2 Feet of Snow and They're Fighting Over Bottled Water

I live WAY out in the country where the air is pristine, and the snow that falls is cleaner than any bottled water you could ever buy.

As everyone got prepared for the blizzard one of the first things to fly off the shelf was the expensive, relatively speaking, bottled water.

Unreal.

Two feet of snow and some folks can't figure out how to go outside and scoop up all the water they could possibly use.

Unbelievable!

So they whine about the $3.00 plus gallon of gas they burn to buy the $12.00 to $15.00 per gallon of water?

Actually just supposition, never bought bottled water....just taking prices of $1.00 or so per bottle off store shelf.
Bottle about 10 or 12 oz...adds up quick.

I lived off spring water most of my life, and had people come to our town to pack it off in five gallon jugs (free)

ADDITION: Got curious so looked up water at Costco. They have H202GO Bottled Spring Water 8 oz bottles 24 ct for $12.28.

24 x 8= about one and 1/2 gallons. So price at Costco for bottles h2o is about $8.00/gallon, WOW!!

Okay, yeah, everything is more when you buy individual sizes. You can get a gallon for a $1 or less, though. If there was a spring nearby, I'd go get it myself but there isn't.

Don't forget KJ, most Virginians don't know how to do anything when they get more than 2 inches of snow.

Yes sir we did. Most of my family lives near DC and they say the got between 30 and 36 inches.
Today is my birthday so we went ahead and dared the weather and went out for breakfast. By the time we were done the roads had become almost unpassable.
We didn't get that much overnightbut it started early in the morning and by the time it was getting dark we had gotten our fair share.

      Happy Birthday Kim!

If I had control of the weather, I would never let one single flake of snow fall on your day!

But alas, I couldn't, so, have you ever made homemade ice cream from fresh snow? Nummy!

Now you just need someone to give you a cake!

What happened with the TAP water? I mean even at 5F(about -15C), I haven't had a problem with tap water.

The ways of the old days are gone for many people. Complacency has set in and everything is on a shelf and can be bought. The most simple things such as getting snow in a bucket and letting it thaw for a cold drink does not even cross ones mind.

People should try this once in a while to see how many days they can go without the things like electric, running water, TV, try taking sponge baths, getting water from snow or the rain barrel, cooking over a fire.

It is an eye opener for many.

I lived like this every summer when I was growing up.No electricity, cooking on a wood burning stove, getting water out of a pump in the backyard, using an outhouse, and definitely no tv. It was good for the soul.

I thought you were 56, that sounds like 156

I live in a high rise in a city of a million people, I doubt if it's even possible to live without the amenities here.

I bought a 24 pk of spring water (.5L bottles) for $4 about three hours ago.

Tap water where I am is not good - we're under a boil water notice at the moment - happens often. For the privilege of having water I won't drink - I pay about $90 a month.

Roughing it is not nearly as much fun when it is below freezing out - unless you have a very good fireplace.

Ha! This happened every summer because my parents sent me to stay with my grandparents to live during the summer. The had a farm in Missouri.

It was my older brother and myself, and in addition to what was already mentioned above, we also had to feed the chickens and on occassion help prepare the chicken for becoming our dinner, if you know what I mean.

          Actually, I do Kim!

That's where the phrase "running around like a chicken with it's head cut off" came from when one is panicing, and frantic!

OK OK I don't know squat about bottled water! I have been lucky enough to live for over thirty years where the water was exceptional and just cannot understand anybody paying anything for water.

Best two winters I ever spent was as caretaker for ranch that was about a 10 mile ski to the closest clear road. Propane lights, propane reefer, pitcher pump out of creek (when it did not freeze) for water and wood cook stove for heat/cooking.

Roads impassable from about Thanksgiving to mid-April (sometimes May). Lots and lots of snow, although tough for x-country skiing with fresh two or three feet. Myself and two dogs. Fantastic winters! Love snow!

meanwhile, I live in Niagara region, Ontario, Canada, and except for one blizzard in January, we've barely had any snow here. It has been cold, though, but not too bad.

              The weather is sure strange...

My gas company once did something that played havok with things, so I couldn't find what was owed, or pay, and they turned off my gas IN WINTER! NO HEAT, NO hot water! They REFUSED to work on the weekend, or turn the gas on without coming inside my home, so I was without gas for MONTHS! I ended up having to take sponge baths with water heated on my ELECTRIC stove(I HATE bathing in near ice cold water). LUCKILY, I like the cold and it was only maybe 34f inside the home. Outside, it got to be as cold as 17 below.

BTW it is ASTOUNDING! They were SO inept that, if I had a choice, I would have gone elsewhere. They ALSO lots HUNDREDS of dollars of lost and reduced business.
