Picking an LCD Monitor

Hey gang. I've decided to get me a wide screen monitor and have pretty much settled on 23" The specific one I'm looking at is here: Buy the Philips 230E1HSB 23" LCD Widescreen Monitor at TigerDirect.ca

I don't play games on my PC with one exception: EVE Online - Home however I am wondering if the contrast is good and whether or not the contrast ration of 1000:1 is good (though in the sales copy they say 12000:1 which I'm assuming must be a typo). I'd love some feedback on this as I want to do this once.

I currently have an LG 4:3 19" monitor that is 5 years old. This Phillips looks good and the price is excellent.

one of the biggest things you want to look for in an lcd monitor if you do any kind of gaming is the refresh rate. This dictates how fast the screen redraws images and if its really slow you can get 'ghosting' in games. This has a 5ms refresh which is excellent for a display that big.

The contrast ratio is probably not a typo, philips makes good displays in my opinion
