I work in a call center part time. Like every other business..this call center is on 'hard times'. Normally its about 15k square feet and can hold probably up to 800 or so people. There is a whole section that they dont use anymore because they worked out a deal with the building owner so they don't pay rent on it.

As I was walking through the building one day and looking at that spot..something occured to me.

There are probably 200+ desks sitting there idle. They have phone, computer with internet connection and of course desk/chair. A basic call center desk.

My thought was...why couldnt a guy fill those seats with 'customer service' for marketers? for instance every desk is 1 guy that does cust service for say..10 websites, that way you have 10 sites paying the salary of 1 guy. Lets say this guy (or girl) is paid 10/hr and all they do is field questions about this site, answer emails..etc. Each site is paying $40 a week or $120 a month for live support for their site. Eachperson would of course need to be trained on the site/content and have some kind of admin function or atleast a login in case there is some kind of account issues that need to be tweaked.

of course those numbers can be tweakes...each person can handle more than 10 sites because there are some sites that probably will hardly get any calls, but some will get hammered and of course the site will need to get paid too.

the idea is just jelling right now...but what are some opinions on this? could it be done relatively easy? would marketers like us pay for live support?

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe do some online research to see how much people are charging for this. If you can get some people in your area some jobs, then more power to ya.

A temp. service or maybe even college students looking to make some extra cash and you could fill those seats as needed.

One SMALL bit of advice. Charge TWO fees! ONE will be a high price to cover basic costs, and should have like so many minutes of service. The OTHER should be one for each minute over(probably like a charge for every 10 minute unit). You NEVER know, some sites may not get ANY calls, but one little mention on one program, and you may get LOTS of calls.

But YEAH, it IS a good idea. Keep in mind that SOMEBODY will have to pay for the rent for that area, the phone, etc...
