally not needed and not used and a standard connection could not be provided really on such a small tablet. ALSO, at this time, and that price, they SHOULD be able to have like 32GB on it. I would ALSO put a mike and a little speaker on it, and have a connection for stereo speakers or earbuds, as well as stereo mikes.
