And this classic:

    Hey Sarge,

If Marciano fought today, he probably would have been 46-3. Some of those fights would have been stopped in today's atmosphere, but (the REAL) Rocky just wouldn't quit and seemed to get stronger the more he got hit. I remember a couple where Rocky was cut really badly and had been beat up pretty good, only to knock the other guy out late in the fight.

When I was very young in the 60s I had an early bedtime, except on the weekends when I could stay up as late as I wanted. Every Friday night I'd stay up and watch Friday Night Fights, then The Greatest Fights Of The Century. I've had an interest in old boxing matches since I was 5 years old. I can't explain it, I've just always been fascinated by it.

I didn't pick the Foreman/Lyle fight for it's importance historically, just that it was full of action and both guys got rocked and knocked down, to get back up and knock the other guy down. Historically you go with Louis-Schmelling 2 then maybe Ali-Frazier I.

There was a time when there was a search for the "great white hope"...Now, we just looking for ANY American heavyweight that can compete. There just aren't any...Times have really changed.

I'm a softcore fan. I really enjoy the sport, one of my favourites.

Hey Kurt... I remember Friday night fights and greatest fights of the century. I'm really
not a boxing fan. But back then I was really fascinated with them. Not sure why, but as
I got older I lost interest.

I used to love boxing, but the proliferation of the alphabet soup boxing bodies has made it a bit of a joke. Soon everybody who fights will be a current or former world champion - this seems to be the case in kick boxing (which I hate as men do not kick) as every kick boxer I have ever come into contact with is a former or current world champion.

However, I must agree about Hagler/Hearns; a great fight by great boxers.

I use to love boxing and use to go and watch a lot of armature boxing as one of my friends was a fighter.

Unfortunately one of his challengers died a few weeks later from a brain hemorrhage and my friend was the last one to fight him.

He gave up boxing and I gave up watching as the excitement wasn't there any more.
